Bills Today: Buffalo's newest safety eager to play with Hyde and Poyer

content_img

The Bills wasted no time adding depth at the safety position, as they signed Rafael Bush on the first day of the 2018 free agency period. He joins one of the best safe Vardy.Vardy appeared to collect a hamstring injury during their 4-1 rout of West Ham.But Rodgers said, “It is not his hamstring which is good. Hopefully over the next couple of days it will ease off and he will be fit.”Jamie is a real talisman for tty duos in the NFL from a season ago.

Bush mentioned that he’s antsy to play with Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. In 2017, that tandem combined for 10 interceptions, more than any pair of safeties in the league.

“Well, I’m just looking forward to working with those two guys. As a tandem last year, I think they had maybe, what, 10 interceptions?” said Bush. “As a unit last year, the secondary was pretty good. I’m just here to kind of just bring my skill set to the team and help in whatever way I can.”

Bush has made plays in a variety of ways at safety throughout his seven-year career. In 76 career games (18 starts), he’s tallied 190 tackles, 13 passes defended, three interceptions, three fumble recoveries, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one defensive touchdown.

As a fellow safety, it’s come natural for Bush tracking the success of Hyde and Poyer.

“I think just being a safety, you look at other safeties around the league, so that’s kind of natural for guys, myself included,” he said. “Watching those guys play together, I’ve been watching Micah Hyde in Green Bay for some years, and I always thought he was a great player.

“Poyer was one of those guys that was a special teams player at first. I kind of can relate to that, being that myself, and then kind of getting the opportunity to play and making the most of his opportunities. I respect that, so like I said, I’m excited to work with those guys and can’t wait to get to work.”

The Bills undoubtedly inherited a winner with their latest quarterback signing. Former Alabama Crimson Tide signal-caller, AJ McCarron, has three BCS National Championship rings to his name.

So, what does the newest Bills QB do with those championship rings?

“Mine, I give them to my family. My uncle has one, my dad has one and my grandpa has one,” said McCarron. “I don’t ever wear one. I play just because I love playing the game. I let them enjoy all that.”

In McCarron’s four seasons at Alabama, he posted some absurd numbers. In 53 games, he threw for 9,019 yards, 77 touchdowns, and only 15 interceptions.

McCarron got his first national championship ring in 2009 when he was redshirting as a true freshman and the Crimson Tide went 14-0. The quarterback had a much more significant role in earning his last two championship rings. He was named the Offensive Player of the Game in ‘Bama’s 2011 national title-winning performance in a 21-0 win over LSU.

He then followed that up with another national title the following season as Alabama routed Notre Dame 42-14 for the 2012 national championship.

Tate joined on Thursday to discuss his free agency process.

“I’m in Cincinnati right now,” he said. “Right now, I’m working out and I’ve got a couple of teams interested, but nothing is official yet. I’m just working out and hanging with my wife and my kids.”

Tate, a nine-year veteran in the NFL, has played with three different teams in his career. His first two years (2009-2010) were with the New England Patriots. After his time with the Pats, he went on to play five seasons (2011-2015) for the Cincinnati Bengals. After his five-year stint in Cincy, Tate came to Buffalo where he’s spent the past two seasons (2016-2017).

With free agency a few days old, Tate was asked if he’s heard from the Bills.

“No, I haven’t heard from the Bills yet, but it’s still early,” he said. “Anything can change from hour to hour so I’m patiently waiting.”

In his two seasons with the Bills, Tate mainly served as a return man. He returned 46 punts in Buffalo, averaging 10.7 yards per return. As a kick returner, he took back 57 kicks and averaged 21.2 yards per return.

It’s uncertain whd he misses Cristiano Ronaldo.Ronaldo left Real Madrid 18 months ago for Juventus and Messi has admitted in the past he appreciated the presence of the Portuguese in the LaLiga. Messi felt Ronaldo forced him to continually improve as a player. And yesether Tate will return to Buffalo or not. One thing’s for certain, he enjoyed the past two years here.

“I felt like it went pretty good. We went to the playoffs, which was good for the organization,” he said. “I have no complaints about Buffalo. I love it up there.”

Jose Mourinho admits ‘media manhunt’ is getting him down

Mourinho, who  has until 6pm on Wednesday to respond to the charge, would have been free to sit in the dugout regardless at Stamford Bridge, where he has vowed not to “celebrate like crazy” if United score or win ght.Barcelona star Leo Messi won a sixth Ballon d’Or title at the Paris ceremony. But Onana told TMW: “Leo is the best in the world but I think Mané deserved the award too. “He and (Mohamed) Salah did very well last year and this must be recognised eout of respect to his former club’s fans.

Mourinho is also concected to blood James into his starting XI once the full-back has been brought up to full fitness.Chelsea shared a video of 19-year-old James dropping his crutches to the floor, captioning it “drop those”.The player himself then shared a photo of him trned that the persistent talk about his future is undermining the team and suggested the dismal first-half showing against Newcastle, when United trailed 2-0 after 10 minutes before recovering to win, was partly down to players waking up to reports that the manager was about to be sacked.

“Some of the players looked depressed in the first half with the result, and with the pre-match, because the pre-match was difficult for them,” Mourinho said. “We didn’t sleep in the hotel, everyone stayed at his own house, and I think the players when they woke up – because they read on social media – the pre-match was not easy for them.”

Nonetheless, Mourinho has been no stranger to criticising his own team and again appeared to damn his players with faint praise when asked why they have been unable to replicate the second-half performance against Newcastle over 90 minutes. “We try,” he said. “The key is for the players to be able to do it.”

Mourinho believes United could be facing the champions in waiting at Stamford Bridge this lunchtime if Eden Hazard can maintain his blistering form. Hazard said this week that he would like to play for Mourinho again but, as much as the Portuguese would love to have him at Old Trafford, he said Chelsea would never sell to them.

“I would love to have him in Manchester United but … Chelsea is led by intelligent and experienced people and they would neicated Manchester City are already thinking about next season.City look unlikely to catch Liverpool in the Premier League this season, with Jurgen Klopp’s side having a 14 point lead and game in hand.”No. It’s unrealistic to think about that,” Guardiver sell Eden to Man United,” he said.

“History says that when Eden Hazard is the best player of the Premier League, Chelsea is the champion. It happened with me [in 2014-15] and Antonio [Conte, in 2016-17], and this season he is the best player until now and Chelsea is top of the league because he is the kind who can make a huge difference.”

Bills Today: Benjamin's beautiful TD overturned by controversial call

content_img

Sunday’s touchdown that was stripped from Kelvin Benjamin was the latest controversial catch to be overturned. This is happening all around the NFL, and Buffalo was the latest victim against New England.

Bills quarterback, Tyrod Taylor, threw a four-yard pass to wide receiver, Kelvin Benjamin, that was initially ruled a touchdown on the field. After a lengthy replay, the call was reversed and ruled incomplete.

“When the receiver got confirmed control of the football, he was not able to get both feet down in bounds,” referee Craig Wrolstad said. “So, his back foot was already off the ground and it stepped out of bounds. His firm control did not occur until after he had one foot off the ground.”

The displeasure with the call being overturned was heard throughout the league. FOX Sports NFL and college football rules analyst, Dean Blandino, posted a explaining the controversial play. Blandino served as the league’s VP of officiating from 2013-2016. He was adamant that Benjamin’s TD should have stood.

Blandino’s opinion seemed to be the common consensus throughout the league. Bills head coach, Sean McDermott, wasn’t a fan of the call either.

“I’m at a loss. I’m at a loss really. I saw it as a touchdown,” said McDermott. “Other than that I’m at a loss for how a play like that can get overturned.”

The two-minute offense Buffalo ran to set up that play was exceptional. They marched over 70 yards in under two minutes to get the ball on New England’s four-yard line with six seconds left in the first half.

“I thought it was great in terms of management of the clock and being able to execute at a high level with six seconds left,” said McDermott. “A great throw and what appeared to be a great catch.”

After Benjamin’s TD was ruled incomplete after replay, only two seconds remained in the half. Kicker, Stephen Hauschka, ended up nailing a 23-yard field goal. Though, players on Buffalo’s offense weren’t happy to have six points taken away.

“It’s just crazy, man. You put so much into it and you get robbed like that,” running back LeSean McCoy said. “Come on, that’s a touchdown.”

If upheld, it would’ve marked Benjamin’s second TD since joining the Bills. The receiver let his teammates do the talking, as he handled the situation as good as possible.

“The referee made the call and you have to live with that,” said Benjamin. “We just had to move on and come out in the second half and try to put up some points on the board. You can only control what you can control. You have to keep playing and move on from there.”

According to ESPN NFL Matchup, Buffalo is sixth in the league with the most pass attempts 20-plus yards downfield.

Quarterback, Tyrod Taylor, was flinging the football around against the Patriots in Week 16. Some of his big gains included: 46, 39, 35, and 33-yard pass plays.

“I thought we had some good drives the first three quarters of the game,” said head coach Sean McDermott. “Particularly right before tTaylor is convinced by the potential of Dwight McNeil. The winger is being tipped for senior England honours.”I’ve said numerous times, I’m his biggest fan,” Taylor told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph“I love playing with him, I know when I give hihe half.”

One of the players responsible for reeling in the big receptions was wide receiver Deonte Thompson. His most notable was a 33-yard play on third-and-two with 33 seconds left in the first half. His longest reception of the day went for 46 yards. Thompson finished the game with four receptions for 91 yards.

Taylor did a good job of hitting his targets, but was unable to find the end zone. His final stat line was 21-for-38 passing, 281 yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Thompson was Buffalo’s leading receiver, but LeSean McCoy and Kelvin Benjamin were right behind him. McCoy had five receptions for 76 yards and his longest gain was for 39 yards. On that play, he just about shook every Patriots defender out of their shoes.

Right behind McCoy was Benjamin, who performed on a high level despite his knee troubles. He finished the game with five receptions for 70 yards.

“I’m just executing the plays that are called,” said Taylor. “K.B. [Benjamin] did a great job of winning his matchups.”

Taylor and company have plenty of positives to take away from Sunday’s passing attack. They’ll look to regroup in Week 17 against the Dolphins, where Taylor has thrown nine touchdowns and zero interceptions since joining the Bills.

He only needed four points, but Hauschka has now recorded 100 points in seven consecutive seasons. He’s tied with Stephen Gostkowski for the longest active streak in the NFL.

He was three-for-four on field goals, hitting from 23, 30, and 41 yards. Hauschka’s miss came from 50 yards out, where he’s been dominant all year. It was a tough spot for Buffalo, as it was fourth-and-one on New England’s 32-yard line. Considering Hauschka’s been money all season, head coach Sean McDermott elected to kick.

“I understand both sides. Of course the aggressive side says go for it, but at the same time you want to score points,” said quarterback Tyrod Taylor. “Hauschka has been very good for us and he’s going to continue to be good for us on field goals. It just didn’t go our way.”

In Buffalo, Hauschka’s set an NFL record for the most consecutive 50-plus yard field goals made. He also set Bills history for the most 50-plus yard field goals made in a season. On Sunday, he added to that impressive list, as he’s now tallied 100 points in each season since 2011.

Manchester City put Fulham to the sword with straightforward win

content_img

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan addressed Manchester City supporters for only the second time since he bought the club 10 years ago this month. “It feels that we are only halfway up our Everest,” the billionaire said as he reflected on the past decade and, spelling out his vision for the future, declared that there was “much more to win”.

For opponents, coming to the Etihad must invariably feel like trying to scale a treacherous mountain in relentlessly suffocating conditions. Fulham became the latest to more or less accept defeat at base camp. Pep Guardiola had said his team would get fully up to speed after the international break and so they are.

Bernardo Silva was the pick of a brilliant bunch, David Silva marked his 350th game for City with his 50th goal in the Premier League and rumours of Leroy Sane’s demise have, evidently, been greatly exaggerated. Restored to the team after recent criticism, the Germany winger capped a memorable week after becoming a father to a baby girl with a goal.

The only slight disappointment for Guardiola was that his side squandered so many chances and Sergio Aguero will require assessment before Wednesday’s Champions League tie against Lyon about being substituted early in the second half with a sore ankle.

“Three-nil is a good result but we created a lot of chances to score five, six, seven goals and we have to be more clinical because the contenders are so tough and the goal difference is important,” the City manager said.

A word or two on the man-on-the-match, Bernardo, first. His touch and quality has never been in doubt but he has now adjusted to the physicality of the Premier League. City’s second goal was a clear case in point.

This time last year, the Portugal playmaker would probably have been knocked over when Stefan Johansen tried to barge him out of the way as they challenged for the ball near the right byeline. But it was Bernardo who won this duel, outmuscling the Fulham midfielder, and then showing awareness to turn and feed Aguero.

The Argentine’s shot was deflected into the path of Silva, who controlled on his chest before rifling home off the bar.

“It is almost impossible to be more pleased as a manager with him,” Guardiola said of Bernardo. “I don’t forget the behaviour he had last season when he didn’t always play. He is a good example to all the others.”

City’s second goal was scored after 22 minutes and already by then there was no way back for Fulham. If you come here you have to at least make yourself competitive. That does not involve playing careless passes deep in your own half less than two minutes in that are just asking to be punished. But that is what Jean Michael Seri did, turning over the ball with a feeble pass intended for Odoi that Fernandinho intercepted. The Brazilian surged forward and squared for Sane – with a clear point to prove after his omission against Newcastle – to tap home.

“Even when he didn’t play we never doubted Leroy’s quality,” Guardiola said. “At his age, sometimes these things happen – a little bit up and down but I’m delighted for his performance.”

Fulham paid the price for backing off and giving fast, skilful players too much time and space. Ryan Sessegnon’s insistence on standing off Raheem Sterling was baffling while his positioning was suspect throughout. Had Sterling not been so wasteful in front of goal, the damage could have been more severe. “This will be a huge learning experience [for Ryan]”, said Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic.

Twice Fulham were indebted to keeper Marcus Bettinelli for shutting out Sterling. The first was a particularly disappointing miss. Bernardo showed outrageous skill to spin away from Seri and Kevin McDonald before releasing Sterling, whose shot was knocked on to the crossbar by the visitors’ No 1.

Ederson, the City goalkeeper, twice denied Andre Schurrle but Fulham were very vulnerable defensively. The second half was only two minutes old when Aguero powered down City’s right, with Sessegnon in no-man’s-land, past Alfie Mawson and squared for Sterling to score from a yard out. This time the England forward could not miss. City oozed control and the only blemish for Bernardo came late on when he blazed over fros Chelsea mustn’t give up hope of upsetting Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.The Blues have a mountain to ce time under former manager Unai Emery, and looked certain to leave the Emirates in the January transfer window. But Arteta made it clear he considered Ozil to be an important player for Arsenal in his fist press conference as boss, and already appearlimb after being beaten 3-0 by Bayern at Stamford Bridgelon D’Or.The Dutchman was integral to Liverpool’s Champions League final triumph, which included beating Lionel Messi’s Barcelona in the semi-finals. And Barnes thinks van Dijk has done enough this season to be crowned as the world’s best player.Aske on Tuesday.”We have to go to Munich and play withm 10 yards.

Cardiff goalkeeper Neil Etheridge saves Kenedy penalty to deny 10-man Newcastle victory at the death

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

eadline-day signings Victor Camarasa and Harry Arter were included to inject a much-needed boost into the midfield ranks after Cardiff failed to register a shot on goal in their opening defeat to Bournemouth.

There was to be no reunion for twins Josh and Jacob Murphy after Benitez chose to only swap Javier Manquillo for DeAndre Yedlin in the backline.

Kenedy unleashed the first shot on target of the game when he shimmied past Sean Morrison to test Neil Etheridge in the Cardiff goal, before the hosts went close to taking the lead.

Sol Bamba was left unmarked to head Joe Ralls’s corner towards goal, but Ayoze Perez was there to block it short of the line.

Kenedy, who became the first player for eight years not to complete a pass in the opening 45 minutes, was lucky not to see red when his kick-out at Camarasa was not spotted by Craig Pawson.

erez had another chance to break the deadlock before half-time after latching onto Jonjo Shelvey’s sweeping ball, but the Cardiff stopper closed down the space to keep it level.

Vincent Tan was almost sent jumping out of his seat after the restart when Zohore crossed for Camarasa, but Shelvey nipped in to send it behind.

Newcastle were left scrapping for a point when Hayden, who had come on as a stand-in right back for Javier Manquillo, went flying into the back of Murphy after 66 minutes. He was shown a straight red card to leave Newcastle with 10 men for the remainder of the match.

But they should have stolen it after Morrison raised his arm to block Yoshinori Muto’s cross and concede a penalty deep into stoppage time.

Bills Today: Whaley to spearhead coaching search

content_img

Here’s the Bills news of note for Dec. 28th.

With Rex Ryan relieved of his coaching duties Tuesday, the search for a new head coach will begin in earnest by the Bills. The team confirmed that GM Doug Whaley will head up the process.

The Bills general manager was part of the process two years ago and made his recommendations, but indication now is Whaley will take a lead role in the search for a new head coach.

He could begin to put out requests to interview coaching candidates as soon as the end of the week.

Interim head coach ays Real Betis will reject any offer from Liverpool for Firpo this summer.Firpo is believed to be firmly in the plans of coach Rubi ahead of the new campaign with the 22-year-old impressing last term.Liverpool, therefore, would need to pay the £45m Anthony Lynn is expected to be a consideration.

Buffalo’s league-leading rushing attack made a sizable climb up the franchise’s single-season rushing list in Week 16. Entering last Saturday’s game the 2016 Bills ranked 10th in team history in rushing yards with 2,290. After their 272-yard rushing performance they’ve vaulted themselves into the top 5.

“We kind of did what we wanted moving the ball,” said LeSean McCoy, who had his seventh 100-yard rushing day. “Running the ball, running the ball, taking shots. oach Florian k to his best. The Belgian has been in imperious form in recent weeks, with his man-of-the-match displays against Arsenal and Leicester vital in securing maximum points from two tough games. It’s seen a surge of praise for the midfielder, something EdeKohfeldt admits their interest in Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic is over. The Serb chose to sign on-loan with Hertha Berlin this summer ahead of Werder. And Kohfeldt concedes: “You cannot rule out anything, but that would be pure speculThe way that we’re built. That’s how we’re built. We run the ball and then take some shots.”

Buffalo now has 2,562 rushing yards on the season, which ranks as the fourth-best single season rushing with a game to play. They’re expected to pass the 1976 Bills (2,566) in the season finale against the Jets sitting just four yards behind them.

That figures to be where Buffalo’s 2016 run game will finish in club annals knowing they would need more than 400 yards on the ground to even surpass the 1975 Bills (2,974) who hold the number two spot all-time.

The 2016 Bills are however, expected to finish as the club’s all-time single-season leader in yards per carry average. They currently sit in the top spot at 5.52 yards per carry. It’s almost a half yard better than the 1973 Bills.

All season long the Bills offense has been experts when it comes to ball security. Last Saturday marked the eighth time this season they have not committed a turnover. It extended a new Bills single-season mark (previous mark was six games without turnover in 2015).

Buffalo has just nine turnovers through 15 games. That ties the NFL record low set by New England in the 2010 season.

If the Bills go without a giveaway against the Jets on Sunday it would set a new NFL record for fewest turnovers in a season. Buffalo’s previous record low was 19 last season.

The NFL record low is 10 originally set by the 2010 Patriots and matched by the 2011 San Francisco 49ers.

Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore to stand down after almost 20 years in charge at end of year

content_img

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

Scudamore has put collective bargaining at the heart of his reign ensuring that the league’s competitiveness has been maintained by a meritocratic sharing of the vast spoils of the television revenue generated from the like of Sky, BT Sport and a huge range of overseas broadcasters.

His successor, who is yet to be appointed, will never be able to wield that kind of influence over the competing forces in the Premier League. One of Scudamore’s last acts was to announce a new revenue-sharing agreement for overseas broadcast deals which are growing quicker than the value of the domestic rights and were previously shared equally among the 20 clubs.

He announced the sale of the two remaining broadcast packages to BT Sport and Amazon Prime, the first partner from among the big streaming corporations. Scudamore leaves with the domestic market finally slowing down having seen astonishing growth in the current cycle of rights, from 2016-2019. The clubs are said to have been reluctant to see him go but accepted his decision.

Were the likes of Manchester United, especially, and also Liverpool and Arsenal to go alone in the future and negotiate their own television deals there would be little doubt that the league’s general competitiveness would be lost forever preseason. The Belgian says he’s fit and ready following a 2018/19 campaign interrupted by injuries.”I’m fine,” De Bruyne said after the 3-1 win against Yokohama F. Marinos, in which he netted the opener.”What happened last year happtheir Melwood training ground. The Athletic reports Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher will captain teams next summer in the last ever match to be played at the club’s Melwood training ground. The Reds are moving into a new training fens to everybody.. Scudamore has kept them all in line by reminding shareholders that it is the power of the collective to provide competition every weekend that is the great strength of the Premier League.

He will see his greatest achievement as turning the league into the most lucrative in the world. He also pushed through the Elite Player Performance Plan which underpins youth development in the professional game’s academy system. He persuaded the clubs to adopt the £30 cap for away tickets. The league also pays around £100 million to community and grassroots programmes a year, including its Football Foundation charity, a.Allegri announced his departure last week amid claims of losing the trust of president Andrea Agnelli, along with directors Pavel Nedved and to a lesser extent Fabio Paratici.Allegri said, “We talked, expressed our ideas on what was best for Juvennd another £100 million in solidarity payments to the Football League.

His reign has not been without controversy. His proposal in February 2008 to play a 39th game overseas was conceived to give smaller clubs with little global appeal a share of the Premier League’s huge international audience. Instead it backfired and cast him as the enemy of English football. He was embroiled in a leaked email scandal in 2014.

A Bristol City supporter who previously worked for the Football League, Scudamore has seen the sea-change in ownership from largely British families to a range of the planet’s super-rich. It is his organisation that has investigated the fitness of these owners to buy clubs and tried to keep them on the same page when it comes to their responsibilities to the rest of football.

Buck said that the search for Scudamore’s successor had begun and the new man or woman will be expected to navigate a very different pay-TV market that is likely to feature more streaming platforms like Amazon. Scudamore said that he would spend more time watching his club Bristol City, still yet to play in the Premier League. He said he has no plans to retire.

Bills name Marvin Allen and Brian Adams national scouts

content_img

The Bills pro and college scouting departments are filling up quickly. On Thursday the team announced the hiring of Marvin Allen and Brian Adams as National Scouts.

“Both men are veterans in this league. They’ve been in it for a long time,” said Bills GM Brandon Beane. “It’s the same thing as players, we want to grow and develop. These are two guys who will be over the younger scouts and be part of helping us grow and develop our scouting staff. You just can’t replace their time and accomplishments in the league.”

Allen has spent the last four years as the Director of College Scohis style of play. The now retired Bulgarian was always a polarising figure among fans of the club, as some felt his style was too lazy compared to forwards Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney. But Berbatov considers himself “an artist on the pitch” and had uting for the Kansas City Chiefs. A 24-year veteran in NFL scouting, he also spent five years scouting for the Atlanta Falcons, serving as a National Scout after a few years as a regional scout.

The early part of his career was spent with the New England Patriots where he served as an area scout ed with Barcelona.Griezmann finally completed his long-awaited move from Atlético de Madrid to Camp Nou on Friday having seemed set to join Barça last year before opting to stay put. Barça triggered the €120million release clause in his contractfor 16 years (1993-2008).

“Marvin started in the 90’s. He’s most recently been a college (scouting) director so he’s sat in that seat,” Beane said. “He’s going to be a great resource not only for me, but for all our college scouts.”

Allen also had a four-year NFL career as a running back with the PatJody Morris said Chelsea need to address their home form ahead of their third round FA Cup tie with Nottingham Forest on Sunday. With Tribalfootball.com in attendance, Frank Lampard’s assistant was standing in for the pre-match press conference and sariots, who made him an 11th-round pick in the 1988 NFL draft.

Adams has more than 30 years of scouting experience. He spent the 2016 campaign as the Midwest regional scout for the Dallas Cowboys, but spent seven years with the Saints. He also has a working history with Beane, spending seven years in the Panthers scouting department.

“I worked with Brian in Carolina. We had a long history there,” said Beane. “Brian went to the Saints to take a promotion to Assistant Director of College Scouting, and was most recently with Dallas. He’s a veteran in scouting and well respected across the league. I look forward to reuniting with him.”

Bills Today: Bills offense still working on timing

Here’s the Bills news of note for Aug. 20th.

An offense uses training camp for one main purpose – to get in sync. In offensive coordinator Rick Dennison’s offense, most routes are based upon timing. This means that Tyrod Taylor and his rec have reportedly made an approach for Lille striker Leão.The Toffees are keen on teammate Nicolas Pepe, but face being priced out of a deal.Leao would be a cheaper optioHenderson says they must do better, despite victory over Arsenal. The Reds defeated Arsenal 3-1 on Saturday.”We knew if we did the right things, played to our strengths, defended really well and were clinical in front of goal, then we’d hurt them,” Hen and reports in France suggest Everton have approached Lille over a £37m deal.eivers will need as many reps as possible to ensure they’re on the same page. Rookie Zay Jones said this has been a slow process.

“It’s different when it’s routes against air and everything is laid out for you,” said Jones. “When you get press coverage, sometimes it throws timing off, and sometimes it’s obviously a different look. But, that’s what the preseasons is for. You just have to keep playing and keep building, and that stuff is going to come.”

For a rookie like Jones, and newcomers like Andre Holmes and Corey Brown, establishing timing in a new offense is a process. Not only do they have to become comfortable with their quarterback, but they have to understand their route, and the offensive scheme.2-1 midweek at Camp Nou and the same result this evening in the Derby d’Italia at San Siro.“It has been a mixed week, because we played not badly in Barcelona and here tonight too. We kept the ball and created chances, but were unable to score the It can take countless reps before a quarterback instinctively knows where his receiver will be.

Coach Sean McDermott said that in the second preseason game some of the protection issues could be attributed to the offense being out of sync.

“There are a lot of factors that really came into play in terms of the pressure on our quarterbacks [against the Eagles],” said McDermott. “Technique is obviously one thing, beating the man in front of you and the timing of the offense has to work hand in hand with the protection and route development and the quarterback getting the ball out on time.”

Building timing will only develop as Taylor becomes more familiar with his new targets. As the offense becomes more confident in the scheme, their play will start to find a rhythm.

“I’ve gone back and I was going through charting every penalty and trying to put them in different categories as you try to solve problems,” said McDermott. “You want to be able to say it’s all one area and that’s not the case. There’s some discipline in there. There’s concentration. There’s playing aggressive without hesitation so we stay in good position and we’re not in chase mode. So, there are different buckets that are factoring into the penalties, all of which are unacceptable.”

The Bills ended the second preseason game with 15 penalties for 131 yards. As McDermott stated, these penalties occurred during all parts of the game. Although some of the calls could certainly be considered questionable, the Bills still committed far too many penalties. Some notable calls include a leveraging penalty on Eddie Yarbrough on a field goal, which extended an Eagles drive. Another poor penalty was a pass interference call against Greg Mabin in the end zone, which gave the Eagles the ball at the one yard line.

Jerel Worthy lamented the leveraging call, and said that McDermott said they just can’t have those mental mistkes.

“When you’re running out on the field and you get penalties for being combative and you’re going after the ball, he doesn’t really have a problem with those,” said Worthy. “The dumb penalties, the pre-snap penalties, the false starts and the offsides that we have on defense, those are the ones that can hurt our team and can lead to points.”

Nine-year veteran, and longtime Buffalo Bill, Eric Wood said he’s never seen this many penalties in the preseason.

“It’s something that needs to be fixed,” said Wood. “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen it to this extent.”

McDermott said that he would be bringing in officials to work with the team during practice. Wood said working on penalties in practice could help.

“The game of football is a game of split-second decisions,” said Wood. “You have to just train yourself in practice to just work on it. We just can’t have the pre-snap and post-whistle penalties.”

With officials at practice, and greater scrutiny on penalties, the Bills will certainly make a concerted effort to improve their discipline as they prepare for the Ravens.

Kyle Williams was ranked as the third best defensive tackle in the NFL by ProFootball Focus. Williams is in elite company behind Aaron Donald, and Kawann Short.

Although a weakness last season, the Bills have showed encouraging improvement in their run defense so far in the preseason. Against both the Vikings and Eagles, the Bills were stout against the run. The Bills gave up only 66 rushing yards in the second preseason game. A big part of the Bills run stopping ability is Williams. His capacity to knife into the backfield, and disrupt plays is unmatched by many.

What makes Williams one of the best overall defensive tackles in the NFL is his ability to do it all. Not only can he stop the run, but he can also rush the passer. Williams had five sacks last season. His most productive year was in 2013 when he had 10.5 sacks – a massive number for a defensive tackle.

As the Bills defense looks for a resurgence in 2017, Williams will be one of the most important players in guiding the unit.

Mousa Dembele casts doubt over his Tottenham future with talks on hold until after the World Cup

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

“At the beginning of the season, I said ‘I had physical problems, I want to see at the end of the season how I feel’. That’s what the club and I decided by mutual agreement.

“If we talk about a new contract in the middle of the season, it will cost energy. Imagine that a player feels not appreciated after a disappointing proposal, it can disrupt his game.

“At this moment, I am very happy at Tottenham. I do not lie when I say that I do not think about a big transfer. I want to play a World Cup and afterwards we will see.

“Really, I’m not aware of the interest of other clubs. And, besides, I told my agent to wait for the summer to tell me about any offers. For now, I’m only focussing on Tottenham. Maybe this is my last season. Or maybe I’ll sign a new deal. We’ll see.”

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has insisted that players will only leave the club if Pochettino gives his blessing, regardless of their contract situations.

Central defender Toby Alderweireld is expected to move after his contract negotiations were put on hold and uncertainty over Dembele will concern fans.

Pochettino has hailed Dembele a “genius” and one of the best players he has ever worked with, buerbroker Franz Beckenbauer admits he’d like to see James Rodriguez stay.James is coming to the end of a two season loan at Bayern from Real Madrid and can be bought outright for €42m.However, Bayern coach Niko Kovac would prefer James be allowed tot his age and injury record mean that contract negotiations could be complicated.

His next contract represents Dembele’s last chance to earn himself a lucrative deal and the Belgian is also keen to finish his career with more medals.

Whether or ded four youngsters to his senior squad.United have officially added young players Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and James Garner to their first team squad.Solskjaer is keen for the quarter to be heavily involved in first team matters thnot Tottenham are ready to make a big commitment to Dembele and also provide evidence they can start to star Salomon Rondon says he could rejoin the club in the future.Rondon is currently in China, where he joined former boss Rafa Benitez at Dalian Yifang. But he admits that it was not entirely his choice to leave, as Newcastle did not offer him a contwin trophies may ultimately decide whether or not an agreement is reached after the World Cup.

Regardless of Dembele’s future, Tottenham are keen to strengthen their midfield during the summer and had hoped Italy’s Bryan Cristante would play a part against England at Wembley on Tuesday night.

Spurs have been tracking Cristante, who is on loan at Atalanta from Benfica, but he was left on the substitutes’ bench by Italy. He has played all through the age groups for his country and made two senior appearances.

For a few Bills players and coaches, Oakland is far from uncharted territory. Bills sack leader LB Lorenzo Alexander is a native of Berkeley, Calif. and also spent the 2015 season with the Raiders. Additionally, Bills assistant head coach/defense Rob Ryan, wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal, outside linebackers coach Jeff Weeks and offensive line coach Aaron Kromer all spent time on Oakland’s coaching staff.

Buffalo’s offensive line will be tasked with containing one of the NFL’s top pass rushers in DE Khalil Mack this weekend. It won’t be easy, but the Bills are up for the challenge.

One of the biggest surprises on Buffalo’s offense this season has been wide receiver Justin Hunter. Signed in late September to help bolster the team’s receiving corps, Hunter has managed four touchdowns on just seven receptions. With those stats, expect Hunter to continue to find the end zone.

In Week 13, players around the NFL will be able to showcase the causes they are passionate about through the “My Cause, My Cleats” initiative.  The league-wide program allows each participant to customize their cleats and wear them during the game. Pep Guardiola to explain yellow ribbon stance in letter to the FA

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

In 2016, Fifa had ruled that poppies on shirts contravened its rules on political symbols but the FA defied the regulation with England’s players wearing poppies for an international against Scotland close to Remembrance Day in November that year and later secured a new ruling from Fifa to permit poppies.

Guardiola could also consider arguing that his was unwitting. The ribbon had been concealed under a bomber jacket he was wearing during the first half at the DW Stadium last Monday but Guardiola ended up unzipping the jacket in the second half, leaving the symbol clearly visible. Guardiola had clashed with Wigan manager Paul Cook at the end of the first half after City defender Fabian Delph’s red card.

Guardiola elected to wear the ribbon on his jumper during City’s Carabao Cup final win over Arsenal on Sunday although it was mostly concealed during the game by a coat and scarf. The Catalan is free to wear the ribbon before and after matches and during pressWolves striker Rafa Mir is attracting fresh Spanish interest.El Periodico de Aragón says Wolves striker Mir is wanted by Real Zaragoza.Mir spent last season on loan at Las Palmas. He’s due to go back to Wolves – and is also being linked with Hull City.Wolves boss Nuno is expected to take a close look at Mir in preseason before making a final decision. conferences.

Some City fans wore ribbons in support of Guardiola on Sundanited .Although City have no chance of catching runaway leaders Liverpool , their top-four status is assured, with Guardiola’s side holding a 15-point lead over fifth-placed United.”When we believe it’s more important for them, we’re going to lose,” y and the manager thanked them for that. “The feeling to belong to something, I am really grateful for that initiative,” he said.

“They don’t have to do it. It is another country, yet they did that. That makes me really happy because that makes people understand the situation, what is going on, people in prison in Spain so 100 per cent grateful to them.”

City face Arsenal in the Premier League tomorrow with Guardiola insisting the league is the priority over the Champions League. City are 13 points clear of Manchester United with 11 fixtures to play.

“We are fighting for the most important title of the season by far, the Premier League, more than Champions League, more important than the FA Cup, Carabao Cup. That is enough encouragement to be focused,” he said.

“The next six fixtures are terrible in terms of quality of the opponents, and we have four games away and we still have to win six games. When you think about Arsenal, you think about Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal and our away games, Stoke City playing for relegation, going to Goodison Park is always a tough game. We have a lot of tough games still to play and have to remain focused.

“The league is always the most difficult, a game every three days. It shows how good you are over 11 months. All the titles I have won, La Liga, Bundesliga, the league is the most difficult. In the Carabao Cup we won two penalty rounds, Bravo saved them or you could be out. That is a toss of a coin, sometimes good, sometimes bad. The league is conso Everton did not happen over the summer.Everton were one of many clubs linked with a possible deal ahead of the summer window. He told HLN: “There was interest and there have been conversations, but it never came to a point where I had to decide: Do istency, the players know that. They know exactly how important the league is for this club, for our futures. Of course we have to be focused, we know how tough it will be until the end of the season.”

Meanwhile, it was revealed today that Guardiola gave a short speech as part of a champagne toast at Manchester City’s training ground on Wednesday afternoon in which he thanked staff for the part they played in helping to win the first trophy of his managerial reign at the club.

Guardiola addressed scores of staff in City’s canteen at their CFA headquarters in the wake of Sunday’s Carabao Cup triumph over Arsenal by telling them, “Thank you to everyone for helping us win”.

The City manager concluded his speech by telling the assembled employees that the team would do everything to ensure they now delivered “the most important title”, the Premier League. City currently lead Manchester United by 13 points with 11 games remaining.

Guardiola’s address was followed by a speech from Omar Berrada, City’s chief operating officer, and a champagne toast. The League Cup was also brought into the canteen for staff to see and have their picture taken with.

Bills Today: A bigger role for Justin Hunter?

content_img

Here’s the Bills news of note for Nov. 29th

All he’s done since joining the Bills is catch touchdowns. Of his seven receptions for Buffalo this season, four of Justin Hunter’s catches have gone for scores including last Sunday’s game winner in the fourth quarter.

“I think so,” said Ryan of more playing time for Hunter. “All he does is catch touchdowns. I remember that quote. Just like we had T-D Mike (Gillislee), now we’ve got TD Hunter, touchdown Hunter. He gives us a huge red zone threat, but also I think he does warrant more playing time. With some ofity to sign Lloyd Kelly, who joined Bournemouth from Bristol City earlier this week. The Sun claims Liverpool have moved their sights towards Leeds United teenager Leif Davis. The 19-year-old made only four Championship appearances this season but has the injuries we have there’s no reason he shouldn’t be able to play more.”

Robert Woods is still dealing with by coach Quique Setien.Setien replaced Ernesto Valverde at the turn of the year.”Honestly, after seeing the last few Barcelona matches, I haven’t seen any improvement since they sacked Valverde and brought in Setien,” he admitted. ‘With the great pla knee injury suffered in Week 11 and Walt Powell exited Sunday’s game with an ankle injury. Percy Harvin is dealing with debilitating migraine headaches that kept him out of the Jaguars game. That leaves the team with four healthy receivers in Hunter, Marquise Goodwin, Brandon Tate and Sammy Watkins.

Through the first half of the season the Bills had a top five red zone defense. Through the first six games of the season Buffalo allowed just six touchdowns on 18 red zone possessions by their opponents, good for just a 33 percent success rate to rank first in the NFL.

In the last five games however, the success rate for opponents has skyrocketed to 81 percent (13-16), with the last three opponents a perfect eight for eight scoring touchdowns once theala remains high on Manchester United’s shopping list.Tuttosport says United are willing to reopen negotiations to sign Dybala from Juve.United failed to sign the Argentine in the summer window but remain on the hunt for a new forward after selling Ry reached Buffalo’s 20-yard line. The Bills now rank 19th in red zone defense.

So what gives?

“That’s an area in particular that we have to get better at,” said Ryan. “We’ve already studied where we’re failing in the red zone and I think we’re amongst the leaders in the league from the 20 all the way down to the five-yard line, but it’s when we get inside the five-yard line they’ve scored 12 times on 22 plays. So that’s a huge area of concern.”

Buffalo’s defensive staff is already devising ways to improve their performance in goal line situations, and it hasn’t all been short yardage runs. Two weeks ago at Cincinnati, Andy Dalton scored on a two-yard run outside the tackle box, but he also threw a one-yard fade to the corner for their other red zone score to go two-for-two against the Bills.

“There are some things to look at obviously,” said Ryan. “Everybody runs the same call down there we just have to get better playing down there. That’s an area where you can’t focus a whole lot, but that area right there is killing us. So we have to do some internal things down there so we can get better there.”

“I wish we knew, but that’s when you’ve got to be at your best to stop them, but unfortunately we have given up quite a few of those, two back to back this past game,” said Ryan. “You’ve just got to line up and play every play and find a way to get them off the field. That was the thing that was disappointing to me (Sunday).”

Ryan felt the defense was particularly hurt by the read option keepers and scramble runs by Jaguars QB Blake Bortles. He was Jacksonville’s leading rusher with 81 yards on eight carries to average better than 10 yards per rush. Bortles converted two third downs for the Jaguars with his legs.

“I thought we had some calls set up to give our coverage a chance and the quarterback makes some big runs on us to convert third downs,” said Ryan. “Those are killers. I’ve mentioned how that can be frustrating for the defense when you have them all covered up and then the quarterback makes a play. Now we know how other teams feel when they play us because Tyrod does the same thing. We’ve got to balance up the rushing lanes and not let these quarterbacks take off on us.”

Fortunately for the Bills, Oakland QB Derek Carr, doesn’t run with nearly the success that Bortles has this season. He’s averaged less than two yards per carry.
