How two was better than one all night for Alabama vs. Oklahoma in the 2018 Orange Bowl

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Heisman Trophy winner ran circles around the No. 1 team in the country on Saturday night in the Orange Bowl. Kyler Murray made spectacular downfield throws, dizzying, darting runs and looked like, well, a Heisman Trophy winner.

But his entire performance was a postmortem show. The death blow had been delivered long before Murray staetired from international football. The midfielder, who has been in four World Cup squads and won 80 caps, joined League One side Southend United in the summer from Scottish Premiership club Hibernian.”It has been a privilege to be involved with the Srted tearing apart No. 1 Alabama as the Tide took a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter. And it wasn’t just the Heisman runner-up who took it to No. 4 Oklahoma early and often at the start of the game. It was a player across the line of scrimmage who also has a case for being considered the best player in the country.

Tua Tagovailoa, lining up behind center, and Quinnen Williams, lining up in front of center on defense, gave the Sooners 17 minutes of hell. By the time OU had its footing, even six straight scoring possessions weren’t enough to erase the deficit Tagovailoa, Williams and their supporting cast had created.

The beauty of the performance of both Tagovailoa and Williams is the way they unlock the rest of Nick Saban’s mighty roster. Tagovailoa was masterful, almost perfect, completing 24-of-27 attempts for 318 yards passing with  four touchdowns and no interceptions. Wide receiver Devonta Smith was his favorite target, and he jabbed the Oklahoma defense with slants for 104 yards on six catches. In total, a 2018 team record nine players caught passes for the Tide, including backup quarterback Jalen Hurts.

By his own admission, Tagovailoa was only 80-85 percent healthy on Wednesday. About 72 hours later, he looked 100 percent by any human standard. He was active in the pocket, successful scrambling and precise as a passer. Even when he did experience his first serious contact on the Tide’s second drive of the game, he threw a touchdown pass one play later. After some injury-hampered outings against Mississippi State, Auburn and Georgia, Tua looks like Tua again, and the offense is back to juggernaut status.

Of course, Oklahoma has a way of bringing out the best in an opposing offense. This is, after all, the same Sooners team that gave up 40 to Kansas. It also has a tendency to bring out the worst in a deer became a regular in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.He said: “Of course it’s hard to get to a big team.“But then it’s harder to stay there because you are competing with a lot of footballers that are such hard workers.“When you get to the big clfense, though. It even made Alabama look very uncharacteristic on Saturday but not before Williams got his paws on it for 17 minutes.

During that decisive 28-0 start, Williams was dominant. Like Tagovailoa, Williams’s domination helped to spread the production around. He only had one tackle himself on the night, but he was creating chaos on nearly every snap in that first quarter.

Behind Williams and the rest of that Alabama defensive front, Oklahoma’s award-winning offensive line looked overmatched. It took a full quarter for that unit to adjust to the best defender in . By the time it did, Oklahoma had been outgained 200-24, giving up two sacks and going 0 for 3 on third down tries. And it was down by three touchdowns.

Alabama’s two stars were better than Oklahoma’s one. It’s two units — including a defense able to contain Murray, other Premier League sides want to sign Butland, but have been put off by Stoke’s valuation, according to the Birmingham Mail. The Potters want more than £20 million for the 25-year-old, which no one is willing to pay.Stoke boss Nathan Jones confirm if only for a quarter-plus — were better than one. Alabama was better than Oklahoma, and it was clear from the start that what we all expected rang true: The Sooners were good but flawed.

And in this era of college football, with Alabama and Clemson playing at such an elite level, flawed teams need not apply.

USC vs. Texas score: Longhorns dominate No. 22 Trojans with impressive second half

needed a big win to get some heat off of coach Tom for granted in the Champions League. The Reds begin their defence of the title with a tricky game against the talented Italian outfit. And Klopp knows that if his side are not at their best, Napoli will be happy to pounce on any weaknesses. The last timHerman’s back. And a big win — the 900th in the illustrious history of the program — the Longhorns got in the form of a 37-14 beatdown of the No. 22 .

The final score didn’t reflect how tight things were for the first half. USC jumped out to a 14-3 lead after the first quarter but the Longhorns responded by chipping away at the lead and taking a 16-14 halftime advantage.

That’s when the floodgates opened. After scoring on its first offensive possession of the third quarter, Texas took a 50-yard blocked punt back for a touchdown to go up 30-13. Texas capped off the 21-point third quarter with a four-yard touchdown run by quarterback .

It wasn’t a perfect performance by Texas. Play-calling continld has explained the thought process behind his incredible crosses. The 22-year-old registered his 12th assist of the season in Monday’s win over West Ham United when he set-up Sadio Mane to tap home the winner.Asked whether he seeks out a teammate wiues to be a puzzle for this offense. A lot of Ehlinger’s passes were difficult throws downfield when there was space in the more intermediate part of the field. The running game only began asserting itself later as USC wore down, too. But it’s a win for Herman, and he needed one in the worst way.

It doesn’t matter a ton that USC has a lot of questions. The special teams were bad — the Trojans had shanked punts, a roughing the kicker penalty and the aforementioned blocked punt — and the offense had no ground game with just six yards rushing. That doesn’t help freshman quarterback , making just his second career road start. USC is now 1-2 and certainly doesn’t look like a team ready to compete for a Pac-12 championship.

Herman will take it, though. Afn attacker Anthony Knockaert. The Sun says the Cottagers have made contact with Brighton and while a formal offer has yet to be made, a £15million fee has been discussed.Knockaert will be tempted to drop down a division by the prospect of a hefty incter a horrid start to the season with a loss to and a tighter-than-necessary game with , Texas needed something good. There’s no rest for the weary, though, with coming to Austin next. USC gets on a short week. The Trojans have also lost back-to-back games by double digits.

Former four-star LB Darrin Kirkland Jr. decides not to leave Tennessee after all

Now this is what you call an about-face. Less than a week after Tennessee linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. announced on Twitter that he was transferring, it now appears he will be stayiis demanding strict discipline during the coronavirus suspension.Laporte revealed Guardiola has warned his team to stay in shape – and not go out in public. He said: “They have given us a daily training schedule. They trust in you and you have to beng with the Vols.

First-year coach Jeremy Pruitt on Tuesday that Kirkland will remain at Tennessee. Gridiron Now on Monday night that Kirkland had changed his mind. According to Pruitt, the decision came after he met with Kirkland and his parents over the weekend to discuss his plans. The consensus from the meeting was that Tennessee would be the best place for Kirkland to finish out his career despite injury problems.

Kirkland’s original tweet has since been deleted.

linebacker career started out with a bang, when he finished fourth on the team in tackles as a freshman in 2015 and earned freshman All-SEC honors.

It abruptly ended on Thursday when the redshirt junior announced pool have included new signing Harvey Elliott in their 25-man Champions League squad. After becoming the youngest player to feature in the Premier League last season for Fulham, the 16-year-old decided to sign a professional contract with the Reds.Ki-his transfer from the program.

The 6-foot-1, 238-pound native of Indianapolis notched 45 tackles in eight games in 2016, but an ankle injury suffered in the middle of the season prevented him from playing a full season. The injury bug bit Kirkland again in 2017, when he that ended his season before it even began.

He was limited in spring practice after a minor procedure to address a torn meniscus, but new coach Jeremy Pruitt seemed upbeat about Kirkland’s future when he addressed it in late March.

“Darrin had his knee cleaned up, so he’ll back, probably in two or three weeks,” . “He had done really well, progressed, worked in the offseason and (had) just a minor little clean-up there, so he’ll be back ready to go.”

He might be reourinho returns to Old Trafford as Tottenham manager on Wednesday with only two points and four places separating the sides.”Yeah, I think it’s massive,” the 22-year-old told Manchester United’s website. “Obviously, we go into every game wanting to wady to go, but it won’t be in Knoxville.

The former four-start prospect will have two seasons of eligibility at his new school.

Of the 30 players in Tennessee’s 2015 recruiting class, 15 have left the program for various reasons. Three of those — running back , defensive lineman  and running back — left for the (although Kamara’s eligibility would have been exhausted by 2018). Fourteen members of the class either transferred or were dismissed from the program.

Cover 3: Get to know some of the big name coordinators primed for top coaching jobs

This week’s Cover 3 spans all things college football digs into, including the coordinators that are most appealing as the coaching carousel picks up steam, the puzzling trend going on at Texas and the college football’s big loss over the weekend that few noticed.

1. The next coaches among coordinators

As the coaching carousel begins to spin in earnest, the obvious names that will be tossed around as candidates for the big jobs are going to be sitting Power Five head coaches or up-and-comers from the Group of Five ranks. But all over the country, whether it is Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma, Kirby Smart at Georgia, Scott Frost at UCF or even Will Muschamp at South Carolina, guys that were hired from coordinator roles are among the biggest breakthrough stars in 2017.

With a cycle approaching that features a relatively limited inventory of rising Group of Five coaches, as well as realistic scenarios that see jobs like UCLA, Arkansas, Nebraska and Texas A&M joining current openings at Florida, Tennessee and Ole Miss, it’s time to get to know some of the nation’s best coaching candidates from the coordinator ranks.

Ready for big timeJoe Moorhead, Penn State offensive coordinator

He has head coaching experience. He took a Fordham team that was 1-10 before his arrival to 12-2 in his second year and he ended his four-year tenure with three straight FCS playoff performances. Moorhead has turned Penn State’s offense from listless to one of the most explosive in and he’s only 44, just two years older than the heavily coveted Scott Frost.

Brent Venables, Clemson defensive coordinator

One of the nation’s highest paid coordinators, Venables only seems interested in leaving for the perfect fit. He’s an energetic coach, a dogged recruiter and has reloaded to produce one of the nation’s best defenses regularly despite hemorrhaging talent every spring.

Greg Schiano, Ohio State defensive coordinator

This is the guy that had Rutgers ranked seventh in the nation at one point. His struggles as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have overshadowed what was a remarkable run in Piscataway, New Jersey.

On the cuspJeremy Pruitt, Alabama defensive coordinator

One of the best recruiters in the country, Pruitt has been a defensive coordinator for three years and has appeared in two national title games during that time, winning one. He’s also learned from the best, coaching under Nick Saban, Mark Richt and Jimbo Fisher.

Jonathan Smith, Washington offensive coordinator

A mainstay on Chris Petersen’s staff since 2012, Smith played at Oregon State, was a graduate assistant at Oregon State and has developed the kind of offensive resume that could make him a very attractive candidate in Corvallis.

Mike Bloomgren, Stanford offensive coordinator

Bloomgren has regularly produced some of college football’s best offensive lines at Stanford and he has proven that he can recruit with anyone in the country as well. Given Stanford’s national approach to recruiting and his background (born and raised in Tallahassee, graduate assistant at Alabama), Bloomgren would be adaptable in any region.

Manny Diaz, Miami defensive coordinator

A successful defensive coordinator at just about every stop in his career, Diaz has taken some real ownership of the Miami resurgence and as the son of the former mayor of Miami, he’s got leadership in his blood.

Mike Yurcich, Oklahoma State offensive coordinator

Mike Gundy’s former offensive coordinators include successful head coaches like Larry Fedora, Dana Holgorsen and Todd Monken. Yurcich is putting up numbers that would make even that group blush.

Tee Martin, USC offensive coordinator

He’s already proven himself as one of the best recruiters in college football and Martin has taken well to the coordinator role. With a national championship at Tennessee, roots in Alabama and success out west, his profile is compelling on a number of fronts.

2. The Texas curse

Watching Diaz put together one of the best defenses in college football down at Miami isn’t surprising to anyone that has followed his career — unless perhaps you’re a Texas fan. Diaz was in Austin as the decline of the Longhorns kicked into gear. He took over the No. 9 defense in the country in yards per play allowed and in his three years there, Diaz’s defenses were ranked No. 9, No. 85 and No. 62 in the same category.

The tumble for a defense that had been No. 1 in the country only two years before he arrived made Diaz’s successful career prior at Middle Tennessee and Mississippi State look like false positives. Since his departure, it’s become clear that part of the support team of Barcelona youngster Ansu Fati.Marca says at the end of last season, Fati had to renew his contract but talks hit a brick wall. It was then the player’s father who contacted Rodrigo Messi, from which point forward he lookeit was Texas that was the fallacy. Diaz’s defenses at Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State and Miami in next three seasons all improved dramatically under his watch.

Remarkably, Diaz isn’t alone. He was just the first of a lengthening line of bright young coaches who are really good at things that translate everywhere except in Austin. Charlie Strong came to Texas with the chops to fix a floundering defense and he did … for one year. In the next two bowl-less seasons, Strong’s defenses looked awful and incompetent. Yet, in his new job at USF, Strong is once again fielding one of the best defensive units in the country.

Tom Herman isn’t immune from the curse either. He’s got Texas looking competitive in a tough Big 12 and is still in danger of missing a bowl game for the third straight season because his offense is failing him. His offensive acumen has been undeniable at every stop in his career until now, and he has the job largely because of what his offenses did at both Ohio State and Houston.

So what’s missing? For Diaz, perhaps it was just a maield for last night’s Champions League defeat at Atletico Madrid.Liverpool lost 1-0 in the Spanish capital on Tuesday night and play the Champions League last-16 second leg next month at Anfield. “Well it was a really frustrating night for Liverpool, tter of time. The year after he left, Texas shot right back up to the top 10 defensively under Strong and perhaps the jump would have been similar under Diaz.

For Strong and Herman, we may be looking at head coaches spread too thin.

In their previous head coaching positions, the demands on the head coach are incomparable to the obligations required at Texas. Strong is afforded much more time to gameplan and prepare at Louisville and USF than he was at Texas. The same can be said for Herman at Houston. Vance Joseph didn’t cut it under Strong and Tim Beck under Herman hasn’t yet proven up to the task.

Herman seems to have the arrow pointed up at Texas and my hunch is that offense gets corrected soon, but the phenomena offers a lesson to some otho Manchester United.United paid £46.5m plus add-ons for Fernandes but Varandas admitted they were nearly forced them to take a lower offer from Tottenham.“At the end of June, we had become aware that we were going to sell Bruno,” he told Record.”Wer schools on the verge of major hires. Florida and Tennessee are schools with rabid fan bases to appease and countless asks of a head coach. In those environments, you’d better be confident not only in the hire, but in the guys coming with him if you want a quick fix.

3. College football took a hit this weekend

Very few casual football fans around the country know the name Tony Perry. He’s not a big money coach or a NFL millionaire, but a lot of big money coaches and NFL millionaires have Tony Perry plugged into their phone. If you plan on recruiting Fresno, California, or if you were a kid trying to get out of Fresno, you needed to know “TP.”

Over the weekend, Perry passed away. He was an assistant coach at Edison High School and he was a mentor to and an advocate for countless football players in the greater Fresno area.

There’s often a stigma attached to guys like Perry. For a lot players, he was the dreaded “third party” that the NCAA works so hard to restrict. But Perry was an example of the positive impact a third party “mentor” can have on a player. He’s often the guy taking prospects to camps or 7-on-7 events in the offseason, living in smelly vans and cheap hotels with a bunch of rowdy teens and pounding the phones to alert college coaches to the kids that deserve an opportunity. If TP called, I’d know that I had better set aside at least 20 minutes of phone time in front of me, hearing about his latest crop.

Guys that Perry touched include Miami Dolphins safety T.J. McDonald, Pittsburgh Steelers safety Robert Golden, Utah true freshman starting corner Jaylon Johnson and Oklahoma linebacker Caleb Kelly.

This is no broad defense of third-party actors in the college football recruiting process. But it’s a defense of the good ones. Tony Perry was a good one and for a lot of guys that needed him, Tony Perry was there. College football is worse off for losing him.

Virginia Tech vs. West Virginia prediction, pick, odds, watch live stream, TV channel

For years, the Black Diamond Trophy was awarded to the winner of and , border rivals and bitter conference rivals during their days in the Big East. The two squads haven’t played since 2005, and an offseason full of smack talk has added to the hype for this Sunday night showdown at FedEx Field in Landover, Md..

Both teams enter 2017 with e’s unsure of his next move. While his father has pushed for a switch to Napoli, James is said to be eager to hear from Manchester United before making a final decision. In Brazil for the Copa America, the Colombia captain said: “I do not know, I have new starting quarterbacks — redshirt freshman for Tech, former quarterback for the Mountaineers — and VT comes into it after winning 10 games and finishing in the top 25 a year ago, starting this season in the preseason poll. Dana Holgorsen and Justin Fuente both ascended the coaching ranks as well-respected offensive coordinators, and this game is expected to be very informative in terms of how each team has handled the turnover and whether either squad is primed to make a run at the favorites in their respective conferences.

Viewing information

Sunday, Sept. 3 | 7:30 p.m. ET FedEx Field — Landover, Maryland ABC |

: Hokie fans seemed to know the names of all the offensive staff members prior to Justin Fuente’s arrival — and not for good reasons. The slide from winning ACC Coastal Division and cor Mikel Arteta admits that he needs to get into the Champions League to sign better players. The Gunners are among several teams that are trying to find a route into the top four in the Premier League.Given they are out of theback Juan Miranda.RAC1 says Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici is in Barcelona today for negotiations over Miranda.Juve have offered Daniele Rugani as part of the deal. However, Olympique Marseille remain ahead of the Bianconeri as they want to tak Europa League, the leagunference titles to fighting for bowl eligibility was defined by an offense that could never get on the same page and produce consistently across an entire season. Logan Thomas and Michael Brewer each had games — and moments in games — where everything was clicking. Bud Foster’s Lunch Pail Defense was complemented by an offense that could go toe-to-toe with anyone in the country. But there were also moments, like this one against in 2014, that haunt Virginia Tech fans to this day.

Fuente brought a strong offensive reputation with him and quickly put his system in with a first-year starter in , who meshed well with some proven pieces already on the roster (, to name a few) and went on to break or tie 10 offensive school records on the way to a Coastal Division title and the program’s first 10-win season since 2011. The defense still looks loaded, so the main intrigue is whether Fuente’s instant offensive impact has another act with a new cast in 2017.

: Are the Mountaineers a legit top-25 team? Holgorsen has expressed a lot of confidence in Grier, who did go 6-0 as Florida’s starter before his PED suspension, but WVU a handful of key contributors on both lines and two of its top receiving targets. The running back position is loaded, and Tony Gibson has done a great job with the defense in recent years, but like Virginia Tech, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered early to back up hype that seems to be more residual from last year’s 10-win season (the program’s best finish since joining the Big 12) than a projection of performance in 2017.

The good news for West Virginia is that this is nothing new. Entering his seventh season, Holgorsen has moved from being a hot name to temporarily flirting with the hot seat and now seems firmly entrenched with his system and people in place. This is a program where a postseason appearance is the floor and every few years they’ll creep up and challenge for the Big 12 title. These transition years after the peak seasons are always going to be interesting to track because West Virginia could very well be a top-25 team, but in a tough Big 12, that can only be determined by they how they perform against comparable foes from other power conferences, like Virginia Tech.

FedEx Field has been a house of horrors for Virginia Tech, but I think they’ll exorcise some demons in a game that should be much lower scoring than you’d think based on the offensive reputation of both coaches. Bud Foster has been scouting the one-back attack of WVU all summer and while I’m sure Holgo will have some wrinkles that can catch the Lunch Pail D off guard I favor the Hokies in that matchup against a first-time starter under center. It’s going to be a rock fight that probably ends on a field goal, so I’m taking the underdog but think Virginia Tech ultimately wins straight up.

College Football Power Rankings: It’s time to give Baylor some on-field respect

As October sneaks up on us, it’s time to dream a little.

In a little over a month, the Playoff Selection Committee will release its first set of rankings. That’s where the dreaming comes in.

If the playoff started today — per this week’s Power Rankings — two Big Ten teams would not only be in but would play each other.

Ohio State-Wisconsin would be a regular-season rematch. Louisville vs. Alabama would be the other semifinal. Tell me you wouldn’t hit the secondary market for tickets to those games.

Lamar Jackson vs. Alabama’s defense. Urban Meyer vs. Wisconsin with a chance to meet Nick Saban again.

This late-September fantasy was made possible by the Badgers moving up five spots after a fairly shocking win at Michigan State.

Other fast risers in this week’s Power Rankings were No. 14 Baylor (up nine spots), No. 17 Washington and No. 18 Utah (both up seven), and No. 16 Ole Miss (up five).

A tip of the headset to No. 25 Western Michigan for checking in with the MAC’s first appearance this season.

1 The best thing said about a 48-0 win over Kent State is Nick Saban didn’t humiliate his alma mater. The worst thing: Tailback Damien Harris and is day-to-day. Do we really need to be concerned? Harris’ replacement, freshman Joshua Jacobs, went for 97 yards and two touchdowns. –11-2 2 Bye. Deep breath after a monumental win at Oklahoma and the opening of the Big Ten season against Rutgers. –13-1 3 Perhaps only Alabama has accomplished more this season. The Badgers have beaten two top 10 teams (at kickoff) away from home. The latest win.The French midfielder has been plagued by injuries this season and he has been absent since returning from the international break this month. He has not played since the 4-1 win at Southampton at the beginning of the month with a series of hamstring, 30-6 over Michigan State, may have been the second-biggest Big Ten statement this season. (Ohio State over Oklahoma was first). 510-4 4 Lamar Jackson is on pace to account for 75 touchdowns. His season total went to 25 after going for seven against Marshall. Let’s put that in perspective. Seven teams scored less than 25 all of last season. Yikes! 18-5 5 Tom Herman had no mercy on his old employers at Texas State with a 64-3 win. The serious part of the schedule resumes Thursday with UConn, the only team to beat the Cougars last season. 14-8 6 The Tigers aren’t as dominating offensively, but they are a bitch defensively. Clemson goes into the Louisville game third nationally in total defense. Only five teams have given up fewer touchdowns than the Tigers’ five. –14-1 7 You never got the feeling UCLA had things wrapped up Saturday at Rose Bowl. The Cardinal led for less than nine minutes the whole game until Ryan Burns game-winning touchdown pass. Defensive end Solomon Thomas had an All-America performance (three tackles, a sack, two TFLs and a touchdown). –4-8 8 Trevor Knight had a Lamar Jackson-like performance vs. Arkansas — 382 total yards, four touchdowns. With a 21-point win, the Aggies are back in the top 10 for the first time since last year’s 5-0 start. This 4-0 start is the third consecutive matching the previous best run from 1939-41. 48-5 9 The Vols rid themselves of a 12-year hangover in beating the Gators. The difficult slate continues — at Georgia, at Texas A&M and Alabama in the next three weeks. 48-5 10 In Week 5, the Big Ten favorite (to some) plays its first ranked team (Wisconsin). To get there undefeated, the Wolverines forced two turnovers and recorded seven sacks against Penn State. –9-4 11 Nice get-well game by the Noles. Dalvin Cook woke up with 267 rushing yards en route to a clubbing of South Florida. Cook still has a ways to go to be the self-proclaimed best back in the game. The Noles remain an ACC sidebar with Clemson-Louisville this week. 36-7 12 Coming off the worst home loss since 2009, the Spartans must rebound quickly. “Now we’ll take some shots,” Mark Dantonio said after a 30-6 loss to Wisconsin. Ominous sign: That was also Michigan Sthave shifted shirt sponsors from Puma to Adidas. And Gunners stars Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have been pictured wearing the new kit.The design is inspired from the 1986 kit.Aubameyang and Lacazette with the new Arsenal kit for ate’s last losing season. 77-6 13 In a program that’s had a few notable running quarterbacks, Tommy Armstrong is making his mark. Armstrong went for a career-high 132 yards rushing in a workmanlike win at Northwestern. In the last two weeks, Armstrong has had 12 runs of at least 11 yards. 45-7 14 There’s a book somewhere to be done on the 2016 Bears. This Big 12 championship dream is gaining legs despite the firing of their coach. The Bears moved to 4-0 after beating Oklahoma State 35-24chance.Willians has impressed since getting the call this season from manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.Ryan said, “I just think Brandon is another inspiration for all the players. You’re always looking at the players ahead of you and, if you see someon. Ishmael Zamora in his first game since being suspended for beating his dog had a career-high 175 receiving yards. 911-3 15 Bye. Three nonconference wins over teams that are 3-9. Now comes big-boy football. ACC season opens this week at Georgia Tech. 16-7 16 That’s how you rebound. The SEC’s best quarterback, Chad Kelly, threw for 282 yards in routing Georgia to show the Rebels ain’t dead yet. Ole Miss hadn’t beaten Georgia in 10 years. 54-8 17 What did the Huskies expect after playing their first legitimate opponent? Washington survived in overtime at Arizona, 35-28. A first-team defense that hadn’t allowed a touchdown gave up four. Stanford comes to Washington on Friday in an early Pac-12 North showdown. 78-5 18 The Utes rallied back from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat USC. Quarterback Troy Williams, who grew up 15 minutes from USC, threw the winning touchdown pass with 16 seconds left. 711-3 19 That escalated quickly, didn’t it? One week after a coming-of-age win at Missouri, Jacob Eason and the Dawgs were run out of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium 45-14. There will be more days like this for Eason, a freshman (137 passing yards, three sacks). 1012-2 20 Fifth consecutive loss to Texas A&M (45-24) clouds the remainder of the season. The Hogs snapped it 20 times inside the Aggies’ 20 and came away with 17 points. Not enough. 92-10 21 Bye. Longhorns had a hand in the firing of Notre Dame defensive coordinator Brian Van Gorder. The 50 points against the Irish earlier this month was the only second time in 31 years Notre Dame’s D gave up at least half a hundred. 28-5 22 Never have the fortunes of a team switched so dramatically. Tennessee scored 38 straight Saturday to beat Gators for the first time in 12 years. Florida now needs help to win the East. 411-2 23 The 14-7 win at Rutgers was a 60-minute advertisement for Sominex. The Hawkeyes try to wake up this week against Northwestern. 310-3 24 Bye. Aztecs face New Year’s Six Group of Five competition from Navy, Air Force and Western Michigan. All are undefeated as well. 210-3 25 The Fightin’ Flecks have done something no Big Ten team has done so far — go 2-0 in the Big Ten. The Broncos have won at Northwestern and Illinois. Coach P.J. Fleck (20-10 since 2014) has to get a few calls this offseason, doesn’t he? NR7-6

WATCH: Butch Jones and the Vols sing Rocky Top for Peyton Manning

I feel very confident in my game. I’m not gocomplished without the ubiquitous outside linebacker. Greene quickly converges on running backs, sideline-to-sideline, is a menacing blitzer up the middle and looks more like a safety when dropping into pass coverage. In a 23-15 win over Syracuse on Oct. 13, Greene forced three fumbles, recorded 14 tackles, 1.5 sacks and intercepted a pass against the Orange. The senior has completely recovered from a he suffered in a 2011 Pinstripe Bowl win over Iowa State.
