How two was better than one all night for Alabama vs. Oklahoma in the 2018 Orange Bowl

content_img

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Heisman Trophy winner ran circles around the No. 1 team in the country on Saturday night in the Orange Bowl. Kyler Murray made spectacular downfield throws, dizzying, darting runs and looked like, well, a Heisman Trophy winner.

But his entire performance was a postmortem show. The death blow had been delivered long before Murray staetired from international football. The midfielder, who has been in four World Cup squads and won 80 caps, joined League One side Southend United in the summer from Scottish Premiership club Hibernian.”It has been a privilege to be involved with the Srted tearing apart No. 1 Alabama as the Tide took a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter. And it wasn’t just the Heisman runner-up who took it to No. 4 Oklahoma early and often at the start of the game. It was a player across the line of scrimmage who also has a case for being considered the best player in the country.

Tua Tagovailoa, lining up behind center, and Quinnen Williams, lining up in front of center on defense, gave the Sooners 17 minutes of hell. By the time OU had its footing, even six straight scoring possessions weren’t enough to erase the deficit Tagovailoa, Williams and their supporting cast had created.

The beauty of the performance of both Tagovailoa and Williams is the way they unlock the rest of Nick Saban’s mighty roster. Tagovailoa was masterful, almost perfect, completing 24-of-27 attempts for 318 yards passing with  four touchdowns and no interceptions. Wide receiver Devonta Smith was his favorite target, and he jabbed the Oklahoma defense with slants for 104 yards on six catches. In total, a 2018 team record nine players caught passes for the Tide, including backup quarterback Jalen Hurts.

By his own admission, Tagovailoa was only 80-85 percent healthy on Wednesday. About 72 hours later, he looked 100 percent by any human standard. He was active in the pocket, successful scrambling and precise as a passer. Even when he did experience his first serious contact on the Tide’s second drive of the game, he threw a touchdown pass one play later. After some injury-hampered outings against Mississippi State, Auburn and Georgia, Tua looks like Tua again, and the offense is back to juggernaut status.

Of course, Oklahoma has a way of bringing out the best in an opposing offense. This is, after all, the same Sooners team that gave up 40 to Kansas. It also has a tendency to bring out the worst in a deer became a regular in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.He said: “Of course it’s hard to get to a big team.“But then it’s harder to stay there because you are competing with a lot of footballers that are such hard workers.“When you get to the big clfense, though. It even made Alabama look very uncharacteristic on Saturday but not before Williams got his paws on it for 17 minutes.

During that decisive 28-0 start, Williams was dominant. Like Tagovailoa, Williams’s domination helped to spread the production around. He only had one tackle himself on the night, but he was creating chaos on nearly every snap in that first quarter.

Behind Williams and the rest of that Alabama defensive front, Oklahoma’s award-winning offensive line looked overmatched. It took a full quarter for that unit to adjust to the best defender in . By the time it did, Oklahoma had been outgained 200-24, giving up two sacks and going 0 for 3 on third down tries. And it was down by three touchdowns.

Alabama’s two stars were better than Oklahoma’s one. It’s two units — including a defense able to contain Murray, other Premier League sides want to sign Butland, but have been put off by Stoke’s valuation, according to the Birmingham Mail. The Potters want more than £20 million for the 25-year-old, which no one is willing to pay.Stoke boss Nathan Jones confirm if only for a quarter-plus — were better than one. Alabama was better than Oklahoma, and it was clear from the start that what we all expected rang true: The Sooners were good but flawed.

And in this era of college football, with Alabama and Clemson playing at such an elite level, flawed teams need not apply.

Stanford vs. Arizona State odds, line: Picks, predictions from proven expert who’s 8-1 on Sun Devils and Cardinal games

content_img

The Week 8 college football schedule includes an early dose of Pac-12 action on Thursday night when the host the at 9 p.m. ET. Stanford can keep pace with in the North Division with a victory, while the Sun Devils will take a needed step toward bowl eligibility if they pull off the upset. Stanford opened as a three-point favorite, but is laying 2.5 in the latest Stanford vs. Arizona State odds. The over-under, or total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, has shot up over a touchdown from 51.5 to 59. Before locking in your Stanford vs. Arizona State picks, listen to what SportsLine expert Emory Hunt has to say.

Hunt is the founder and CEO of Football Gameplan, which has been supplying analysis of all levels of football since 2007. The former running back joined SportsLine in 2016 and has put his stamp on .

His expertise has earned him the nickname “The Czar of the Playbook,” and Hunt already has spent endless hours breaking down the rosters of FBS clubs. With his Thursday night selection, he is looking to build on an incredible 8-1 mark on spread picks involving either Arizona State or Stanford. Anyone who has followed him is up big.

In Week 2 Hunt advised SportsLine members to back Stanford as a six-point favorite against rebuilding . The Cardinal defense led the way to a dominating 17-3 victory, and anyone who followed Hunt’s advice picked up an easy winner.

Now, Hunt has scrutinized Stanford vs. Arizona State from every possible angle to reveal a strong point-spread pick that he’s sharing only at SportsLine.

Hunt knows that in the early going, Stanford benefited from attacking defenking fresh investment in WolvesBirminghamLive reports the Chinese conglomerate took control of Wolves three years ago after buying out Steve Morgan and the club’s ascent towards the upper echelons of English football under their ownership has been rases that were prepared to limit the effectiveness of Heisman Trophy hopeful . The Cardinal took advantage of single coverage and quarterback K.J. Costello made several big plays in the passing game. Costello is fourth in the Pac-12 with 1,611 passing yards and is completing 62.6 percent of Callum Hudson-Odoi says England players now feel empowered to walk off the pitch after the disgraceful scenes in Sofia on Monday.England’s 6-0 win over Bulgaria had to be stop twice as racist chants sounded across the stadium. And Hudson-Odoi says thehis attempts.

But Stanford has been hampered by the lingering ankle injury to Love, who was limited in the loss to and sat out last week’s loss to . Without Love, the Cardinal mustered just 42 rushing yards against the physical Utes. Love is listed as questionable for Thursday night’s game.

Stanford beat Arizona State by 10 last year, but that doesn’t guarantee it will cover Thursday against a Sun Devils club that is looking for a turnaround of its own.

Hunt also knows many observers questioned the offseason hiring of former coach Herm Edwards to lead ASU, but he did a lot to silence doubters in the early season. In Week 2, ths in doubt. The Mirror says City are yet to start talks with the £48million defender about a new contract.Stones, 25, expected to be offered fresh terms by City this season, with two years left on his current deal. But negotiations have still not stare Sun Devils knocked off Big Ten contender 16-13 as a six-point home underdog. That same Michigan State team beat on the road last Saturday.

In its last outing, Arizona State (3-3) took previously-unbeaten to the wire before the Buffaloes prevailed 28-21.

We can tell you Hunt is leaning toward the Under, but he has identified the crucial X-factor that makes one side of the spread a must-back. He’s only sharing it at SportsLine.

Virginia Tech vs. West Virginia prediction, pick, odds, watch live stream, TV channel

content_img

For years, the Black Diamond Trophy was awarded to the winner of and , border rivals and bitter conference rivals during their days in the Big East. The two squads haven’t played since 2005, and an offseason full of smack talk has added to the hype for this Sunday night showdown at FedEx Field in Landover, Md..

Both teams enter 2017 with e’s unsure of his next move. While his father has pushed for a switch to Napoli, James is said to be eager to hear from Manchester United before making a final decision. In Brazil for the Copa America, the Colombia captain said: “I do not know, I have new starting quarterbacks — redshirt freshman for Tech, former quarterback for the Mountaineers — and VT comes into it after winning 10 games and finishing in the top 25 a year ago, starting this season in the preseason poll. Dana Holgorsen and Justin Fuente both ascended the coaching ranks as well-respected offensive coordinators, and this game is expected to be very informative in terms of how each team has handled the turnover and whether either squad is primed to make a run at the favorites in their respective conferences.

Storylines

: Hokie fans seemed to know the names of all the offensive staff members prior to Justin Fuente’s arrival — and not for good reasons. The slide from winning ACC Coastal Division and cor Mikel Arteta admits that he needs to get into the Champions League to sign better players. The Gunners are among several teams that are trying to find a route into the top four in the Premier League.Given they are out of theback Juan Miranda.RAC1 says Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici is in Barcelona today for negotiations over Miranda.Juve have offered Daniele Rugani as part of the deal. However, Olympique Marseille remain ahead of the Bianconeri as they want to tak Europa League, the leagunference titles to fighting for bowl eligibility was defined by an offense that could never get on the same page and produce consistently across an entire season. Logan Thomas and Michael Brewer each had games — and moments in games — where everything was clicking. Bud Foster’s Lunch Pail Defense was complemented by an offense that could go toe-to-toe with anyone in the country. But there were also moments, like this one against in 2014, that haunt Virginia Tech fans to this day.

Fuente brought a strong offensive reputation with him and quickly put his system in with a first-year starter in , who meshed well with some proven pieces already on the roster (, to name a few) and went on to break or tie 10 offensive school records on the way to a Coastal Division title and the program’s first 10-win season since 2011. The defense still looks loaded, so the main intrigue is whether Fuente’s instant offensive impact has another act with a new cast in 2017.

: Are the Mountaineers a legit top-25 team? Holgorsen has expressed a lot of confidence in Grier, who did go 6-0 as Florida’s starter before his PED suspension, but WVU a handful of key contributors on both lines and two of its top receiving targets. The running back position is loaded, and Tony Gibson has done a great job with the defense in recent years, but like Virginia Tech, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered early to back up hype that seems to be more residual from last year’s 10-win season (the program’s best finish since joining the Big 12) than a projection of performance in 2017.

The good news for West Virginia is that this is nothing new. Entering his seventh season, Holgorsen has moved from being a hot name to temporarily flirting with the hot seat and now seems firmly entrenched with his system and people in place. This is a program where a postseason appearance is the floor and every few years they’ll creep up and challenge for the Big 12 title. These transition years after the peak seasons are always going to be interesting to track because West Virginia could very well be a top-25 team, but in a tough Big 12, that can only be determined by they how they perform against comparable foes from other power conferences, like Virginia Tech.

Prediction

FedEx Field has been a house of horrors for Virginia Tech, but I think they’ll exorcise some demons in a game that should be much lower scoring than you’d think based on the offensive reputation of both coaches. Bud Foster has been scouting the one-back attack of WVU all summer and while I’m sure Holgo will have some wrinkles that can catch the Lunch Pail D off guard I favor the Hokies in that matchup against a first-time starter under center. It’s going to be a rock fight that probably ends on a field goal, so I’m taking the underdog but think Virginia Tech ultimately wins straight up.

WATCH: Bo Scarbrough’s touchdown run is even more terrifying at field level

content_img

running back evened the score in the Playoff semifinal at the Peach Bowl against by rumbling in for an 18-yard touchdown. It was an impressive run with plenty of broken tackles, but it looks even more terrifying at field level.

Here’s another look…

Scarbrough had 33 yaridfielder Youri Tielemans is enjoying his football under manager Brendan Rodgers.Tielemans signed permanently in the summer from AS Monaco. He said, “When Brendan took the team over, from the first day he was amazing with us. “He understood the club lds oier League should persist with VAR.Wenger has recently taken up a role with FIFA as chief of global football development, and gave his thoughts on the video technology being used to help match officials. And he pinpointed the lack of referral by refern just three carries on the nine-play touchdown drive. College football winners and losers in Week 12: Believe it, Colorado is for real

content_img

Don’t look now, but the Big Ten isn’t the only Power Five conference that promises to have a fantastic finish. The Pac-12 would like to have a word.

The Apple Cup between and still has huge implications while — yes, Colorado — can wrap up the Pac-12 South with a win over in Week 13. Little was decided in the playoff race this week except for a few teams — and chief among them — gracefully removing themselves from the conversation.

Oh, yeah, and . Oh no, Texas.

With so much action going on around the country, we here at CBS Sports want to get you caught up on all the noteworthy things that went down — both the good and not so good. What were the highlights from Week 12? What were the moments some programs want to forget? We hash out the best and worst below.

Colorado’s sudden rise back to the top of has been one of the feel-good stories of the season. A doormat for the past decade, the once-proud program finally turned a corner under coach Mike MacIntyre. At first, the Buffs made good on that turnaround by achieving bowl eligibility. But then they kept winning, and a 38-24 victory over red-hot Washington State — by far the game of the day — completely changed the narrative. This is no longer just a nice story; Colorado is a legitimate team with a real chance to win the Pac-12 South, maybe more.

Full disclosure: I like Strong and I haven’t met a reporter or fan who doesn’t. I also think Strong is a good coach. He transformed Louisville from a flaming RV of a program to one that churned out -caliber talent and won a lot of games. He has the respect of guys like Steve Spurrier, Urban Meyer and Lou Holtz. Those things count for something. But Strong can’t lose to 24-21 in overtime in Year 3 … and he especially can’t do that by blowing a fourth-quarter lead and having his team turn the ball over six times. Exactly when Texas opts to pull the cord on Strong is less important if only because it’s inevitable now that it will. Given that Strong was never a recipient of the boosters’ full support, it’s probably best the two sides part ways.

It’s been a minute since McCaffrey has been talked about, but he hasn’t had the Heisman Trophy-like year he was expected to have and Stanford experienced a bit of a drop-off. That’s nothing Cal’s run defense can’t fix, though! The dynamic playmaker rushed for a career-high 284 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-31 win over the Golden Bears. It’s probably too late to earn him a trip to New York for the Heisman ceremony, but it was good to see McCaffrey do his thing again.

The Gators won their second straight SEC East title with a starting lineup made of duct tape, some wire and a flimsy piece of cheap gauze. They go to Atlanta — likely to get torn apart by a much better, deeper and healthier — because they beat 16-10 on a . It was not pretty; in fact, it was the opposite. The win counted all the same, though. And the Gators did all of this in the face of heavy criticism for refusing to play the previously-scheduled game against the Tigers on Oct. 8 because of reasons they felt were justified related to Hurricane Matthew. Others /looks directly at LSU/ and tensions boiled over into a . Through all the drama, one side was going to come out look good and the other not so good. Florida happened to come out on the good side.

As for LSU? “,” Gators coach Jim McElwain said.

Buried, but not totally lost in everything else that happened Saturday was LSU’s decision to allow star running back to suit up against the Gators. Reports before the game indicated Fournette, who has been nursing a nagging ankle injury all season, . But he suited up anyway in what appeared to be a change-of-heart after the pre-game confrontation in which he shoved a Gators assistant. He rushed for 40 yards on 12 carries, didn’t score and wasn’t given the ball when the Tigers needed one yard to win the game. And now he’s worse off with LSU vying for a mid-tier bowl bid.

How can a team win and still lose? Ohio State is in a tough spot. It got a hard-earned 17-16 win over with the final score reflecting a failed two-point conversion. However, it doesn’t control its divisional destiny. A win over in Week 13 means nothing in the conference title hunt if beats Michigan State. Would the College Football Playoff Selection Committee still give the Buckeyes a spot as a non-conference champion? We might have a couple of weeks to debate the possibility, though it would seem Ohio State has a shot.

If you haven’t seen Carrington’s spectacular game-winning catch against Utah, you can change that by viewing the video below. Carrington’s catch didn’t just win the game, it might have won the season for the beleaguered Ducks. There hasn’t been much to cheer about and coach Mark Helfrich’s job status has been a point of uncertainty. However, there’s promise at quarterback with freshman Justin Herbert, and Carrington’s touchdown grab, which capped off an impressive drive, shows there’s still heart on this team. Another win and Oregon can go into 2017 with some confidence that the program isn’t in shambles like it’s been projected.

This was shaping up to be a rough year in Lubbock, but did anyone expect a 66-10 loss to ? That’s a low point for coach Kliff Kingsbury, maybe the low point. Quietly, the Cyclones have steadily improved under first-year coach Matt Campbell, but they never had the win to show for it. That’s changed and the Red Raiders have an embarrassing box score to show for it. It’s the third time this year Tech has given up at ler Real Madrid and Argentina star Jorge Valdano has claimed. The Manchester City boss has won titles in England, Spain and Germany, and his famous ‘tiki-taka’ style has been replicated all over the world. And Valdano thinks the Catalan has a “God-like”east 60 points, a bowl game is out of the picture and a season-ending game against is for pride only.

The senior passed a former Pirates wideout, Justin Hardy, to break the FBS record for all-time career catches in a loss to . Hardy ended the day with 12 receptions, putting him with 392 catches for his career. It’s been a disappointing season for the Pirates, but they now have a comfortable spot in the record books with two top-tier pass-catchers.

Coach Butch Jones can . This was a disappointing season given the expectations. Yes, the Vols sustained a rash of injuries that would test any depth chart’s structural integrity. Yes, playing the October from Hell with games against Texas A&M and Alabama stunk. But with this roster that talented and a bad SEC East, there was no reason why Tennessee should not have won the division. Yet, with its own patchwork team, Florida managed to do it, and the Vols’ 63-37 win over hardly seems like a good consolation prize.

There were a lot of records broken today, but Cook surpassing Warrick Dunn for FSU’s all-time career rushing yardage is special. Cook needed 18 yards to bypass the Seminole great and did so easily with 225 yards in a 45-14 win over . The junior now has 4,166 yards for his career and counting.

Oklahoma State’s loss to happened. It’s in the record books and everything. It shouldn’t have happened since the game officials and replay officials botched the untimed down that gave CMU the chance at a successful Hail Mary-lateral, but it happened all the same. Now that Oklahoma State sits at 9-2 thanks to a big win over and on the verge of a possible Big 12 title, . What does the playoff committee do? So far, there have been no signs the Cowboys have a shot at the final four. But if things get weird elsewhere, it at least opens up a conversation that should include this team.

The 55-year-old — yes,n be proud of their stars in the Premier League. Both Ederson and Alisson are first choice keepers for their clubs but it’s the Liverpool shot-stopper who is the regular starter for Brazil.”I think it’s a good sign for all the goalkeepers in Brazil an 55 — made by becoming the oldest player to see South KoreaFormer Manchester United star Ji-Sung Park, and Tottenham star Heung-Min Son are donating to their country’s coronavirus fight.South Korea is one of the most heavily impacted nations from the outbreak, which originated in China.Park and Sthe field. Thomas made that history on senior day (save your jokes, please) with a three-yard rush (he finished with four rushes for -1 yard). Thomas is the father of linebacker Joe Thomas Jr., who also went to South Carolina State.

It was a long shot, but Louisville still had playoff hopes entering Week 12. No more. A 36-10 blowout loss to coupled with ‘s win over seals the Cardinals’ postseason fate. All is not lost, however. remains a frontrunner for the Heisman and 10 (or even 11) wins is still in the cards (no pun intended). But how different things could have looked for Louisville if this week had gone another way.

Coach Craig Bohl has done a remarkable job of turning Wyoming not only into a respectable program, but an actual threat within the Mountain West. The Cowboys picked up a signature win over , the ending of which featured compelling drama with a tipped touchdown pass and a failed two-point conversion by the Aztecs. If Wyoming (8-3) beats next, it will go to the conference championship game. Yes, over .

Scratch the Mountaineers off the longshot playoff list, too. Hosting was paraded as West Virginia’s biggest game since joining the Big 12. And what did the ‘Eers do? Oh, nothing, just got blasted 56-28 in a game that was over by the first quarter. This has been an overachieving season in Morgantown, no doubt. Get two more victories and West Virginia will have its first 10-win season since coach Dana Holgorsen’s first year in 2011. As for its ability to compete with the Big 12’s best, though? West Virginia, save for ‘s 331-yard effort, fell short in a big way.

Clemson quietly wrapped up the ACC Atlantic by handling Wake Forest 35-13 — presumably without the help of the Demon Deacons’ game plan . After the stunning loss to Pitt the week before, the Tigers could use a Saturday away from the spotlight. Assuming Clemson wins its next two games — against and a TBD opponent in the ACC Championship Game — it will be in the playoff easily, and the Pitt loss will be but a minor hiccup.

Last week, I implored top-25 voters to because the Trojans were 8-1 and the lone loss was by six points to Clemson. I should have guessed would get beat 35-3 by thanks to a hefty helping of five turnovers. Never mind. Don’t listen to us.

Way back at the beginning of the season, I at Kansas’ expense when some Jayhawk fans tried to rush the field and were promptly told to return to their seats. The good news is Kansas fans have learned how to properly celebrate a huge win. They successfully tore down a goal post and carried it off the field. That’s called evolving, folks.

It will likely get lost in all the games and upsets, but Notre Dame officially all but officially lost out on bowl eligibility with a 34-31 loss to . But it’s not just that; the Irish blew what was a 24-7 lead and allowed 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. If you’re going go out, that’s a hell of a way to do it.

Rape victim calls for Baylor to ‘shut down football’

content_img

The outrage inside Brenda Tracy bubbles up regularly. Baylor has seen to that lately.

The 42-year-old single mother of two young adult sons was pacing around her suburban Portland apartment last week — agitated — after she heard the news.

Tracy has no direct connection to the Baylor scandal — Art Briles being all but fired, blamed for enabling a culture of sexual assault that an independent report concluded had gone on for years.

She has no connection, yet she has every connection. Since the age of nine, Tracy says she has been raped by five different men. Two of them were Oregon State football players 17 years ago in Corvallis, Oregon. None has been brought to justice.

When the anger subsided last Thursday, Tracy came to a new realization.

“I live in this world,” she concluded, “where Baylor is the norm.”

You will be hearing a lot more about Tracy in the near future. Mark Emmert already has an , asking for the being called up.The Brazilian is in the process of securing a Spanish passport after declaring he’d like to play for La Roja.Moreno said, “Gabriel Paulista is processing his passport but right now he cannot be called up. When he gets his Spanish passNCAA to take the lead on sexual assault at its colleges.

Her story, revealed in late 2014, is a sad, graphic reminder the Baylor scandal doesn’t end at the entrance to Baylor. It bores into the minds of the assaulted who have to relive their own horrific details.

“I’ll tell you what should happen and it will be highly controversial,” Tracy said during a Monday phone interview.

Tracy says she was drugged and raped by four men at an off-campus party in Corvallis in 1998. The two Oregon State players involved were suspended for a game by then-coach that have emerged stating that he will be leading his country for the upcoming Nations League semi-final against the Netherlands. The Colossal Sports Management company issued a statement on Tuesday evening stating the City star will lead out his couMike Riley and made to do community service.

Her rape kit along with mountains of evidence — the players implicated each other — was eventually destroyed, gone forever when the statute of limitations ran out.

and incredible bravery by Tracy in November 2014, her story was hidden.

Now she wants her account used as a template for curing the scourge of sexual assault in college athletics. It starts with Baylor.

“I think they need to get rid of everybody and shut down the football program for one year. I think they need to start over [at Baylor],” Tracy said. “Otherwise, they’re just trying to put a Band-Aid on it. What did we learn from Penn State?”

A death penalty or even something resembling the Penn State penalties in the Sandusky scandal appears unlikely. Baylor is already in the rebuilding stage. It has fired Briles, reassigned president Ken Starr and seen athletic director Ian McCaw resign (while on probation). Jim Grobe has been hired as acting coach.

Football will go on. Baylor is moving on. The lives of the afflicted are damaged forever. Tracy is a shining example.

“To me, rape is the attempted murder of your spirit and your soul. …

I suffered, wanting to kill myself pretty much every day for 16 years and couldn’t because I had children,” she said. “I hated myself. I didn’t want to be inside my own body. Nightmares. PTSD. Weight and eating [problems]. I was a broken person. I didn’t want to be like that anymore.”

That’s before she emailed Canzano out of desperation. That’s before Oregon State president Ed Ray saw the story and not only apologized to her face-to-face but hired her as a consultant.

(That’s the same Ed Ray, it should be noted, who spearheaded the precedent-setting penalties against Penn State 2012 as a member of the NCAA’s executive committee.)

That was before Tracy was told that at least some of her assailants are living comfortably somewhere in California. She suspects they continue to torment her, leaving comments at the bottom of stories currently being written about her.

“The person writing the comments ha[s] details that I know it’s got to be one of them or a family member,” Tracy said. “[They say] I’ve ruined their lives and hurt them.

“I always say, ‘If you don’t like your part in the story, you should have played a better part.'”

Tracy’s story begins to explain a mystery of sexual assault — some victims don’t cooperate with law enforcement. At the time, she was confused, ashamed, hurt – in more ways than one. The nurse who oversaw Tracy’s post-rape exam told the Oregonian it was “among the most disturbing sex-assault exams I’ve ever administered.”

A flashlight was one of the pieces of evidence, according to the police report.

“That’s the thing that frustrates me the most,” she said. “I’ll have commentators and trolls online and they’ll say, ‘Brenda get over it. That happened 17 years ago.'”

It took until six years ago for Tracy to even tell her oldest son what had happened. where he is.The striker continues to be linked with European champions Liverpool. The 23-year-old has a £50million release clause in his contract and various reports have indicated that Jurgen Klopp’s side are expected to trigger it in a bid to brin They sat in her car in the driveway with Tracy sobbing, ‘I’m so sorry.’

Sorry?

She was already saddled with the memory of being assaulted by a family member between ages two and five. Tracy said a babysitter’s boyfriend raped her when she was nine.

“I felt if I said anything he’d kill me,” she said. “I didn’t say anything.”

Since the assault occurred off campus, Oregon State officials weren’t prepared (back then) for how to go forward. Tracy says she got two death threats.

“Nothing has changed in 17 years since I was raped. Baylor is another example, and it’s not the only school that is doing this,” she said. “How do I change this culture?”

Tracy has found new purpose in life since unloading her story to a sports columnist. She has been responsible for five new laws combating sexual assault in the state of Oregon. One of them extends the statute of limitations from six to 12 years in sexual assault cases.

With her help, the Pac-12 was encouraged to adopt a transfer rule. The SEC voted in a similar version. No school can take a transfer with serious misconduct issues.

Next month, she will be at Nebraska to speak to Riley and his players. Riley had promised to meet her when her story emerged at Oregon State. Shortly thereafter, he left for Lincoln, Nebraska.

In this story of betrayal, a promise has been kept. But Tracy’s biggest questions that day will be reserved for a quiet, private meeting with the coach. How much did Riley know about her assault when he gave those two players only a one-game suspension?

“It’s me being able to face my demons,” Tracy said. “This has been something that has plagued me for years. … In a selfish way, I’m hoping this trip helps me heal.”

So after a life of torment and pain, is there room for something close to forgiveness?

“Even if [Riley] did know and was complicit, such as the coach at Baylor,” Tracy said, “sometimes what happens in the past is not as important as what is moving forward.”

WATCH: Navy QB Keenan Reynolds ties NCAA all-time rushing TD record

content_img

Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds is a bad, bad man.

In his fourth year at the helm for the Midshipmen, Reynolds tied Montees past season is due to the opposition playing defensively at Selhurst Park.Lewington also says some teams underestimate them on their own turf.He said, “I think it’s the opposition. The opposition come to us and at [their] home obviously they’ve got Ball’s all-time NCAA rushing touchdown record on this one-yard sneak on 4th-and-goal.

If you’re waiting to see the strangest play of this weekend in college football, he Northern Echo says the midfielder is one of a number of players currently in discussions with Newcastle officials over a new deal. While the ongoing talks with Sean and Matty Longstaff have hogged the headlines, the Magpies hierarchy are hoping to I don’t think you’ll have to look much further than here.

Louisiana-Monroe AD: We can be the Gonzaga of football

content_img

MONROE, La. — The gritty little Sun Belt school that was the talk of the college football world last September, the , is hoping to show it’s a lot more than just a check-cashing bunch.

Truth is, after knocking off Arkansas (ranked eighth in the country at the time) last season, and coming within 10 points of beating both Auburn and Baylor, Todd Berry’s program has already proven that. ULM’nder Issa Diop says Europe is a realistic target this season. After seeing West Ham waste opportunities to finish in the top seven last year, the No23 wants to avoid the same mistakes this time around.“Europe qualification has to be our target, it hs stunner in Arkansas, rallying from being down 28-7, wasn’t the first time the Louisiana school beat an SEC team. In 2007, ULM beat Nick Saban’s Alabama squad, a 25-point favorite, but since then things have really cranked up for the most efficient program in .

ULM’s motto — Put a Ball Down (as in let’s just go play football) — is everywhere when you show up at the school’s modest practice site. After last season, the identity has taken root.

“We can be the Gonzaga of football,” ULM AD Brian Wickstrom said Thursday.

On Saturday, when Louisiana-Monroe — the school once known as Northeast Louisiana — opens at No. 16 Oklahoma, it’ll be the Warhawks’ sixth consecutd was refuted Jose Mourinho claims that he copied Antonio Conte’s system to beat Tottenham on Sunday.Lampard’s 3-4-2-1 formation worked to perfection against Spurs, allowing his side to dominate the first-half and claim a 2-0 victory.Mourinho praisedive opener facing a ranked opponent. It’ll also provide little ULM a robust $1 million, money vital for the program with the smallest budget in all of FBS.

The Warhawks will make a total of $1.9 million for their three nonconference games this fall against the Sooners, Baylor and Wake Forest. In 2014, they’ll pocket $3.1 million to face a trio of SEC opponents — LSU, Texas A&M and Kentucky. The negotiating process for the games has more to do with travel than toughness of the task, meaning trekking to Lexington, Ky., costs more than bussing four or five hours to Baton Rouge or turned down a move to Newcastle last month, despite Lille accepting an offer for him in the final week of the winter market. The Toon’s proposal was for a fee rising to €60m.Newcastle, reports Le 10 Sport, are ready to try again and have turned Sr College Station. The price tag for long-range games is usually much steeper, factoring in escalators for inflation, Wickstrom pointed out.

To say ULM is making do with less would be an understatement that doesn’t do justice to the ever-widening gap between the Have-a-Lots and the Have-Almost-Nothings in the sport. Until last year, ULM didn’t even have the same number of full-time assistant coaches as the rest of FBS. There is also no training table for ULM football players. There are no fancy dorms. There is no airplane recruiting for ULM coaches. No private planes, where coaches hop on some smaller jet to see prospects. The staff hasn’t boarded a single plane of any kind to see anyone. Nothing.

“Some of our assistant don’t even have real offices. They’re in converted closets,” Wickstrom admitted. “When a coach has a recruit on campus, they can’t take a kid into their office.”

Asked about amenities like the famous Oregon waterfall, Berry jokes that ULM’s idea of a perk for the players is giving them popsicles after a steamy day of camp. “Although,” he added, “I’m not sure that’s such a bad thing.”

The Warhawks have embraced the “Put a Ball Down” blue-collar persona. Their leader, lefty QB Kolton Browning — son of Karl and Panda (yes that’s his mom’s given name) — is from a tiny Texas town of 2,700. ULM was Browning’s only offer until Tulsa tried to swoop in late to grab him, but the formerly skinny three-sport star thought it wouldn’t be right to break his commitment.

Berry says Browning won over teammates with his grit playing through pain. “He broke his sternum in 2011 and they saw him keep playing and grimace every time he got hit,” Berry said.

Browning winced every time he threw a pass too. He never missed a game.

“We don’t necessarily need all the nice things,” Browning said. “Just give us some pads and we’ll be happy to go play football.”

A gifted dual-threat quarterback with 4.6 speed in the 40, Browning packed on 15 pounds this offseason to better withstand the pounding. There is also plenty of talent and experience around him. ULM has 18 starters back from last year’s 8-5 team. The Warhawks also are technically the most experienced team in the country, with 440 games started among their returning players (Ga. Tech is second with 426), according to Colorado SID Dave Plati, who researched the note.

Still, the Warhawks are a 23.5-point underdog against the Sooners. Another upset would do wonders for the ULM program financially. Just being competitive probably would too.

“This is the most critical year for ULM in the history of the school,” Wickstrom said. “Last year we opened people’s eyes, but now can we get people to buy in and start writing checks that’ll give us chance to build the momentum?”

The school hopes it can land the gift that’ll help lead to the development of a football facility, where ULM would have a real locker room, coaches’ offices and meeting rooms, like the rest of the FBS.

VIDEO: Butch Jones talks Tennessee class, 2013 season

content_img

The recruiting services are not all that high on Butch Jones’ first class at Tennessee, particularly by SEC standards. For example, the place the Vols at 25th nationally, 11th in the ted striker Romelu Lukaku. The Mirror says United have rejected a £54million bid for Lukaku.Inter Milan made the offer ahead of this afternoon’s match but did not meet United’s asking price. They are likely to return with a new bid in the coming days.SEC.

That hasn’t kept Jones from being fired up, especially after like four-star quarterback .

Here he talks to Jeremy Fowler and Bruce Feldman as part of online broadcast, about both his new recruiting class and what he’s looking for in the 2013 season:

Some Jones quotes from the above video:

“An interesting day to say the least and an interesting recruiting process. I’m really proud of the coaches””The big thing is you caatch and fined £50,000 after an FA commission accepted he “did not intend” a tweet about team-mate Benjamin Mendy to be “racist”.Silva compared Mendy to the character on a packet of Conguitos – a chocolate brand available in Spain and Portugal.Silvan’t put a value on experience, especially in taking over programs. The great thing, too, is that a lot of our staff has been with me for a while now. This is our third time going through this, so we wanted to make sure that this first class was filled with character guys who fit in with our core values.””You win with consistency and you win with continuity. A lot of these individuals are going on their third strength coach. They’re going on their fifth position coaches.””This staff assembled 12 signees, but eight of those 12 were committed elsewhere. So we were behind in establishing those relationships.””We may be the only program in the United States of America to have two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, so for us to get Riley Ferguson and Josh Dobbs was really big for us. “Everybody wants to judge recruiting classes, but they will be judged two, maybe three years down the road.””Riley Ferguson is extremely competitive. I believe he’s only lost one high school game as a quarterback. He’s really athletic. Josh Dobbs is really cerebral and these guys have the skill set that can bring a lot of competition to the position. As you know, you can never have too mantoe in his left foot. It’s been revealed the Spaniard was working in the gym, doing extra work, until a weight fell on his foot, which gave him the fracture in his toe, reports Marca. The length of time that Lucas will miss remains unknown, but he willy quarterbacks.”

Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly prepared if NFL offers come

When asked about the NFL for the first time on Saturday, Kelly said NFL teams would have to contact his agent to show interest but that .

I was able to circle back with Kelly about the intrigue of the , which, according to , has Kelly on its radar.

“How can you not be [intrigued]?” Kelly said. “When ys to put their feet up for the looming winter break. The winter break and general player fatigue are subjects addressed this weekend by Lampard, and he starts by detailing plans for the free fortnight if there is no replay against FA Cup opponents Hulou’ve coached football, you look at everything — you look at high school film and you watch coaches there, college, Division III to Division I, it doesn’t matter, college, NFL. All of that stuff intrigues me. I still think it comes down to time and place. What is the right time, and what is the right place? I never take any of that off the board.”

Kelly’s a smart guy. He knows might call after the game, win or lose, right?

“My agent would get a call, he’d run it by me, andn Klopp plans to use some fresh legs in Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Genk. The Reds take on Premier League title rivals Manchester City on Sunday.”We will hopefully have a couple of fresh legs in,” he said at his pre-match press conference.”I we’d go from there,” he said. “But, again, time and place.”

Is the right time and place next week, after the game?

“Time and place,” said a smiling Kelly as he walked off.

Kelly has a sweet job, the Irish have a chance to be really good next season and the coach’s popularity is growing in South Bend after three yeaull off the ultimate comeback against Barcelona on Tuesday night. The Reds are down 3-0 after the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.But Dalglish is backing the Merseyside club to overturn the deficit. He told the Sunday Post: “Of course, irs. But he has nothing to lose by at least having fun with the NFL thing. And it sounds like he’s being honest about the situation, playing the fairway between overstating allegiance to Notre Dame and overselling the NFL.

He has been a college lifer. But his personality would translate well to the NFL, and I think he knows it. Doesn’t mean he acts on it now.

After the season that the Irish had, Kelly will get more money next year regardless. So I’m not sure he needs to angle publicly for something like that. He’s just being honest — the NFL intrigues him.
