4 things to watch in the AFC wild card race and Bills-Dolphins this weekend

content_img

It all comes down to the final weekend for the Bills. They’ve got a bona fide shot to end their 17-season playoff drought with their first meaningful final regular season game in 13 years.

Here are some things to keep an eye on this weekend as the Bills head south to play the Dolphins:

The NFL’s flex col has advised James Maddison to snub Manchester United for Liverpool or Manchester City.Nicol believes the Leicester City star could stagnate his career at Old Trafford, in a similar vein to Paul Pogba. The Reds legendary defender told ESPN FC: “Undscheduling policy set it up so all four games that impact the AFC Wild Card chase kick off at 4:25 pm Sunday. So, Bills fans will be busy tracking all four games at once. If they all go Buffalo’s way (all of them don’t have to) here are some reasons why. Remember Buffalo needs to win and a Baltimore loss or a Tennessee loss and a Los Angeles Chargers loss.

They just did two weeks ago in Orchard Park. The Dolphins have already been eliminated from playoff contention. Tyrod Taylor has had his best games against Miami. Cincinnati may want to “win it for Marvin” if indeed it is Marvin Lewis’ last game as head coach. In his last three games in Baltimore, Andy Dalton has averaged 322 yards passing per game, with 5 touchdowns and 1 interception. WR A.J. Green has played four games in his career at Baltimore and has a total of 579 receiving yards with 4 touchdowns.

Jacksonville has the third ranked defense in the NFL. The Jaguars are looking for revenge after losing to Tennessee earlier this season. Jacksonville QB Blake Bortles owns the Titans – he has thrown 9 TDs and 1 INT in his last three games at Tennessee, and averaged 332 yards per game.

The Raiders have won 4 of their last 5 against the Chargers. Raiders Coach Jack Del Rio is 6-3 lifetime against the Chargers. “Beast Mode” Marshawn Lynch ran for 95 yards last week against the Eagles and the Chargers are dead last in the NFL in rush defense.

**

You hear the cliché “coming up big” a lot in the hockey world. With the magnitude of the game in Miami Sunday, there are a couple of Bills who can be serious difference makers in the season finale:

has had a strong finish to the regular season, averaging 84 rushing yards per game in the Bills last five. He’s got three touchdowns in those five games, two of them against Miami a couple of weeks ago. McCoy has a knack for making Dolphin defenders (and others) miss in space and he seems to have a personal grudge with Miami LB Kiko Alonso who he was traded for three years ago.

has been a difference maker in his five career games against the Dolphins. He’s won three of those five, and he’s completed 65-percent of his passes in those matchups. Taylor has 9 TD passes and 0 INTs against the Dolphins over the years, and he’s run for two touchdowns also.

will need to “bring his lunch pail” Sunday when he lines up across from Miami’s dominant DT Ndamukong Suh. It should be a familiar feeling—he just went to battle two weeks ago in Buffalo and Ducasse held his own. Offensive line coach Juan Castillo was singing Ducasse’s praises after the Miami win but it won’t be any easier this weekend. Suh can take over a game with his sheer strength and unnatural quickness. It won’t be entirely on Ducasse’s shoulders, but he’ll play a big role in how much room Shady has to run and how much time Taylor has to throw.

The Bills will finish ahead of Miami and the Jets in the AFC Eden Hazard. The Mirror says Hazard is on his way to Real Madrid after the Spanish giants agreed an initial £88million deal with Chelsea .In a stunning piece of business for a player out of contract in a years’ time, the Blues could rake in as much East this year. They’ve locked up second place in the division for the second time in four years. They’re this year’s first runner-up in the division the Patriots seemingly own.

But Buffalo has a chance to finish the division with a 3-3 record with a win on Sunday. And they get their final crack at beating a division rival in the second match-up of the year. They lost previous rematches this year to the Jets and the Patriots.

**

Right before kickoff Sunday, look at the field at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. It could look a little worn out.

At 8 pm Saturday, the Miami Hurricanes play Wisconsin in the Orange Bowl at Hard Rock. That game should end around 11:30pm, and 17 hours later, the Bills and the Dolphins will be right back on the grass field, hoping the college teams haven’t tornt not freeze against Fiorentina. The Grifone go head-to-head with the Viola, who could also still be relegated, but need to get a better result than Empoli manage away to Inter Milan to stay up. Prandelli said, “It’s marvellous to see and feeling th it up too much.

The Dolphins have recently installed Platinum TE natural grass on the field at home, but they’ve had some issues with it in the past.

Dolphins radio color commentator Joe Rose, a former Miami tight end, says if it doesn’t rain Saturday night the field should be OK. Should be.

“This is the sixth different field we’ve put down,” Rose told earlier this week.

“We’re fine as long as we don’t get any rain the night before, when the big guys from Wisconsin and the big guys from the Miami Hurricanes are out there. Quick turnaround–we’ve had some of those games when it’s been rough.”

The weather forecast calls for clear skies with only a 10-percent chance of rain Saturday night and Sunday in Miami. And that’s good, according to Rose.

“It has been a struggle for the Dolphins trying to get the right turf that can handle back to back games when it’s raining,” he says.

LaDainian Tomlinson believes LeSean McCoy will be rejuvenated in Buffalo

content_img

Two premier running backs, both of whom have led the league in rushing. Multiple Pro Bowl appearances. Workhorse backs for playoff times.

The Bills LeSean McCoy and retired great LaDainian Tomlinson have had similar career paths in the NFL. And Tconfident signing Watford defender Marc Navarro. The Watford Observer says the Spanish club still expect the deal to go through, but that a hold up from the Hornets is currently slowing things down. While the La Liga side are believed to not be worrieduesday at Bills Camp, Tomlinson shared some advice for the Bills running back about switching teams in an NFL career.

“It rejuvenates you honestly, when you’re able to go to a different place,” Tomlinson said this week, after a long post-practice conversation with McCoy. “You go to a place wherester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says his players all have a clean slate.Solskjaer, however, says they must fight every day to show they want to be part of the project.”The players have a chance every day to prove you should be part of this exci you’re wanted and you go to a place where they know how to play the style you’re used to—that was my case.”

After nine years in Sanch Quique Setien after defeat at Valencia on Saturday. That’s according to Okdiario’s chief pundit Eduardo Inda, while speaking on El Chiringuito.Inda revealed Barca players took issue with Setien’s claims they were struggling to follow his instructio Diego, Tomlinson finished his career with the New York Jets in 2010 and 2011, under Jets Coach Rex Ryan.

“I knew that their style and their brand of football complemented what I did well,” Tomlinson says. “It’s no different for LeSean McCoy. He’s been in this type of offense before in college. He understands how to get downhill, how to run between the tackles, how to fight for four yards and then the big runs come after that.”

Tomlinson was at Bills Camp in his current role as an analyst for the NFL Network. He interviewed McCoy on camera before their long private conversation. LT says he stressed to McCoy how Rex Ryan’s focus on a strong running game helped extend his career, and how it will benefit Shady.

Tomlinson was 30 years old when he went to the Jets via free agency. He was nine years into his likely Hall of Fame career, on his way to 13,684 rushing yards, fifth most in NFL history. In contrast, McCoy has only spent six years in the league and just turned 27 years old last month.

For that reason, LT thinks McCoy has plenty of mileage left and can easily get 300 or more touches in the Buffalo offense this season.

“I think 300 touches, absolutely,” Tomlinson says. “Because you have to imagine you’ll get anywhere between 250 and 270 carries and then you add on another 50 receptions out of the backfield—he should approach 300 touches. And I think that’s perfect for LeSean McCoy.”

“He’s a guy that needs to be implemented into the passing game as well. He’s just two talented not to be used in the passing game.”

There’s another link between Tomlinson’s success and McCoy’s future in Buffalo. LT had the good fortune to run behind Pro Bowl FB Lorenzo Neal during his best years in San Diego. This year, McCoy will have Pro Bowl FB Jerome Felton in front of him on many runs. Tomlinson says McCoy should embrace it.

“It’s all about the tempo and the rhythm sometimes with a fullback,” according to Tomlinson. “You have to communicate very well with your fullback on certain things you like, certain things you want him to do, whether it’s the power run and that fullback blowing through there and looking for the first guy. Those are things that take time to communicate and work out on the field.”

“LeSean is a smart runner. He’s naturally an instinctive runner. I don’t think it will be that big of an adjustment running with a fullback.”

Bills DE Chris Kelsay calls it a career

Defensive end Chris Kelsay has said for years that he wanted to spend his entire playing career with the Buffalo Bills. On Wednesday he made sure that would be the case. After 10 years with the club Kelsay announced his retirement Wednesday.

“I want to thank Mr. Wilson for the opportunity he gave me 10 years ago to be a Buffalo Bill,” saisays Arsenal are confident of completing a loan deal for Ceballos – and beating Tottenham to a second summer signing.Gunners boss Unai Emery has targeted Ceballos to join Arsenal on a one-year loan deal to bolster his squad and become a much-needed ad Kelsay. “One of my goals was to finish my career with the team that drafted me and that came to fruition. I feel very blessed to say that.

“The Buffalo Bills’ fans are the best in the NFL. Having played in every NFL stadium over my 10 years, there are no other fans like the ones we play in front of at the Ralph. It’s inspiring, it’s emotional and it’s exciting every moment you step on the field,” Kelsay continued.

“Your teammates are a big reason why you do this. Being around long enough you establish a lot of lifelong relationships, not just in the locker room but around the building. That’s something I’ll carry with me and cherish for the rest of my life.”

Kelsay appeared in 147 games for the Bills since the time the club made him a secondnham boss Mauricio Pochettino insists he’ll need to utilise his squad depth this season. The manager admits there is a frustration over their lack of consistency. He said, “England is a very competitive country. I’m lucky to have the possibility to pla-round draft choice in 2003. That ranks 16th most in team history. The defensive end stands ninth on the team’s all-time sack list with 32.5 in his career. Kelsay also ranks eighth in team history in forced fumbles with eight and is tied for first in team annals in career safeties with two along with Ron McDole.

The Nebraska product was a locker room leader for the defense and remarkably durable throughout his career. After missing just three games in his first eight seasons, Kelsay missed 11 total in 2011 and 2012. After sustaining a torn ligament in his neck in the middle of last season he was eventually placed on injured reserve for the last four weeks of the year.

ormer Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce says he could manage again.Allardyce has been out of work since leaving Everton at the end of last season and, while insisting he is in no rush to get back into management and enjoying his work as a pundit, t

One of the more notable highlights of Kelsay’s career came in the home Monday night game against Dallas in 2007 when Kelsay tipped a Tony Romo pass in the air to himself for an interception return for a touchdown.

In retirement the 32-year old will return to his native Nebraska with his wife Natalie and three children.

Jose Mourinho confirms Europa League now Manchester United’s main priority

content_img

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

“I don’t want our club to be just happy fighting for top four and Champions League. I want us fighting for trophies.

“We don’t hide that we are still fighting for our situation in the Premier League but the Europa League becomes a fundamental competition for us. The Premier League was not possible because we drew too many matches.”

This was only United’s second league win since the end of February and means they are four points behind Manchester City wOf the other 17 players in the Liverpool squad for Aurelio’s final appearance, against Fulham in May 2012, only Henderson is still with the club.“He has responded to the expectation of everyone at the club,” said Aurelio of his former teammate to lith one game in hand over Pep Guardiola’s side. It makes sense for Mourinho to focus minds and energy on Europe and he made a point of praity midfielder Jack Harrison. The Mirror says Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa wants to re-sign Harrison on loan from City.Harrison impressed Bielsa on loan last season and scored four goals and made three assists in the Championship as Leeds lost in the playsing the fringe players who made a positive impact in the North East.

“People who needed to feel a positive performance, they did it,” he explained. “[Matteo] Darmian, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford, it was important for them.

“Luke Shaw played well. The opposition were not creating big problems but he was solid, was confident with the ball and went forward with danger and was reading the game well to go back when Mkhitaryan was inside. He played really well, a good hour for him.”

As for Sunderland, it is a case of when they are relegated rather than if and even manager David Moyes did not try to hide behind Larsson’s sending off.

“I was disappointed we’ve not taken anything, but there were a couple of things t player of the Belgian national team in 2019. This is the third year in a row that the Real Madrid striker has achieved this recognition, which is awarded by the fans through a vote on the Belgian Federation’s website. In 2019, Hazard played eight mdidn’t go for us,” said Moyes “I’m not saying that would have made the big difference, because Manchester United had good control, but we were in the game until the sending off.

“We were in the game and it was key that we remained in the game. I think it changed that. I don’t want in any way to blame referees because our position is where we are, we’re bottom of the league, I want to make that clear. It’s nothing to do with referees, but I didn’t think it was a good decision.

“But we will only accept relegation when it becomes mathematically impossible for us to stay up. We’re not there yet and we fight on.”

Exclusive: The inside story of how Everton are planning to crack the top four

content_img

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

Much of it comes from manager Ronald Koeman, an A-list coach who since the New Year has been achieving (Everton would be the top of the Premier League if only results in 2017 counted).

Inevitably, it also comes from confidence instilled since .

But mostly it comes from a determination to ensure the phrase ‘knocking on the door of the top six’ is made redundant as the foundations that have kept Everton close to the European elite are rewarded.

In nine of the last 14 years, Everton finished in the top seven. Three times they were 5th. Once they took a coveted top four place only to (controversially) lose a Champions League qualifier.

Building on or maintaining the momentum of encouraging seasons has been challenging, but for chief executive Robert Elstone the years defying the economic trends in the Premier League are the ideal base now the financial picture is healthier.

“Leicester City aside, more often than not, you do get what you pay for,” says Elstone.

“Having said that, our average finishing position over the past ten years sits well above our average wage bill and net transfer spend, though, evidently, not well enough to break into the Champions League elite.

“We said for many years that the clubs above us had either big, modern stadia they filled every week, a billionaire owner or a global fan base built on the back of lengthy periods of on-field success. Add in the recurring, substantial benefit of European football, and the income that generates, and the gap in spending power – wages and transfer fees – is substantial. Everton’s wage bill is significantly below the six clubs sitting above the club in the League table. In the latest Deloitte Report, Everton’s total wages are 70% of Spurs’, less than half of Liverpool’s and around one-third of Chelsea’s.

“To underscore the optimism in the club, the new investor has arrived and is demonstrating his ambition.

“Stadium plans have gathered pace and this is significant in that the other clubs in the Premier League either have a new stadium, are building one or arguably don’t need to move from their existing stadium. Delivering the stadium would be an important step towards the top four.

“Also, perhaps an ingredient less tangible, there’s a widening belief that it’s not just about money. As the club has proven many times in the past, it is possible to outperform budget.

“The signs are very positive. Young players are pushing for places, results are good and confidence is running high – and the manager is at the heart of that. His steely determination, his burning ambition and his calm and understated approach are very Everton. And, as he would say himself, it is ultimately about actions, not words.

“We can only convince by results and we relish that challenge.

“When Man City or Chelsea made the step up, they were less constrained by Financial Fair Play rules than we are today. This, along with the overall player wage and transfer inflation, means that the gap is even harder to bridge now, hence we have to be smarter going about it, from our academy operations to player recruitment and building the right infrastructure at the club.”

Bridging the gap is not just about Premier League points, but also revenue streams. European qualification – at the very least Everton should be in the Europa League next season – will open further opportunities.

“By pretty much all measures – total income (dominated for most clubs by broadcast fees), commercial income and wage spend, there’s a relatively flat curve from the 20th placed club to the teams playing in Europe,” says Elstone.

“The curve then kicks up dramatically, reflecting European football, billionaire owner or big stadium full every week. Commercial revenues are polarising all the time and the big brands and the big cheques want the profile of Europe and the platform of a new stadium. Of course, for some, commercial revenues alsoico. The striker scored twice in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Everton, with Rico’s left-foot providing assists for both goals.Asked about the £10.7million signing, Wilson told the Daily Echo: “Full-backs and wingers like to get assists and if you get the op come from friendly sources. Everton’s challenge is to move from the point at which the curve kinks, to a place firmly on the upwards slope. It can only do this by securing success on the pitch and success in delivering the new stadium. It’s a substantial challenge.

“Commercially, life outside the Champions League is tough. Likewise finding the hundreds of millions of pounds to build a new stadium is tough.

“We have taken some steps forward commercially but we are not there yet and we will never rest on our laurels.

“We’re highly likely to have to cap season tickets next season which means for the second season in a row every seat at every game will be full. That’s the reward for an industry-leading community-led marketing strategy winning hearts and milo Ancelotti has found himself at the forefront of an FA misconduct charge. The veteran boss was incensed when his team was denied a winning goal against Manchester United at Goodison Park on Sunday. He thought his side had won the game 2-1, but the gonds all over the city. It also means one in four of the fans at Goodison every week are under 22 years of age, significantly better than the Premier League average.

“The future is in good shape. It’s also the reward for a clear, long-standing strategy of fan and community engagement based on traditional football values, values encapsulated by a title with which we’ve become synonymous, The People’s Club.

“Expectations are high, demands are tough and only the best will do and that’s exactly how it should be."

Another advisable requirement to fulfilling European ambitions is ensuring top players move to rather than from the blue half of the city.

When , where once there might have been resignation and even some private understanding, this time there was defiance and exasperation.

Koeman’s appointment is in itself a demonstration of the changing natta admits Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang must commit to the club long-term if he wants to keep the captaincy.Arteta is keeping faith in the Gabon striker, who has been talks over a new deal with Arsenal but negotiations have broken down.He has just 18 monure of the club, and his response to the suggestion Everton’s ambitions do not match some of their players was emphatic.

“In every aspect we are striving to improve, grow stronger and be as good as we can possibly be and we are showing that ambition,” he said.

“We are trying to make the team as strong as possible and the strong run of results in 2017 show this as well. The new stadium will be a big statement, but no less significant is the work we’ve doing at USM Finch Farm, improvements that will cement our training ground as one of the top, professional facilities in football. “Always you have to get better, you cannot stand still.

“We want to play an attractive game, solid and strong yes, but also good football, exciting football that the fans want to watch and will stir their passion. As I said before, if this club was not ambitious, I would not be the manager of Everton. It takes time and there are steps to take and the first will be qualifying for Europe this season. Next season we will look to take the next step.”

Transcript: GM Buddy Nix Recaps the 2012 Draft

content_img

Yeah you know, I’ve said this 100 times, this happens to me more than it doesn’t for some reason, you have to be lucky for things to fall to you that you want. You can’t take those guys just because you got a need in that area. But we were able to fill every one that we set out to fill. We wanted two corners, two tackles, we wanted a wide receiver, we wanted two linebackers, and we were able to get those guys. Our team got bigger and we got faster. I just hope it was in the right spots, and I think it was.

I hope so. I mean we did at the positions. You just have to feel like these guys are going to do what they’re expected to do and they are the right kind of people and they’re good enough to play. I mean tlan Rice insists he’s committed to West Ham.Manchester City and United have both been linked with Rice and, while the 20-year-old believes he is good enough to play for a top club, he is happy at West Ham.Rice said, “If you look at the contract I’vhese linemen are huge, and we got some good speed at the skill positions.

Like I say, you’ve have to have some luck, things have to fall. We had a couple of guys that maybe we had targeted two or three and one or two of them were taken before we got to them, but the guys we really had rated the highest we were able to get.

Yeah, and these guys have really been good special teams players.ed with Fiorentina’s 0-0 draw against Juventus. The Viola picked up their first point of the season after defeats to Napoli and Genoa, with the best chances testing Wojciech Szczesny.“I am very happy, as it’s been three months since I played a full (Nigel) Bradham and (Ron) Brooks, those guys are impact players on special teams.

We needed a center. We’ve got Colin Brown playing there, we’d like not to wear him out and we wanted to get another center. This old boy is as big as a house, too. He plays center and guard. He’s 6’6 ¼” and 330 or whatever and really a better player than people think. He’s a smart guy. He should give us some help.

He’s worked there. How much he’s played there, I don’t really know, but I know he worked there in practice.

We had him in here to visit, and we knew we needed some depth at linebacker, and Tank has been a good player for them (TCU). He’s a tough guy, he’s had some shoulder problems. He did when he was a junior. He almost came out when he was a junior and he decided to stay in his senior year and had I think broke his little finger and didn’t tackle as well, but a good player. Can play any spot for us.

He’s a tough guy. He brings that kind of temperament I think to us and we always need that, you like to have those kinds.

We said all along that we like to go by body of work. We don’t want a guy that realizes he’s going to be eligible for the draft and puts more effort in it and it’s not an everyday thing. We want somebody that has been consistent with it.

You know I think he does that pretty good. I think he has to improve the other stuff. He can run with seam routes, you see him do it. He’s got good speed. This guy looks like Tarzan. I mean he’s really cut up. He’s a little bit straight-line and he might be just a fuzz late on some of the reads and the instincts, but he’s really a hitter. He punishes them.

I think it’s a position more than when you take them in the draft. I think you always want a, if it’s a back up you want a back up that can play guard or center. If you don’t, he’s never active. If a guy’s just a center he can’t get him active on game day, if he’s a back up. So you want your back up because you only have seven active offensive linemen, you want a guy that can play both tackle and you want a guy that can play guard and center, and that’s your seven guys. Now at linebacker, the way you’d get on the field is if you’re a good special teams player, but with this 4-3 scheme most everybody can play all three positions.

He’s a guy that, actually he probably went to the wrong school. He got hurt early in his career and he got behind people like (Morris) Claiborne and those guys. They got two or three young guys that are just like Claiborne. They just keep them coming. Once he lost it then he didn’t get it back until somebody else got hurt. I think the little freshman missed three or four games and he started those. When he played he was an impact player. He’s got great speed. We got him in 4.34. That was his work out. He’s really a big time hitter, good blitzer.

Yeah, he can.

According to who he was replacing, he played outside some but he played inside too. He’s a good player I know that.

He can play either side. He started out as a right tackle. (Andrew) Datko was the left tackle. Datko got hurt and they moved him over to the left side and he played left tackle so he’s played both. The good thing about that old boy is he started 51 out of 53 games.

I’m going to tell you why he was there, I think. He had a bad Senior Bowl. He goes to the Senior Bowl. He had tried to lose some weidream come true.Hazard left Chelsea this summer for Real for a fee rising to €150m.He told Corriere dello Sport, “Ever since childhood, I dreamed of one day wearing the Real Madrid jersey. “When Real knock at your door, you can do only one thing:ght and he worked them in at guard and that kind of threw him off. He didn’t have a good Senior Bowl. I think it scared off everybody. It actually scared us some. You couldn’t get it out of your mind. We say that all-star games are not going to move a guy up or down, but once you see it you know it’s hard not remember that. You go back to his body of work he played good and he’s got some of that strength back.

We’re going to get one in free agency. We’re going to bring in a quarter back and we think a good one. We were poised to draft one and he just wasn’t there.

You know our history with injuries. You’ve got to play through them up here and especially the way we’ve been the last couple of years. These guys are consistent and dependable. That is a factor.

It probably is (unique) for us. We did draft a couple that are still in San Diego. This guy, because we like competition everywhere. Don’t be surprised if we don’t bring in a punter just to have. We’re going to make them work to keep their spot. If somebody’s better they’ll beat them out. This guy is a kick off guy. He kicked through the uprights kicking off. And if you can make, if you can kick the ball in the end zone and make them start on the 20 it gives you a much better chance defensively. Then it will be up to Chan (Gailey) to figure out a spot to get him in the 46 so he’s active, but if he can consistently kick it in the end zone then he’s worth that 7th round pick.

I think so. If you could start every time on the 20. The wear and tear on your cover guys is a lot less. We did. We pinned them in there. Every now and then if he pinned one in the middle they started on the 40 and that’s what you’d like to know that you could kick it in the end zone every time. That’s mostly what people did to us.

Spiller's big day rings hollow in loss

content_img

With six games to handle the mantle of feature running back C.J. Spiller has already shown some flashes of the kinds of plays he can deliver with the ball in his hands. On Sunday he flashed early and late and put together the most productive day in his young career. The only problem was he did it in a loss that extended Buffalo’s lengthy losing streak.

“It was a good day, tough losing the game,” said Spiller. “Obviously we really wanted this one. I think we played hard. The first half we really cosays Liverpool are capable of going through the season undefeated.Henry was part of the Gunners team which achieved this feat for the 2003/04 campaign.“I think this team can go without defeats, and the question remains who will be the first to defeuldn’t get anything established on offense; weren’t executing, penalties. We just have to go back and, that’s something we can fix.  See what we did bad, correct it, and see what we did good and learn of it.”

Spiller could learn a lot by what he did after the Bills defense forced a fumble midway through the first quarter. In a scoreless game Buffalo’s offense stuck to the ground early. After ro Lampard was delighted with Mateo Kovacic’s performance for their FA Cup win at Hull City.Lampard is pleased the midfielder is justifying his decision to buy him outright from Real Madrid last summer. The manager reflected: “I think he can do both rollling up 15 yards on his first three carries on the Bills first two possessions, Spiller ripped off an 18-yard run on a 2nd-and-10 down to the Miami 24-yard line. That was followed by a run up the middle that he busted to the near sideline after breaking a tackle, gaining the corner and reaching the end zone for a 24-yard touchdown run.

“I started to make my move early, saw the receiver coming in and he had a good block on that cornerback out there, I think it was Brad Smith, I saw the safety try to fit inside. He obviously didn’t do a good job of wrapping up and I used my strength that people say that I have little of, and showed that I can break tackles.”

At the half Spiller had rolled up 64 yards on just eight carries and had three receptions for 15 yards. Head coach Chan Gailey said the plan all along was to make heavy use of Spiller in the passing game.

“We had a plan of certain packages that we were using C.J . and we were using Tashard (Choice) in,” said Gailey. “We knew we were going to use C.J. a lot in the passing game.”

Come the second half Buffalo’s offense sputtered with Spiller only seeing four more carries the rest of the game finishing with a career-high 91 rushing yards. He also had a career-best nine receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown, the second most by a Bills player this season.

Down 23-7 Spiller was responsible for 41 yards on Buffalo’s 80-yard scoring drive and the back capped the possession pulling in a three-yard touchdown reception from Ryan Fitzpatrick on a quick slant to make it a 10-point game. Spiller became the first Bills player since Fred Jackson in the 2010 season to post a rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game.

Spiller’s 167 total yards from scrimmage was also a personal best eclipsing his previous best of 102 yards against Tennessee. All the lofty statistics however, didn’t register with Spiller coming off a loss.

“I’d trade those stats in for a win,” he said. “I was just trying to make plays. I knew what I had to do coming into the game, I knew what I wanted to try and correct from last game. Obviously I wasn’t making enough people miss last game and that’s something I wanted to correct and I knew those guys have a great rush defense ser David Luiz has played down his training ground bust-up with Gonzalo Higuain before last night’s Europa League final triumph. In the last session before the game, Luiz was filmed clearly elbowing Higuain. After defeating Arsenal, Luiz admitted the clo I really took that to heart to go out and show that we can run the ball against anybody.”

However, Buffalo ran it just seven times in the second half of Sunday’s loss to Miami. Gailey indicated that not using Spiller as much in the run game come the final two quarters of the game was to keep him fresh.

“We’re trying not to wear the guy completely out,” said Gailey. “He’s not the biggest back in the world. I don’t think he can go out there and carry it 25 or 30 times. I don’t want to put him in that position to carry it 25 to 30 times. I think we’ve got to split the carries and let Tashard have some of those packages to take some of the hits off of C.J.”

Spiller didn’t have a problem with the approach knowing all told he had 20 total touches in the game.

“We were down two scores; we’re trying to get some momentum, trying to get it going,” Spiller said. “I don’t go into the second half saying ‘I want this many carries.’ Whatever we need to do to get us back into the game, that’s what we’ve got to go with. I thought we were running the ball very successful but when you get down two scores and you’re trying to get back into the game and get your crowd back into it, you’ve got to try and throw it around a little bit.”

In the four games in which Spiller has been the main ball carrier he’s undoubtedly progressed, but the second-year back is more focused on finishing the season out with a victory or two instead of assessing where his game is right now.

“It’s too early, after we play the Patriots I’ll see what I did, but I’m just trying to learn on the go,” he said. “When you think you’ve done well, that’s when you get complacent.  I’m just learning as we go and I’m getting more and more comfortable with the offensive line.  After the season I think I’ll have a better idea over these six games how I think I did.”

Referring to Bills fans as being great, McKelvin said Wednesday he doesn’t want anyone arrested for painting an obscenity and the game’s score on the front lawn of his home shortly after a 25-24 season-opening loss at New England on Monday.

Greer torn with free agency approaching

content_img

Free agency is often seen as a jackpot opportunity for players that have made the most of their first four or five years in the league. Even players say you work hard every day and perform every week for your second contract. For Jabari Greer it will be different.

The Bills starting cornerback, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, has already had a second contract. After signing with the Bills as an undrafted rookie in 2004, his rookie deal wase talks with Fifa and Real Madrid about funding rival global club competitions, according to the Financial Times. The business newspaper reports that CVC is in discussions with soccer’s global governing body about acquiring the commercial rights to th up after the 2006 season. Greer went untendered by the Bills as a restricted free agent, but was eventually re-signed to a modest two-year pact.

This offseason Greer will sign his third contract after maximizing his pure talent with rigorous offseason training and learning from the experience 26 NFL starts can provide.

“I’ve gained that experience and become a better player,” said Greer. “So I now have the maturity and know how to play the game and how to study and how to take care of my body. I’ve taken that step up and I feel like there are a lot more steps that I’m still going to take.”

But the step into free agency is a different one. One that was much different from the last time he was not under contract. Coming out of the 2006 season Greer was a sub-package cornerback. He had yet to hold down a starting role on defense. The jury was out.

Now two years lar victory over Finland. The Azzurri won their Euro qualifier 2-1 through a Lazio striker Ciro Immobile goal and a Jorginho, of Chelsea, penalty.”There was a little bit of suffering, but we created it ourselves. We were dominating the game and gave awater with a pair of interception returns for touchdowns this season and solid performances against high profile receivers like Terrell Owens on his resume, Greer figures to be a hot commodity on the open market.

“I hope that’s what they say when they see me,” said Greer. “The funny thing is I know those plays and those plays feel good, but I’m worrying about the interception I missed against Jacksonville. And those plays are motivating for me when it comes time to conquer the offseason and know when there’s opportunity you’ve got to grab it.”

The opportunity rsenal caretaker manager Freddie Ljungberg’s staff. The former Gunners captain has been working as an agent in recent years. But The Sun claims Gilberto could come in and help Ljungberg pick up the pieces after Unai Emery was sacked.Silva still lives ithat could be coming his way in the offseason is a big pay day if the Bills elect not to re-sign him prior to the opening of free agency in March.

A week ago cornerback Corey Webster was re-signed to a five-year deal worth a reported $43.5 million with $20 million guaranteed. It’s not unrealistic to think in an open market Greer, with comparable career numbers, could command as much.

Being heavily invested in top pick Leodis McKelvin, and with the contracts of Terrence McGee and Ashton Youboty set to expire after the 2009 season, it’s hard to definitively say what the Bills will do at the cornerback position.

“That’s the business aspect of the game,” said Greer. “Unfortunately it’s like that, but you also have a chance to do what’s best for your family. And that’s what I want to do. I’m not money hungry, but at the same time you have to take care of your own.”

On the positive side Greer has respect for the organization that took a chance on him and a good relationship with Bills COO Russ Brandon, who played a large role in landing him as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2004 draft was over.

“I think they know where my heart is and that whatever happens and whatever business negotiations go on that I’ll always be thankful for the opportunity I got here,” said Greer. “There’s a difference between loyalty and self interest and I want them to know that as long as the opportunity is here I’m going to be here. But if the opportunity is someplace else then I have to do what’s best to provide for my family.”

If that opportunity does prove to exist elsewhere, Greer knows moving on will be difficult when he thinks of his teammates.

“That’s the toughest thing,” he said. “The relationships that you establish in this locker room. I know when everything is said and done there are guys in this locker room that will be with me for the rest of my life. They understand what I’m up against. I don’t want to speculate on what might happen, but whatever happens I know that I’ll have the support of my teammates.”

The road hasn’t been easy for Greer in carving out a career for himself. From undrafted rookie, to special teams contributor, to sub-package defensive back to proven starter Greer has steadily climbed the ladder. And there will be a reward for that. But for once Greer is content with sitting back and letting that reward come to him.

“My mom always told me, ‘Jabari, what’s yours is yours and nobody can ever take that away from you.’ Not only when they drafted Leodis or they brought in Will (James) in the offseason. There have been so many things that have been stacked against me. Through it all she’s always told me what’s meant for you is meant for you. So what’s meant for me in the future in this game is going to be for me. If it’s meant for me to be one of those guys that’s blessed with the ability to provide for my family then it’s going to happen. And I hope it does.”

Auburn vs. Mississippi State: Live stream, watch online, TV channel, kickoff time, odds, pick, prediction

No. 7  is coming  off a big road win at Texas A&M and will be looking to keep the momsays Rangers and Roma have enquired about taking Phil Foden on loan. The City youngster has been the centre of attention in Glasgow and Rome ahead of the closing of the transfer window.Foden, one of the bright sparks of England’s otherwise disappointientum going Saturday night when the roll into town in a key SEC West battle. The Tigers defense was flat out nasty against the Aggies and only gave up just 2.7 yards per rushing attempt. That, coupled with the fast start from the offense, helped them build a big lead before alla defender Gabriel Paulista is on his radar.Gabriel is set to gain Spanish nationality in the near future and Enrique has revealed that the Valencia centre-back is among his options for La Roja’s defence.”I am aware of every player who could be calleowing a few late touchdowns to make it interesting on the scoreboard. The Bulldogs rebounded from the loss to Kansas State two weeks ago with a resounding win over Kentucky in Starkville, Mississippi, last weekend.

If Auburn is to keep its hopes of reaching the SEC and national title games alive, they will need to win tough conferences test like this down the stretch. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, could play spoiler in one of the deepest conferences in football once again.

What will happen Saturday night on The Plains? Let’s break down the game and make picks straight up and against the spread.

Storylines

It’s safe to say that the Tigers’ defensive front is one of the best in the nation, and will keep them in every game they play. Because of that, and the rest of the rushing attack has been the centerpiece of an offense that is still building with true freshman taking the snaps. Nix is 13th in the SEC in passing with 161.3 yards per game, and coach Gus Malzahn has essentially ignored short and intermediate routes over the middle despite those typically being a big part of an RPO-based offense. The Bulldogs have given up 143.2 yards per game on the ground, which means that you’ll probably see more of the same attack from Malzahn.

Quarterback ‘ status is still in doubt heading into the matchup. What isn’t in doubt is that his backup Garrett Shrader was pretty solid in his first start last week when he completed 77.3% of his passes. Why was he so efficient? Because running back is an absolute monster. The junior has topped the 100-yard mark on the ground in all four games this season, ripped off 120 yards and three touchdowns last weekend and leads the nation with 20 rushing plays of 10 or more yards. The problem for the Bulldogs is that they’ve given up 4.5 yards per rushing attempt — 12th in the SEC.

Game prediction, picks

Auburn’s philosophy is simple — run the ball, play defense and pick spots for Nix to open things up just enough in the passing game to keep opposing teams honest. The same plan will work on Saturday night. Whitlow will wear down a Bulldogs defense thak-four has given his side more freedom. The Magpies blew West Bromwich Albion away by scoring three goals in the first-half of their FA Cup fifth-round tie on Tuesday. And Bruce thinks moving from a back-five has freed up his attacking players. He said:t lacks depth, allow Nix to work off play-action and lead the Tigers to an ugly, yet efficient win and cover. It might be sketchy deep into the second half, but the Tigers are just too much for these Bulldogs.

Boston College vs. Kansas odds, predictions: 2019 college football picks from model on 18-6 run

content_img

It’s the Big 12 against the ACC on Friday night as the head east to face the . The nationally televised non-conference matchup kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET. Boston College (2-0) rolled to a 35-28 opening week win over . Meanwhile, Kansas (1-1) is coming off an eye-opening 12-7 loss to , but improvement is expected under new head coach Les Miles, who guided to a national title in 2007. Against the spread, the Eagles are 20-point favorites in the current Boston College vs. Kansas odds, down from an open of 21, with the over-under set at 51. These teams have never met and each had to replace more than half its starting lineup to begin the season, so before locking in any Kansas vs. Boston College picks and predictions, you need to see the results from the SportsLine Projection Model.

The model simulates every FBS game 10,000 times, and those who have followed it have seen massive returns. Over the past four years, this proprietary computer model has generated a jaw-dropping $4,530 profit for $100 bettors on its top-rated spread picks.

The model enters Week 3 of the 2019 college football season on a blistering 18-6 run on its top-rated picks. It also called (+158) straight-up upset of and was all over (+23) against No. 10 in a game the Black Knights pushed to overtime and covered with a ton of room to spare. Anybody who has been following it is way up.

Now, it has set its sights on Boston College vs. Kansas. We can tell you the model is leaning under, but it also says one side of the spread hits in over 50 percent of simulations. That pick is available over at SportsLine.

The model knows quarterback and the Eagles have lit up oppadrid.Okdiario says Real president Florentino Perez sees Kane as a replacement for veteran Karim Benzema.Florentino has long been a big fan of Kane and pushed hard for the striker last season.Just last Friday, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino recogniseosing defenses so far, scoring 35 and 45 points in their two victories. And he’s not afraid to go downfield, averaging a whopping 19 yards per completion. He faces an inexperienced Kansas defense that is breaking in a new 3-4 scheme. Last season, Kansas gave up at least 48 points three times.

Boston College had its best season at home in a while last year, going 5-2. Kansas, meanwhile, has won just one road game since 2009 and covered the spread only 16 times in its last 53 road games. The Jayhawks have lost 18 of their last 22 road openers.

But just because the Eagles are humming and favored Friday doesn’t mean they’ll cover the Boston College vs. Kansas spread.

Kansas’ offense remains a work in progress, though the run game got it done on Saturday against Coastal Carolina. Pooka Williams, who last year rushed for 1,125 yards and seven touchdowns, gained 99 yards, while added 82. On Friday, the model says the pair will combine for 130 yards on the ground and over five senal job.Guardiola said he would not object to Arteta taking the Arsenal manager’s job should the Gunners decide to turn to their former player to succeed Unai Emery, who was dismissed on Friday morning.”I said many times with my players, staff, theyards per carry.

The Jayhawks’ defense has been a strengr factor.Arsenal are the visitors to Old Trafford on Monday night. And Fowler wrote for the Mirror: “The fear factor has been leaking away from Old Trafford for several years now – but now it has vanished entirely.”That is a huge problem for Oleth so far, allowing just 12 points per game and a scant 151 yards passing per game. B.C. likes to throw the ball, but its quarterback has completed only 57 percent of his passes.

Clemson vs. Georgia Tech: Prediction, pick, odds, line, TV channel, live stream, watch online

content_img

One way or another each year since 2005, the annual cross-division rivalry between No. 3  and  has been a major factor in the ACC championship race. The Tigers and Yellow Jackets have combined to appear in the ACC Championship Game nine times in that 12-year span, though it has been Clemson dominating the league — and this rivalry — over the last three seasons.

The Tigers have won three straight games againnst West Ham United was down to an increase in confidence. The Brazilian received the ball from Theo Walcott on the edge of the penalty box and went on a mazy run to score the opening goal in the 2-0 victory.Asked if he was intent on firing off a shotst the Jackets and six of the last eight regular-season meetings between the teams. Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables’ unit is not only loaded with talent, it seems to have Georgia Tech’s offense completely figured out, holding the Yellow Jackets to just 17 combined points in the last two meetings.

Avoid the upset. Clemson is playing the long game right now, favored (often heavily) against every opponent on its schedule and trying to establish a championship-level focus and the kind of habits that could be the difference in a Playoff game. That said, recent losses against (2017) and (2016) have proven that Clemson is not only far from unbeatable in ACC play but just a few plays away from having those playoff chances altered dramatically. If there’s a spot on the schedule where Clemson might be vulnerable, playing on the road against an all-too-familiar rival loSports says Bentaleb is on Tyneside having a medical with Newcastle, ahead of a loan move from Schalke, which is managed by former Huddersfield boss David Wagner.Bentaleb has had an agreement with Wagner to seek a move away from S04 since before Chrioks looks to be it — at least enough so to get Clemson’s full, undivided attention.

This is a very crucial part of the season for Georgia Tech to avoid making the 2018 campaign the third time in four years that the Yellow Jackets did not finish the season in a bowl game. Ever since going 11-3 in 2014 and beating in the Orange Bowl, Georgia Tech has been 18-21 and failed to finish with a winning record in ACC play. The setbacks this year have already started piling up: back-to-back close losses to USF and Pitt, injuries to star offensive players and now the potential of starting the year 1-3 with thrNew Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri has revealed he has plans for Federico Bernardeschi.Sarri admits he’s a big fan of the midfielder. He stated, “Everyone knows I like this lad, ever since Fiorentina-Napoli. “He is well-organised, has talent, but lacks a little bit of consistency from game to game.“I think this is the moment of his career where he needs to play consistently in one single role.”ee top-25 teams left on the schedule. Paul Johnson said this week it’s time to pull yourself up by your boot straps, so what kind of response will the Yellow Jackets have for the Tigers?

Game prediction, picks

Too many points here in a game where I expect Georgia Tech to play well with its back against the wall. Clemson knows it doesn’t need style points, it just needs wins, and it can ride the defense to another low-scoring victory.

WATCH: Arkansas’ Bret Bielema has hot takes on eggnog during the holidays

content_img

Orange juice isn’t just for breakfast anymore, and eggnog isn’t just for the holiday season — at least according to Bret Bielema. The Arkansas coach went on an inspired rant about eggnog and when/where it’s acceptable. In short, Ber United star Dimitar Berbatov has revealed his way of celebrating his first league title win.The Bulgarian claimed the honor at the end of the 2008-2009 season, when United won their third successive Premier League trophy. And he revealed that he coielema is of the “do you” belief in which eggnog is drinkable whenever, wherever.

Eggnog in July seems like a bad idea, but if that’ progress. The defender is starring on-loan with Leeds UnitoriaGuimaraes in Portugal to draw this Europa League tie 1-1.Shkodran Mustafi had provided the Gunners with the breakthrough with an unmarked header from a Nicolas Pepe free-kick with 10 minutes to go.But Vitoria came to life in the closing stages ited this season.Potter said: “It’s a great experience for him at Leeds.“It’s why you go on loan, to have that challenge.“He’s done really well and now they have a chance to get to the Pres Bielema’s M.O., by all means, go for it.

So don’t be surprised if Bielema is drinking something other than Gatorade in those little cups on the sideline during the Belk Bowl on Dec. 29 against Virginia Tech.

SEC Power Rankings: Arkansas, Auburn climb as SEC West dominates top of list

content_img

For those wondering whether was a legitimate threat to , Saturday’s 49-10 whitewashing in Knoxville gave you an emphatic “no” as the answer to that question.

In Week 9 ittriker Danny Ings. The Telegraph says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made an approach for the 27-year-old after Marcus Rashford was ruled out for six weeks with a back injury.Ings has been in top form for the Saints this season, netting 16 goals in all competit’s going to be Texas A&M’s turn to try and knock off the champs, and the Aggies must do so as 16.5-point underdogs in Tuscaloosa. Alabama appears to be back to juggernaut status in the SEC, which means the intrigue for the top spot in our power rankings remains pretty low.

However, the rest of the rankings got shuffled up thanks to some big wins by teams like and , and more confusion at the bottom of the conference.

Here are the Week 9 SEC Power Rankings:

RankTeamReasonLast Week1Alabama is figuring out how good he is and is building confidence each week. The defense is outscoring some offenses. Lane Kiffin’s tossing his visor to Vols fans. It’s just another season of Alabama football in T-Town. 12Texas A&MThe bye week gave the Aggies extra time to prepare for the Tide. We’ll see if that pays dividends on Saturday. The good news: they have a rare quarterback with great memories of playing Alabama in . 23ArkansasA week after taking a loss at the hands of Alabama — no shame there — the Hogs turned around to beat Ole Miss in thrilling fashion for the second straight year. This is a resilient Arkansas bunch and, while the defense has some holes, the offense is clipping along despite having replaced so much from last year. I’ve been impressed by the Razorbacks so far this season. 54Auburn*whispers* Auburn might be good, y’all. The defense appears to be nasty and the offense is starting to play well. I need to see the offense do it against someone other than and ULM before I’m fully on board, but I have one foot on the Tigers’ bandwagon. First test: Arkansas this week. 65Ole MissI have a feeling Hugh Freeze is about tired of playing Arkansas after the way the last two games have gone. The Rebels fell to 3-3 with the loss Saturday, but they’re probably the nation’s best 3-3 team for whatever that’s worth. Things don’t get easier this week as they must head down to Baton Rouge for a night game with LSU.36Somehow, the Gators are now your SEC East leaders. This appears to be happening again. The defense in Gainesville is filthy. The offense can do things against mediocre-to-bad defenses, and, lucky for them, that’s what the entire SEC East is made up of outside of Knoxville. The makeup game in Baton Rouge looms very large for the SEC East title race. 87LSULike Auburn, LSU has seen a resurgew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.The young pair were outstanding in their Champions League triumph last season.”Both Andy and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] on the other side had incredible seasons,” Warnock told Liverpoolfc.com.”I think last seasonence since their loss on the Plains. Coach O has the boys in Baton Rouge playing inspired football and a win on Saturday against Ole Miss would have them right back in the conversation for the SEC West race with only one conference loss. 78TennesseeThis might be a harsh drop for the Vols, but that wasn’t just a loss to Alabama — it was a crushing defeat. Tennessee got outplayed in all three phases of the game by the Tide and looked to clearly be the inferior team. That said, the Vols should make a steady climb back up these rankings as they will be heavy favorites in each of their final five games to close the season. 49A bye week after a victory is a good thing for Kentucky. Another winnable game is coming the ‘Cats way this week in the form of Mississippi State. Bowl eligibility is not out of the question for Kentucky, which is an amazing thing to think about after the start to the season. 1010I don’t understand this Vanderbilt team, but I can’t help but love them. is a monster at middle linebacker and when the defense is right they’re nasty. The offense is still miserable to watch, but every once in a while the running game gets rolling. The road win over is a huge moment for Derek Mason’s bunch, so enjoy this one ‘Dores. 1411Mississippi StateTake pride in being one of the ‘s best quarterbacks so far this season, Bulldog fans. That will help take the sting out of this season in Starkville. 1112GeorgiaI was wondering if Georgia could find new lows this season. Losing to Vanderbilt at homr is happy with what he’s seen from Adams and is backing him to come good.He said: “He is a little bit unlucky sometimes with his actions. The pre-season was much easier for him where he scored immediately and this gives you self-confidence.“He ie for the first time since 2006 seems to qualify. 913The Tigers took it on the chin in Gainesville on Saturday. The somewhat promising offense of the early season has turned back into a pumpkin. 1214Alright, Gamecocks. You’re nearly three touchdown favorites this week over UMass. You can do this. Get yourselves a convincing win this week. 13
