How Man City can get back on track and what Arsenal will do to stop it

data-js=”article-bdion Ighalo offers them something different.Ighalo could start tonight at Europa League opponents Club Brugge.“Well for me Odion is a different type of striker for us,” Solskjaer told reporters in Belgium.“He’s a box striker, he’s a goalscorer. Wody” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

. A mid-press is the most likely strategy and this will leave space for City to hit direct passes in behind, something that the forwards must constantly look for. If Arsenal press high it could lead to scoring chances for City, as defenders pass their way out from the back to reach an exposed, vulnerable Gunners midfield.

Arsenal will almost certainly attempt to the block the middle of the pitch to force City’s play wide. City must make the pitch as wide possible to allow forward passes to be played through central areas, having the wingers hug the touchlines to stretch the space between defending midfielders or defenders. This frees up space between bodies to fire the ball to advanced players quickly through the middle.

The wingers must ensure they stay wide to stretch the pitch and create these passing lanes, taking care not to drift inside too early or run into dead ends. Sterling was guilty of doing this against Newcastle.

4-1-2-1-2 and how it caters for Mesut Ozil

Arsenal are great in possession but lack a killer final ball. Mesut Ozil is one of the best in Europe at making that pass but offers nothing defensively. To cater for Ozil, Emery can play three defensive-minded midfielders to provide a barrier in a 4-4-2 diamond, a formation Arsenal have used in their previous two Premier League matches.

All three of Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka can carry the ball aam.The midfielder revealed that Bruce pinpointed West Ham’s tendency to play a high line and deployed Shelvey to pick holes in their defence.Shelvey told NUFC TV: “We know that Pellegrini’s teams like to play a high line.”The gaffer spoke about it bend play neat forward passes through the centre of the park at Premier League level – all of Arsenal’s players are good at this – the problem is finding that magic end product in the final third.

Man City are the home team and, simply, better than Arsenal. For this reason Emery will almost certainly start without Ozil in a more defensive shape.

Arsenal built for the counter-attack

Newcastle pulled off a shock win over Man City by blocking passing lanes and defending resiliently in a 5-4-1. The wide midfielders doubled up on City’s wingers in wide areas to make sure defenders were never outnumbered by rival attackers, with Ayoze Perez darting forward during attacks to a more central position beside the striker, overlapped by the right back.

Arsenal could attempt to frustrate City in a 3-4-3 shape with the forwards dropping into midfield when out of possession just as Newcastle did. If they can keep City quiet for the majority of the game, eventually cracks will appear to make counter-attacks a possibility.

Before they can race up the pitch, Arsenal need to ensure that they frustrate City with their defensive shape. The 3-4-3 can easily become a 5-4-1 with Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang droppingright to turn things around. The Argentine’s five-year stint at Spurs came to an end on Tuesday after a poor start to the Premier League season. But after leading the club to their first Champions League final in June, the THST believes Pochettino didn to a left midfield position (LM), supported by the left-back Sead Kolasinac (LB). The idea is to push play wide, then backwards and repeat until City give the ball away.

The pace of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, Alex Iwobi and Alexandre Lacazette will cause big problems if Man City are caught with too many players ahead of the ball. Employing a slightly deeper press suits their physical attributes – expect a mid-press or low block to ensure City leave space in behind their defensive line to suit pacy strikers.

Dealing with injuries

Laurent Koscielny may not be able to play due to a jaw injury. Sokratis, Bellerin and Holding are all definitely out while Maitland-Niles is a doubt – Arsenal don’t have (m)any defenders left and unless they wish to play Xhaka at centre-back again, will have to field a weakened back four instead of a three simply due to numbers available.

Man City’s forwards will be keen to test any vulnerability at the back, particularly Kolasinac’s tendency to drift forward and leave space vacant behind. Riyad Mahrez has often caused problems for Arsenal in the past and may well start on the right wing to test this theory, with Sterling running at whoever has to fill in at right-back.

The Arsenal centre-backs must watch for City’s trademark move in particular; a winger gets to the line and fakes to cross low into the box, before cutting the pass back to the penalty spot, or edge of the box for a waiting forward to slot past a bamboozled goalkeeper.

‘I’m Jan Siewert and I have to do it my way’: New Huddersfield manager rejects comparisons with David Wagner and Jurgen Klopp

content_img

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

Siewert, who began to focus on coaching at the age of 23 after a series of knee operations that evenhan Barnett, speaking with Sky Sports, has refused to shut down the prospect of Bale joining United this summer.”Manchester United? He could go,” revealedNorwich City striker Teemu Pukki says he’s having “fun” this season. The Finn scored in defeat to Italy in last night’s Euros qualifier. He told TMW: “I’m having fun playing football. “I’ve had two very good years, I have confidence in myself, scoring so many goals makes you confident in your abilities. “Things are going very well, I hope to continue like this.” Barnett. “I think he could get there, he’s still one of the best players in the world. “But it’tually forced him to retire, is also keen to avoid comparisons with Klopp.

“Jurgen is definitely an inspiration,” he said. “But please, I can’t be compared to Jurgen Klopp, you know what I mean, because he has had so many successes, and he’s an outstanding manager. And I’m Jan Siewert.”

The new manager’s early days in England have also seen him involved in a more comical identity mix-up, after he was confused with the chief executive of a Yorkshire-based children’s charity during Sunday’s match against Manchester City.

Sky Sports reporter Patrick Davison approached a man he thought was Siewert during the game, only to discovan coach Antonio Conte. The Italy international was brought to Stamford Bridge by Conte in January 2018.Now at Inter, Conte is getting to work with setting up his characteristic 5-3-2 system.Ivan Perisic is the favourite to fill the LWB role, however,er it was Manchester City supporter Martin Warhurst, head of the Martin House charity.

Siewert confirmed he was at Sunday’s match, but hidden elsewhere at the John Smith’s Stadium to avoid the media.

“I have to thank Martin from Wakefield because it was fantastic that I could observe the game,” Siewert said. “And he’s a good-looking guy, yeah? I’m not kidding; for me it was good to have a silent look at the game and get the atmosphere and the feeling.”

Siewert takes charge of a club who face a near-impossible job to avoid relegation, sitting bottom of the Premier League, 10 points from a position of safety, having won just two of 23 matches.

Wagner left by mutual consent on January 14 after more than three years in charge, having taken the club into the top division for the first time since 1972, then kept them there last season.

Julian Winter, Huddersfield’s chief executive, said that Wagner had indicated before Christmas that he needed to take a break from management.

Winter said: “David is a good man. We maybe first had a conversation four weeks ago, something of that order.

“David, being the human being that he is, sort of said building up to a January transfer window: Does the club want to adapt, think about different things? The maturity of that conversation was exactly as it was publicised.”

Winter added that Huddersfield had made preparations so that the club would not suffer off the field in the event of relegation.

He said: “To be blunt, this club has been prepared for getting into the Premier League and it will be prepared if it is not in the Premier League.

“We retained our status last season, which was fabulous. But we know that if this club does get relegated, it doesn’t fall into crisis. There aren’t fire sales.”

Bills Today: Buffalo's newest safety eager to play with Hyde and Poyer

content_img

The Bills wasted no time adding depth at the safety position, as they signed Rafael Bush on the first day of the 2018 free agency period. He joins one of the best safe Vardy.Vardy appeared to collect a hamstring injury during their 4-1 rout of West Ham.But Rodgers said, “It is not his hamstring which is good. Hopefully over the next couple of days it will ease off and he will be fit.”Jamie is a real talisman for tty duos in the NFL from a season ago.

Bush mentioned that he’s antsy to play with Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. In 2017, that tandem combined for 10 interceptions, more than any pair of safeties in the league.

“Well, I’m just looking forward to working with those two guys. As a tandem last year, I think they had maybe, what, 10 interceptions?” said Bush. “As a unit last year, the secondary was pretty good. I’m just here to kind of just bring my skill set to the team and help in whatever way I can.”

Bush has made plays in a variety of ways at safety throughout his seven-year career. In 76 career games (18 starts), he’s tallied 190 tackles, 13 passes defended, three interceptions, three fumble recoveries, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one defensive touchdown.

As a fellow safety, it’s come natural for Bush tracking the success of Hyde and Poyer.

“I think just being a safety, you look at other safeties around the league, so that’s kind of natural for guys, myself included,” he said. “Watching those guys play together, I’ve been watching Micah Hyde in Green Bay for some years, and I always thought he was a great player.

“Poyer was one of those guys that was a special teams player at first. I kind of can relate to that, being that myself, and then kind of getting the opportunity to play and making the most of his opportunities. I respect that, so like I said, I’m excited to work with those guys and can’t wait to get to work.”

The Bills undoubtedly inherited a winner with their latest quarterback signing. Former Alabama Crimson Tide signal-caller, AJ McCarron, has three BCS National Championship rings to his name.

So, what does the newest Bills QB do with those championship rings?

“Mine, I give them to my family. My uncle has one, my dad has one and my grandpa has one,” said McCarron. “I don’t ever wear one. I play just because I love playing the game. I let them enjoy all that.”

In McCarron’s four seasons at Alabama, he posted some absurd numbers. In 53 games, he threw for 9,019 yards, 77 touchdowns, and only 15 interceptions.

McCarron got his first national championship ring in 2009 when he was redshirting as a true freshman and the Crimson Tide went 14-0. The quarterback had a much more significant role in earning his last two championship rings. He was named the Offensive Player of the Game in ‘Bama’s 2011 national title-winning performance in a 21-0 win over LSU.

He then followed that up with another national title the following season as Alabama routed Notre Dame 42-14 for the 2012 national championship.

Tate joined on Thursday to discuss his free agency process.

“I’m in Cincinnati right now,” he said. “Right now, I’m working out and I’ve got a couple of teams interested, but nothing is official yet. I’m just working out and hanging with my wife and my kids.”

Tate, a nine-year veteran in the NFL, has played with three different teams in his career. His first two years (2009-2010) were with the New England Patriots. After his time with the Pats, he went on to play five seasons (2011-2015) for the Cincinnati Bengals. After his five-year stint in Cincy, Tate came to Buffalo where he’s spent the past two seasons (2016-2017).

With free agency a few days old, Tate was asked if he’s heard from the Bills.

“No, I haven’t heard from the Bills yet, but it’s still early,” he said. “Anything can change from hour to hour so I’m patiently waiting.”

In his two seasons with the Bills, Tate mainly served as a return man. He returned 46 punts in Buffalo, averaging 10.7 yards per return. As a kick returner, he took back 57 kicks and averaged 21.2 yards per return.

It’s uncertain whd he misses Cristiano Ronaldo.Ronaldo left Real Madrid 18 months ago for Juventus and Messi has admitted in the past he appreciated the presence of the Portuguese in the LaLiga. Messi felt Ronaldo forced him to continually improve as a player. And yesether Tate will return to Buffalo or not. One thing’s for certain, he enjoyed the past two years here.

“I felt like it went pretty good. We went to the playoffs, which was good for the organization,” he said. “I have no complaints about Buffalo. I love it up there.”

Mousa Dembele casts doubt over his Tottenham future with talks on hold until after the World Cup

content_img

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

“At the beginning of the season, I said ‘I had physical problems, I want to see at the end of the season how I feel’. That’s what the club and I decided by mutual agreement.

“If we talk about a new contract in the middle of the season, it will cost energy. Imagine that a player feels not appreciated after a disappointing proposal, it can disrupt his game.

“At this moment, I am very happy at Tottenham. I do not lie when I say that I do not think about a big transfer. I want to play a World Cup and afterwards we will see.

“Really, I’m not aware of the interest of other clubs. And, besides, I told my agent to wait for the summer to tell me about any offers. For now, I’m only focussing on Tottenham. Maybe this is my last season. Or maybe I’ll sign a new deal. We’ll see.”

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has insisted that players will only leave the club if Pochettino gives his blessing, regardless of their contract situations.

Central defender Toby Alderweireld is expected to move after his contract negotiations were put on hold and uncertainty over Dembele will concern fans.

Pochettino has hailed Dembele a “genius” and one of the best players he has ever worked with, buerbroker Franz Beckenbauer admits he’d like to see James Rodriguez stay.James is coming to the end of a two season loan at Bayern from Real Madrid and can be bought outright for €42m.However, Bayern coach Niko Kovac would prefer James be allowed tot his age and injury record mean that contract negotiations could be complicated.

His next contract represents Dembele’s last chance to earn himself a lucrative deal and the Belgian is also keen to finish his career with more medals.

Whether or ded four youngsters to his senior squad.United have officially added young players Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong and James Garner to their first team squad.Solskjaer is keen for the quarter to be heavily involved in first team matters thnot Tottenham are ready to make a big commitment to Dembele and also provide evidence they can start to star Salomon Rondon says he could rejoin the club in the future.Rondon is currently in China, where he joined former boss Rafa Benitez at Dalian Yifang. But he admits that it was not entirely his choice to leave, as Newcastle did not offer him a contwin trophies may ultimately decide whether or not an agreement is reached after the World Cup.

Regardless of Dembele’s future, Tottenham are keen to strengthen their midfield during the summer and had hoped Italy’s Bryan Cristante would play a part against England at Wembley on Tuesday night.

Spurs have been tracking Cristante, who is on loan at Atalanta from Benfica, but he was left on the substitutes’ bench by Italy. He has played all through the age groups for his country and made two senior appearances.

How excited should Arsenal be about latest group of youngsters? Scouting report from Doncaster Carabao Cup win

content_img

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

His confidence and ability going forward was evident all night, with his bursts up the right flank causing havoc in the Doncaster defence and a couple of efforts drawing smart saves from the visitors’ goalkeeper Ian Lawlor. Defensively though, Nelson was shaky and he was twice badly caught out in the second half to gift Doncaster openings that more clinical forwards would have profited from.

There was a moment in the first half that summarised the youngster’s night, when he made a mess of a clearance before moments later using his searing pace to dribble away with the ball and then play a perfectly-weighted pass up the line for Theo Walcott.

The important things to remember with Nelson are his age and inexperience. He is only 17, and prior to the summer had never played in defence. Fortunately for him, Wenger has quite the pedigree in converting naturally attacking players into excellent full-backs, including Hector Bellerin, Ashley Cole and Lauren.

With his speed, athleticism and eagerness to get involved in his side’s attacks, Nelson is in many ways the prototype Wengerian full-back. ringing and career in a new autobiography. The talented winger partnered with Simon Zwartkuis to release “Heart of a Lion” recently. In the book, Depay speaks about his high profile failure at Manchester United, his issues with Louis Van Gaal and JoseExpect to see more of him before the season is out, especially with Arsenal’s other back-up right wing-back options either on loan (Carl Jenkinson) or out of favour (Mathieu Debuchy).

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

At 20 years old and having made seven appearances last season, Ainsley Maitland-Niles is a relative veteran compared to Nelson. Maitland-Niles, a local lad who joined Arsenal at the age of six, is known for his versatility but said in the pre-match programme that he views himself as a central midfielder.

Having played as a defender for Arsenal previously, Maitland-Niles started as a left wing-back against Doncaster, which he also did against Cologne last week.

Like Nelson, it was clear early on that Maitland-Niles had more interest in attacking than defending. He got forward very effectively in the first half, and put in a number of dangerous crosses as he combined well with Alexis Sanchez down the Arsenal left.

In the second half, Maitland-Niles was more disciplined, as he recognised the need to hold his position and support the callow Josh Dasilva, who had come on at half-time in central defence. Maitland-Niles also showed superb speed and awareness to charge back and deny Alfie May after Nelson had been horribly caught out.

Wenger says that Maitland-Niles is "close" to playing more regularly, while the player himself said on Wednesday that he is targeting a few Premier League stars this season. He certainly looks ready to step up, and could offer a solution to the defensive midfield area where Arsenal look so vulnerable.

Josh Dasilva

When Calum Chambers was forced off with a hip injury at half-time, Nacho Monreal seemed the obvious choice to come on as the left-sided centre-back in the Arsenal back three. Instead Wenger turned to Josh Dasilva, an 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who only broke into the Arsenal under-21 side towards the end of last season.

Besides being physically imposing and left-footed, Dasilva – another English academy graduate – looked about as equipped for the role as the FA investigating misconduct.

His first two contributions were to pass the ball straight to an opposition player, and then get nutmegged in front of his manager. Shortly after, he got himself in a tangle and was turned by Matty Blair, before Per Mertesacker exhorted him to focus and move up alongsid Hazard will take when he arrives from Chelsea. The Sun says Hazard will wear the No 7 shirt when he finally signs for Real Madrid. The Chelsea ace wants his £115million deal wrapped up – as does Bernabeu president Florentino Perez.Even though Hazare the rest of the back three. At times it felt as though Dasilva had been brought on to give Mertesacker some practice for his role as academy manager, which he will start next season.

But as the second half wore on, Dasilva settled down and began to show his technical proficiency and comfort on the ball. He is clearly very talented, and will hn’t sabotage Chelsea’s run to the Europa League final over their pursuit of Eden Hazard.Marca says Hazard has ‘already agreed’ terms on a move to Real Madrid this summer and an announcement will be made on May 12 unless the Blues reach the Europa Leaave learned a huge amount from playing out of position, and at a level higher than what he is used to.

It would be a surprise if Dasilva’s future was at the back, but then Wenger did a similar conversion job on Kolo Toure, who arrived as a winger and became an ‘Invincible’ central defender.

Six reasons why Sam Allardyce is the right man for England

content_img

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

For all of England’s attacking talents, the defensive aspects of the game will take precedence. England would become harder to beat under Allardyce, an Club America defender Edson Alvarez. It emerged over the weekend that America had put the brakes on a move to Ajax for Alvarez as West Ham and Wolves made contact. And Record is now reporting that Palace have made an approach about a price for the Mexd as the old adage goes, if you don’t concede you will not lose.

Although England dominated possession for large spells of their matches, organisational issues accounted for 50 per cent of the goals that Roy Hodgson’s side conceded. This would not occur under Allardyce’s watch. Every player would have their defensive roles drilled into them and they would all know what is expected – to a tee.

Under Allardyce, England would have not lost concentration against Russia and defended the second phase of the set piece properly and that the diminutive .

Additionally, unlike Hodgson’s side, an weapon and would have ceased to play into it. But even if the odd throw was conceded, an Allardyce side would be aware of their ambition to win the flick on at the back post and the runner spinning off to win the second ball. Kyle Walker would have been aware of this more than most, and wouldn’t have lost Ragnar Siggoroson in the inexplicable manner he did.

Not afraid to stick to what he knows

Hardened by managerial  tenures at Blackpool, Notts County and Bolton Wanderers, Allardyce was an unflappable figure when it came to his roles at West Ham and Newcastle. While the former craved for football to be played ‘The West Ham way’, Allardyce stuck to his guns and played football in the way that had served him so well over the years. It wasn’t pretty by any means, but it was effective, and it got the East London club promoted before subsequently maintaining their status as a mid-table Premier League side – laying the foundations for Slaven Bilic to take them forward furthermore.

The same would be apparent if he was manager of England. The masses would be crying by football that they would define as attractive, but in this results driven business, and the possibility that the new manager will be paid on a performance basis, fans should expect ruthless, direct and effective football that quite simply gets the job done.

Can manage flair players

JayJay Okocha. Youri Djorkaeff. Ravel Morrison (briefly). Ricardo Vaz Te.

Playmakers flourished under the supposed rigidity of a Sam Allardyce regime. Not only were they part of the well-oiled Allardyce machine, but they were all given the freedom to shine like the lights they are.

Expect the same with the current England squad under Allarir best effort in the coming game against Brighton. The Saints are determined to get the first points of the season in the Premier League. They have suffered two defeats in the opening two games of the season, which is not a promising start for a team dyce’s guidance, with players such as Ross Barkley,  Dele Alli, Adam Lallana and Raheem Sterling thriving in the era of a new England.

Allardyce knows his best team

A large criticism of Roy Hodgson was that he didn’t know his best team. Constant changes disrupted England’s momentum at Euro 2016 and played a major role in their premature elimination.

Sam Allardyce would provide this consistency, and at this time of uncertainty, it’s exactly what England need.

Getting towards the latter stages of the season, Allardyce rarely made changes to his Sunderland team. Out of the the last eight games of the season, Allardyce named the same starting XI seven times – with the final game of the season being an anomaly as they had secured Premier League survival by this point.

It’s therefore no surprise that Sunderland formed their best run during this period, only losing once in that period, and picking up 12 points – winning against Chelsea and drawing against Arsenal in this period.

Getting the best out of players at his disposal

Allardyce hasn’t managed football’s most industrious clubs, but he has a track record of getting the best out of his players and over achieving as a result.

At Bolton Wanderers, he galvanised the likes of Ricardo Gardener and Per Frandsen to play a key role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2001 and even helped them establish themselves as players capable of playing in the top flight. Kevin Nolan grew into a lynchpin. Michael Ricketts even won an England cap under Big Sam’s tutelage. His biggest achievement was guiding Bolton to last 16 of the Uefa Cup after guiding the club to seventh the season before.

Similarly, he oversaw the resurgence of Carlton Cole at West Ham while helping the likes of Jack Collison and Mark Noble to progress and play a key role in their promotion back to the Premier League.

In a similar way to knowing his best XI, Allardyce would be able to motivate and inspire the England team should he be chosen to be the next manager. As proven in the past, he will under-promise and then over-perform, and take England to further heights than achieved under Roy Hodgson.

Innovative

At Bolton, Allardyce became one of the first managers in the Premier League to embrace the new technology era. After ProZone was rolled out in 1995, Allardyce was one of the first managers to use it, and it became a prominent part of his traindre Silva. After a difficult loan spell at Sevilla last season, Silva has been put up for sale by the Rossonero. While reluctant to leave for Wolves, the striker is prepared to listen to what they have to say.Gazzetta dello Sport says Wolves are leanining methods during Bolton’s early days  in the Premier League.

This methodical nature and the obsession with statistics signalled a new era in football, and while many ridiculed this new concept, Allardyce continued to thrive with the new information at his disposal.

It’s this kind of innovation and freshness that the England side need. Too often, they have been stuck in an inertia with the aim of being traditional. England need people with new thinking, new ideas and new ambitions, and they should be allowed to do it their way. With all of these things in mind, Allardyce would be the idea candidate for the job.

Roberto Martinez losing battle to save Everton job after questioning ‘desire’ of his players

Having earlier seemed secure until at least the final home against Norwich City next Sunday, Martinez could now be gone sooner. The Everton board knows theelder Youri Tielemans.Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers has told the board he wants Tielemans to remain at the club permanently after his impressive loan stint during the second half of the season at the King Power.Rodgers wants a deal completed as soon manager will face a hostile environment if he is still in charge at the end of this week.

As Martinez seeks a reprieve from the concerned Goodison hierarchy, rival candidates are manoeuvring into position with Ajax’s Frank De Boer publicly declaring his interest in the post.

Another dire performance has threatened to wreck Everton’s hopes of finishing in the top-half of the Premier League.

The Spaniard faced renewed calls for his dismissal from a mutinous travelling support and there appeared to be friction with midfielder Ross Barkley, who stormed down the tunnel after being substituted late in the game.

Martinez’s post-match press conference lasted only 104 seconds and he later insisted that Wednesday’s trip to Sunderland is now their biggest game of the season.

Sunderland could secure survival with a victory at the Stadium of Light but Martinez has demanded a response as he fights for his future.

“There is a lot riding on the game for us after the performance we had today, we need to react and we need to perform in the highest possible level,” he said.

“It is good that we have a game around the corner but the importance of our performance is as big as you could feel we had in any other day in the season. I expect to have a performance on Wednesday.

“We played last week and we had all the attributes you need to win a football game. Today is a contrasting performance, we got caught up into what was a celebration for the home team and we didn’t look ready.

“A young player who could maybe have been caught by the occasion was Matty Pennington and he was the only player who played with intent, with meaning and desire and it is a shame no one else on the pitch could match that focus.”

A ‘Martinez Out’ banner was unfurled in the away end towards the end of the game and Everton’s season has been one of dismal underachievement.

After losing the FA Cup semi-final Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis admits they were outbid by Arsenal for Nicolas Pepe. The Gunners paid €80m last week to land the Lille striker last week.De Laurentiis told Sky Italia: “I made an important offer for Pepé, but we have not managed to get him. “Arsenal has five times the income of Napoli, so they will have simply offered him more money. “No matter, we will find another Pepe.”against Manchester United, Martinez was targeting a top-ten finish as a means of saving the campaign. That now looks unlikely and supporter has been ebbing away at boardroom level.

Farhad Moshiri, the new major shareholder, has pledged to invest millions this summer but it noster City are at risk of a Champions League ban.The Mirror says City could reportedly face a Champions League ban if they are found guilty of financial irregularities. The Premier League champions have been under investigation by a regulatory committew seems certain Martinez will not be the man to take the club forward.

He also knows others are coveting the post and the board is assessing its options.

Ajax coach De Boer’s agent says his client would love to join Everton. He would be under consideration, alongside others of the calibre of Southampton’s Ronald Koeman.

“He would love to join a club like Everton or Valencia,” said De Boer’s agent Guido Albers. “It’s all about the right philosophy and how they play football. That is what Frank is looking for.”

Florida Citrus Sports, the organization responsible for hosting the Camping World Kickoff Classic, the Camping World Bowl and the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, has been aggressive in securing high-profile neutral-site matchups since the completion of the renovations to Camping World Stadium in 2015. Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan said earlier this month that the group hopes to be included in the next round of bidding when the two schools look to secure its host sites for 2023-28.

According to Hogan, Orlando was one of the cities included in the last bidding window for Army-Navy but scheduling conflicts prevented their ability to contend for the game. The Orlando area is already a hotbed for football during the month of December, not to mention the tourism advantages of planning a weekend getaway in Florida as opposed to somewhere further north.

“The opportunity to return to LSU is truly unique,” Pelini said. “Culturally, with my prior experience at LSU, I know it is a great fit for me. Landing No. 1 seed drastically improves LSU’s College Football Playoff title chances, projection model shows

content_img

jumped above to the No. 1 spot in the final Playoff rankings that were released on Sunday, which earned them a game against No. 4 rather than No. 3 . The debate on which top team would avoid facing Clemson was one of the more intriguing storylines on Sunday morning and statistics suggest that the Tigers are far more likely to win the national championship now than they were heading into championship weekend.

Stephen Oh, the principal data engineer for SportsLine, crunched the numbers and determined the simulated percentage to win the national championship based on the matchups and computer-generated statistics.

TeamSimulated national title % (Last week)Simulated national title % (This week)DifferenceLSU25%40.7%+15.7%Ohio State32%28.8%-3.2%Clemson26%27.1%+1.1%Oklahoma3%3.4%+0.4%

Why is there such a big gap between LSU and the field? The matchup vs. the Sooners is the biggest reason.

“The odds-makers agree that facing Oklahoma is a huurprised fullback Charlie Taylor is attracting transfer interest.Taylor has been linked with Leicester City this week.”I think he is a very good player,” Dyche told LancsLive. He added: “We want players to develop here regardless of contracts but whenge benefit to LSU,” Oh said. “A week ago LSU was 3/1 to win the championship so the’s enjoying his partnership with Fred. The pair were impressive for victory over Tottenham last night.McTominay told MUTV: “He’s such a nice guy and we have that connection on the pitch, and it’s just a pleasure to play alongside him. We’re getting eir implied percentage improved from 25% to 41.7%.”

That’s quite the jump considering Clemson rolled in the ACC Championship Game and Ohio State overcame a sluggish start to run away from in the Big Ten Championship Game. Of course, some of that jump was caused by LSU’s win over then-No. 4 in the SEC Championship Game. But it’s a stretch to say that the win over the Bulldogs caused that much of a move.

Another interesting nugget is that Oklahoma’s simulated chances only went up 0.4% despite and both beGunnar Solskjaer lacks leaders in his side.Fletcher was speaking after Solskjaer’s young United outfit were put to the sword by Manchester City in the first-leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at Old Trafford.Speaking after the 3-1 defeat, Fletcher sing in the mix last week. Booze, transfers among eight discussion points at the 2019 SEC spring meetings

content_img

On a spit of white sand beach, the SEC will decide the current and future state of the league. In other words, it’s time for the annual spring meetings in Destin, Florida.

The league conducts these meetings at resort on the Florida Panhandle with a view of the Gulf of Mexico. Those meetings begin formally on Tuesday with an ocean breeze and a full agenda. Focus, boys and girls, paradise can wait until the end of business hours.

Here are eight things you should keep an eye on as the SEC spring meetings go down this week in Destin.

Hard liners gasped a little when the NCAA, two weeks ago, . The moving target that is amateurism will be a key discussion point in Destin. The basic argument is whether student-athletes — like their Olympic counterparts — can profit from their basic sense of self.

The Olympics decided 30 years ago that its athletes could still be considered amateurs despite allowing them to do commercials. Those ratings-grabbing figure skaters, gymnasts and skiers didn’t turn off a soul because they appeared in an airline commercial.

What does that look like in the college space? Think of Tua Tagovailoa doing a local car commercial or DeAndre Swift getting a little somethin’, somethin’ for his autograph. You’d better believe the SEC will begin significant discussions on what it all means. This is a league that lost its collective mind in 2015 when cost of attendance was implemented. Back then, the concern was, God forbid, Auburn players get $100 more per month than their Alabama counterparts — or vice versa.

will no doubt hang over the meetings. Bramblett and his wife were killed in a car accident over the weekend, leaving a school and a conference in mourning. Bramblett had been the football “Voice of the Tigers” since 2003. He leaves behind two wonderful children, Shelby and Joshua. There have been many great voices of SEC football. Their shared contribution is to those who have no other way to follow their teams except through those unique voices. We should never forget Bramblett’s famous call of the Pick Six.

The SEC West is apparently the place to be for administrators, too. Scott Woodward and Ross Bjork will be at their first SEC meetings since changing jobs within the West Division. Woodward, a New Orleans native, came “home” to LSU from Texas A&M. On Friday, Bjork left Ole Miss — where he had been for eight years — to take the opening at TAMU. For those of you scoring at home, that leaves the latest SEC West opening at Ole Miss.

If it’s all about money — and frequently it is all about money — the SEC has some work to do. The Big Ten earlier this month announced a 48 percent increase in revenue, making the Larter City to “achieve something fantastic”.The Foxes, who were surprise champions under Claudio Ranieri in 2015-16, are third with Brendan Rodgers in charge.”Leicester have a spine of the team that is experienced – in Jonny Evans, Jamie Vardy and Kaspge 14 the richest conference in history — by far. This means a lot to the SEC, if only from a pride standpoint. The two leagues have separated themselves from the rest of college sports in terms of money … and championships. The leagues have combined for 10 of the last 13 football national titles. (OK, the SEC has nine of those.)

It was 10 years ago that Nick Saban won his first national championship at Alabama. That started a run of five titles in a decade. Is 2019, will it be a continuation of the same, or was the Clemson game a sign of things to come?

Among coaches, the 7-month-old . It isn’t going away, but that won’t stop the league’s coaches from weighing in. A couple of years ago, anticipating more transfer freedom, Saban said, “Am I going to have to change the way I coach?” The answer is the same for all coaches: Yeah, maybe. At least check 106 SEC football players had put their name in the portal. That’s an average of more than 7.5 per school.

Schools long ago began serving alcohol at sporting events nationwide. The total now stands at approximately 55 FBS schools that serve alcohol at games. The SEC remains an outlier. It is the only major conference that has a policy against alcohol sales to the general public. Social mores have loosened. The NCAA now allows drinkage at its championship events. The SEC — in the heart of the Bible Belt — has been slow to change, but truths have emerged.

Alcohol is a significant revenue source that can be controlled. Former West Virginia AD Oliver Luck proved it when he argued that limiting beer and wine inside the stadium (two drinks per visit) were better than fans binge-drinking at halftime. The West Virginia model is 8 years old. (Security officials actually used to have a “Code Vomit” to identify out-of-control drinking in the stands before it was regulated.)  The SEC’s no-booze policy dates back to at least 1978, according to Sports Illustrated. There will be significant discussion this week in Destin about opening up the spigots. Time for a toast?

, the SEC continued its image makeover. If nothinproblems between Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann. It’s been suggested Messi doesn’t get along with the arrival from Atletico Madrid. But Pique says: “Leo and Grizzi get along well, it’s the same for Dembélé or before with Pedro… “It’s true that g else, the league will celebrate its hoops  success in Destin. Having one-quarter of the Sweet 16 hadn’t happened in the SEC in 22 years. Auburn made a Cinderella run to the Final Four.

The general upgrade in basketball fortunes means more pressure to win. Six of the 14 SEC schools have changed coaches in the last two seasons — four in the last couple of months. Alabama snagged up-and-comer Nate Oates from Buffalo. Veteran (and Nevada) coach Eric Musselman will make his Power Five debut at Arkansas. Buzz Williams left Virginia Tech for Texas A&M. Jerry Stackhouse takes over at Vanderbilt after the surprising firing of Bryce Drew.

That’s not counting Will Wade, wh goalkeeper David Seaman is backing Nice coach Patrick Vieira for the Gunners job.Arsenal are starting their search for a new manager for only the second time in 23 years after sacking Unai Emery. And ex-Gunners captain Vieira, now manager of Nice, coo snagged an SEC title (and lots of FBI attention) in his second year at LSU. Kentucky remains the team to beat, but it definitely has some competition.

Stanford vs. Arizona State odds, line: Picks, predictions from proven expert who’s 8-1 on Sun Devils and Cardinal games

content_img

The Week 8 college football schedule includes an early dose of Pac-12 action on Thursday night when the host the at 9 p.m. ET. Stanford can keep pace with in the North Division with a victory, while the Sun Devils will take a needed step toward bowl eligibility if they pull off the upset. Stanford opened as a three-point favorite, but is laying 2.5 in the latest Stanford vs. Arizona State odds. The over-under, or total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, has shot up over a touchdown from 51.5 to 59. Before locking in your Stanford vs. Arizona State picks, listen to what SportsLine expert Emory Hunt has to say.

Hunt is the founder and CEO of Football Gameplan, which has been supplying analysis of all levels of football since 2007. The former running back joined SportsLine in 2016 and has put his stamp on .

His expertise has earned him the nickname “The Czar of the Playbook,” and Hunt already has spent endless hours breaking down the rosters of FBS clubs. With his Thursday night selection, he is looking to build on an incredible 8-1 mark on spread picks involving either Arizona State or Stanford. Anyone who has followed him is up big.

In Week 2 Hunt advised SportsLine members to back Stanford as a six-point favorite against rebuilding . The Cardinal defense led the way to a dominating 17-3 victory, and anyone who followed Hunt’s advice picked up an easy winner.

Now, Hunt has scrutinized Stanford vs. Arizona State from every possible angle to reveal a strong point-spread pick that he’s sharing only at SportsLine.

Hunt knows that in the early going, Stanford benefited from attacking defenking fresh investment in WolvesBirminghamLive reports the Chinese conglomerate took control of Wolves three years ago after buying out Steve Morgan and the club’s ascent towards the upper echelons of English football under their ownership has been rases that were prepared to limit the effectiveness of Heisman Trophy hopeful . The Cardinal took advantage of single coverage and quarterback K.J. Costello made several big plays in the passing game. Costello is fourth in the Pac-12 with 1,611 passing yards and is completing 62.6 percent of Callum Hudson-Odoi says England players now feel empowered to walk off the pitch after the disgraceful scenes in Sofia on Monday.England’s 6-0 win over Bulgaria had to be stop twice as racist chants sounded across the stadium. And Hudson-Odoi says thehis attempts.

But Stanford has been hampered by the lingering ankle injury to Love, who was limited in the loss to and sat out last week’s loss to . Without Love, the Cardinal mustered just 42 rushing yards against the physical Utes. Love is listed as questionable for Thursday night’s game.

Stanford beat Arizona State by 10 last year, but that doesn’t guarantee it will cover Thursday against a Sun Devils club that is looking for a turnaround of its own.

Hunt also knows many observers questioned the offseason hiring of former coach Herm Edwards to lead ASU, but he did a lot to silence doubters in the early season. In Week 2, ths in doubt. The Mirror says City are yet to start talks with the £48million defender about a new contract.Stones, 25, expected to be offered fresh terms by City this season, with two years left on his current deal. But negotiations have still not stare Sun Devils knocked off Big Ten contender 16-13 as a six-point home underdog. That same Michigan State team beat on the road last Saturday.

In its last outing, Arizona State (3-3) took previously-unbeaten to the wire before the Buffaloes prevailed 28-21.

We can tell you Hunt is leaning toward the Under, but he has identified the crucial X-factor that makes one side of the spread a must-back. He’s only sharing it at SportsLine.

Clemson vs. Georgia Tech: Prediction, pick, odds, line, TV channel, live stream, watch online

content_img

One way or another each year since 2005, the annual cross-division rivalry between No. 3  and  has been a major factor in the ACC championship race. The Tigers and Yellow Jackets have combined to appear in the ACC Championship Game nine times in that 12-year span, though it has been Clemson dominating the league — and this rivalry — over the last three seasons.

The Tigers have won three straight games againnst West Ham United was down to an increase in confidence. The Brazilian received the ball from Theo Walcott on the edge of the penalty box and went on a mazy run to score the opening goal in the 2-0 victory.Asked if he was intent on firing off a shotst the Jackets and six of the last eight regular-season meetings between the teams. Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables’ unit is not only loaded with talent, it seems to have Georgia Tech’s offense completely figured out, holding the Yellow Jackets to just 17 combined points in the last two meetings.

Storylines

Avoid the upset. Clemson is playing the long game right now, favored (often heavily) against every opponent on its schedule and trying to establish a championship-level focus and the kind of habits that could be the difference in a Playoff game. That said, recent losses against (2017) and (2016) have proven that Clemson is not only far from unbeatable in ACC play but just a few plays away from having those playoff chances altered dramatically. If there’s a spot on the schedule where Clemson might be vulnerable, playing on the road against an all-too-familiar rival loSports says Bentaleb is on Tyneside having a medical with Newcastle, ahead of a loan move from Schalke, which is managed by former Huddersfield boss David Wagner.Bentaleb has had an agreement with Wagner to seek a move away from S04 since before Chrioks looks to be it — at least enough so to get Clemson’s full, undivided attention.

This is a very crucial part of the season for Georgia Tech to avoid making the 2018 campaign the third time in four years that the Yellow Jackets did not finish the season in a bowl game. Ever since going 11-3 in 2014 and beating in the Orange Bowl, Georgia Tech has been 18-21 and failed to finish with a winning record in ACC play. The setbacks this year have already started piling up: back-to-back close losses to USF and Pitt, injuries to star offensive players and now the potential of starting the year 1-3 with thrNew Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri has revealed he has plans for Federico Bernardeschi.Sarri admits he’s a big fan of the midfielder. He stated, “Everyone knows I like this lad, ever since Fiorentina-Napoli. “He is well-organised, has talent, but lacks a little bit of consistency from game to game.“I think this is the moment of his career where he needs to play consistently in one single role.”ee top-25 teams left on the schedule. Paul Johnson said this week it’s time to pull yourself up by your boot straps, so what kind of response will the Yellow Jackets have for the Tigers?

Game prediction, picks

Too many points here in a game where I expect Georgia Tech to play well with its back against the wall. Clemson knows it doesn’t need style points, it just needs wins, and it can ride the defense to another low-scoring victory.
