Bills Today: Buffalo's newest safety eager to play with Hyde and Poyer

content_img

The Bills wasted no time adding depth at the safety position, as they signed Rafael Bush on the first day of the 2018 free agency period. He joins one of the best safe Vardy.Vardy appeared to collect a hamstring injury during their 4-1 rout of West Ham.But Rodgers said, “It is not his hamstring which is good. Hopefully over the next couple of days it will ease off and he will be fit.”Jamie is a real talisman for tty duos in the NFL from a season ago.

Bush mentioned that he’s antsy to play with Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. In 2017, that tandem combined for 10 interceptions, more than any pair of safeties in the league.

“Well, I’m just looking forward to working with those two guys. As a tandem last year, I think they had maybe, what, 10 interceptions?” said Bush. “As a unit last year, the secondary was pretty good. I’m just here to kind of just bring my skill set to the team and help in whatever way I can.”

Bush has made plays in a variety of ways at safety throughout his seven-year career. In 76 career games (18 starts), he’s tallied 190 tackles, 13 passes defended, three interceptions, three fumble recoveries, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one defensive touchdown.

As a fellow safety, it’s come natural for Bush tracking the success of Hyde and Poyer.

“I think just being a safety, you look at other safeties around the league, so that’s kind of natural for guys, myself included,” he said. “Watching those guys play together, I’ve been watching Micah Hyde in Green Bay for some years, and I always thought he was a great player.

“Poyer was one of those guys that was a special teams player at first. I kind of can relate to that, being that myself, and then kind of getting the opportunity to play and making the most of his opportunities. I respect that, so like I said, I’m excited to work with those guys and can’t wait to get to work.”

The Bills undoubtedly inherited a winner with their latest quarterback signing. Former Alabama Crimson Tide signal-caller, AJ McCarron, has three BCS National Championship rings to his name.

So, what does the newest Bills QB do with those championship rings?

“Mine, I give them to my family. My uncle has one, my dad has one and my grandpa has one,” said McCarron. “I don’t ever wear one. I play just because I love playing the game. I let them enjoy all that.”

In McCarron’s four seasons at Alabama, he posted some absurd numbers. In 53 games, he threw for 9,019 yards, 77 touchdowns, and only 15 interceptions.

McCarron got his first national championship ring in 2009 when he was redshirting as a true freshman and the Crimson Tide went 14-0. The quarterback had a much more significant role in earning his last two championship rings. He was named the Offensive Player of the Game in ‘Bama’s 2011 national title-winning performance in a 21-0 win over LSU.

He then followed that up with another national title the following season as Alabama routed Notre Dame 42-14 for the 2012 national championship.

Tate joined on Thursday to discuss his free agency process.

“I’m in Cincinnati right now,” he said. “Right now, I’m working out and I’ve got a couple of teams interested, but nothing is official yet. I’m just working out and hanging with my wife and my kids.”

Tate, a nine-year veteran in the NFL, has played with three different teams in his career. His first two years (2009-2010) were with the New England Patriots. After his time with the Pats, he went on to play five seasons (2011-2015) for the Cincinnati Bengals. After his five-year stint in Cincy, Tate came to Buffalo where he’s spent the past two seasons (2016-2017).

With free agency a few days old, Tate was asked if he’s heard from the Bills.

“No, I haven’t heard from the Bills yet, but it’s still early,” he said. “Anything can change from hour to hour so I’m patiently waiting.”

In his two seasons with the Bills, Tate mainly served as a return man. He returned 46 punts in Buffalo, averaging 10.7 yards per return. As a kick returner, he took back 57 kicks and averaged 21.2 yards per return.

It’s uncertain whd he misses Cristiano Ronaldo.Ronaldo left Real Madrid 18 months ago for Juventus and Messi has admitted in the past he appreciated the presence of the Portuguese in the LaLiga. Messi felt Ronaldo forced him to continually improve as a player. And yesether Tate will return to Buffalo or not. One thing’s for certain, he enjoyed the past two years here.

“I felt like it went pretty good. We went to the playoffs, which was good for the organization,” he said. “I have no complaints about Buffalo. I love it up there.”

Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore to stand down after almost 20 years in charge at end of year

content_img

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

Scudamore has put collective bargaining at the heart of his reign ensuring that the league’s competitiveness has been maintained by a meritocratic sharing of the vast spoils of the television revenue generated from the like of Sky, BT Sport and a huge range of overseas broadcasters.

His successor, who is yet to be appointed, will never be able to wield that kind of influence over the competing forces in the Premier League. One of Scudamore’s last acts was to announce a new revenue-sharing agreement for overseas broadcast deals which are growing quicker than the value of the domestic rights and were previously shared equally among the 20 clubs.

He announced the sale of the two remaining broadcast packages to BT Sport and Amazon Prime, the first partner from among the big streaming corporations. Scudamore leaves with the domestic market finally slowing down having seen astonishing growth in the current cycle of rights, from 2016-2019. The clubs are said to have been reluctant to see him go but accepted his decision.

Were the likes of Manchester United, especially, and also Liverpool and Arsenal to go alone in the future and negotiate their own television deals there would be little doubt that the league’s general competitiveness would be lost forever preseason. The Belgian says he’s fit and ready following a 2018/19 campaign interrupted by injuries.”I’m fine,” De Bruyne said after the 3-1 win against Yokohama F. Marinos, in which he netted the opener.”What happened last year happtheir Melwood training ground. The Athletic reports Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher will captain teams next summer in the last ever match to be played at the club’s Melwood training ground. The Reds are moving into a new training fens to everybody.. Scudamore has kept them all in line by reminding shareholders that it is the power of the collective to provide competition every weekend that is the great strength of the Premier League.

He will see his greatest achievement as turning the league into the most lucrative in the world. He also pushed through the Elite Player Performance Plan which underpins youth development in the professional game’s academy system. He persuaded the clubs to adopt the £30 cap for away tickets. The league also pays around £100 million to community and grassroots programmes a year, including its Football Foundation charity, a.Allegri announced his departure last week amid claims of losing the trust of president Andrea Agnelli, along with directors Pavel Nedved and to a lesser extent Fabio Paratici.Allegri said, “We talked, expressed our ideas on what was best for Juvennd another £100 million in solidarity payments to the Football League.

His reign has not been without controversy. His proposal in February 2008 to play a 39th game overseas was conceived to give smaller clubs with little global appeal a share of the Premier League’s huge international audience. Instead it backfired and cast him as the enemy of English football. He was embroiled in a leaked email scandal in 2014.

A Bristol City supporter who previously worked for the Football League, Scudamore has seen the sea-change in ownership from largely British families to a range of the planet’s super-rich. It is his organisation that has investigated the fitness of these owners to buy clubs and tried to keep them on the same page when it comes to their responsibilities to the rest of football.

Buck said that the search for Scudamore’s successor had begun and the new man or woman will be expected to navigate a very different pay-TV market that is likely to feature more streaming platforms like Amazon. Scudamore said that he would spend more time watching his club Bristol City, still yet to play in the Premier League. He said he has no plans to retire.

The Bills pro and college scouting departments are filling up quickly. On Thursday the team announced the hiring of Marvin Allen and Brian Adams as National Scouts.

“Both men are veterans in this league. They’ve been in it for a long time,” said Bills GM Brandon Beane. “It’s the same thing as players, we want to grow and develop. Allen has spent the last four years as the Director of College Scohis style of play. The now retired Bulgarian was always a polarising figure among fans of the club, as some felt his style was too lazy compared to forwards Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney. But Berbatov considers himself “an artist on the pitch” and had uting for the Kansas City Chiefs. A 24-year veteran in NFL scouting, he also spent five years scouting for the Atlanta Falcons, serving as a National Scout after a few years as a regional scout.

“Marvin started in the 90’s. He’s most recently been a college (scouting) director so he’s sat in that seat,” Beane said. “He’s going to be a great resource not only for me, but for all our college scouts.”

Adams has more than 30 years of scouting experience. He spent the 2016 campaign as the Midwest regional scout for the Dallas Cowboys, but spent seven years with the Saints. He also has a working history with Beane, spending seven years in the Panthers scouting department.

“I worked with Brian in Carolina. We had a long history there,” said Beane. “Brian went to the Saints to take a promotion to Assistant Director of College Scouting, and was most recently with Dallas. He’s a veteran in scouting and well respected across the league. I look forward to reuniting with him.”

Southampton 0 Man City 3: Vincent Kompany inspires hard-earned win for efficient City

content_img

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

As days at the office go, few can have been more satisfying for Pep Guardiola than this. No wonder he wore a full beam grin at the end.

“I’m so, so happy,” the Manchester City manager exuded. “I’m so happy for the players, it was so important for them ahead of the [FA Cup] semi-final.”

A week before his side face Arsenal at Wembley, everything went right for him and City. Three points were secured in pursuit of a Champions League place, three goals were scored, a clean sheet was preserved.

Here is how pleasing this trip to the south coast was for the Spaniard: his goalkeeper actually pulled off a save. Yes, for the first time since Jan 2, Claudio Bravo successfully managed to get in the way of a goal-bound effort, throwing himself at a header from Maya Yashida and falling to the turf, the ball grasped to his chest. “Bravo, Bravo” sang the visiting supporters, jovially aware of the significance of the moment.

Brisk, efficient, clever as they were, what will have pleased the City manager all the more was the industry with which his team went about their task. Effort was everywhere on display. Not least from Sergio Agüero. Statistically this is the brilliant Argentine’s worst ever Premier League season. Statistics, though, are relative things: he had scored 10 goals in 10 games in all competitions before this. And boy was he busy here, determined to help City improve on their record of only one win from their last five visits to St Mary’s. He had volleyed the ball wide from Gaël Clichy’s swerving cross, hit a shot past the post after Kevin De Bruyne found him in space, then misdirected a sledgehammer drive from the edge of the area all within the first eight minutes.

But City’s early failure to capitalise on superior possession seemed to inspire their hosts. Brilliant work by Nathan Redmond and Manolo Gabbiadini created an opening for Dusan Tadic, alone and unmarked on the edge of the City box. His shot, however, was ballooned well over the bar. Which must have frustrated his manager Claude Puel, watching from his technical area.

Just put it somewhere near the City goal would have been the lament. After all, that is all you generally need to do when Bravo is playing: the City goalkeeper had arrivet McNeil. The 19-year-old broke into the first-team last season, making 21 Premier League appearances and scoring three times.Dyche believes McNeil will one day move to an elite club, and praised the player’s attitude.“He remains very humble, he remd on the south coast with the unenviable record of conceding goals from the last seven shots on target he had faced.

But there were few of such things here: Southampton rarely came close to testing him. And the reason for that was largely the identity of the man playing in front of Bravo. Vincent Kompany, after a wretched, injury-plagued four months, was back. His first intervention – cool, calm and perfectly executed – spoke volumes for what his absence has meant.

“We miss him a lot,” admitted Guardiola.

“He’s a real defender. No doubt about that. We are so happy he is coming back and hopefully we can keep care of him for the rest of the season.”

It was not just the skipper’s tackles and organisational nous that stood out. It was from his boot that many a City attack began.

One burst started by him concluded with Leroy Sané darting into the area. As the quicksilver forward approached the Southampton goal, from the stands it appeared Fraser Forster had clipped his ankle rather than the ball as he dived at his feet. The referee was not interested, however, preferring to award City a corner.

“I thought it was a penalty,” said Guardiola. “But Sané tells me it was not a penalty. He is a German, so I believe him.”

Not that it mattered. City, in total control of possession, continued to surge forward. And after 55 minutes the effervescent Agüero was fouled on the edge of the area. When De Bruyne’s smart free kick was cleared, the ball fell to Jesús Navas, midway inside the Southampton half. His excellent shot, seemingly destined for the back of the net, was saved at full length by Forster. From the resulting corner, who else but Kompany came barrelling in to rise above Ryan Betrand and power a header past the keeper. It was his first goal since August 2015. No wonder he celebrated with such vigour in front of the ecstatic City fans.

To the home supporters’ disappointment, Puel responded by substituting the local hero Gabbiadini. In truth, the Italian who has made such an impression since his arrival in January, did not look fully up to speed after his injury lay-off. Shane Long replaced him, and was soon involved in a fifty-fifty tussle with Kompany. As the entire visiting section held its breath, it was the Belgian who emerged unscathed from the fray, while a hobbling Long was substituted himself.

Here was concrete proof that everything was going City’s way. And as Southampton pushed for an equaliser, they left themselves exposed to the visitors’ rocket-fuelled pace on the break. They were duly punished when De Bruyne accelerated forward and pl to land a bumper boot deal. The Sun says Maguire, the world’s most expensive defender, has NO footwear deal despite his £85million move to Manchester United. But Nike, Adidas, Puma and Under Armour want him on a long-term contract worth £700,000-a-sayed in Sané, whose sharp finish left Forster marooned. Agüero then got his just reward for his industry – not to mention his eleventh goal in eleven matches – when he met De Bruyne’s adroitly chipped cross for the third.

Now come Arsenal. And after that, the Manchester derby. City’s form – and their skipper – have returned at precisely the right star, who is currently participating in the UEFA Nations League Finals with his country, is a wanted man.Fernandes is valued at roughly £71million by his club, with City and United bought thought to have an interest. However, A Bola suggest that Cittime.

Aguero off, Iheanacho on. This game is dead though so I can’t see him adding to his already impressive goalscoring record.

A perfect counter-attack! City win the ball, hit one touch passes, De Bruyne moves in behind and is clean through, then spots Sane for the finish.

And just look at how attacking City’s shape has been all match:

Southampton are now starting to press high up the pitch. Balls into the box are being aimed at Bravo… they’ve spotted a weakness.

That’s Kompany’s goal. Meanwhile, City have been piling on the pressure. Aguero goes close and catches Forster at the near post, Silva can’t convert from the loose ball.

It’s Kompany! Superb header from a well timed run! City draw first blood and it’s from a corner.

AND SANE IS THROUGH ON GOAL NOW! The keeper comes out, Sane drops the shoulder, goes around him and…. goes down! Is that a penalty?

The referee says no but the replay says yes! Toure heads over at the back post from the corner.

Graham Poll says: "Clear penalty, Forster doesn’t get any of the ball. Definite penalty but no card."

More danger for City and Bravo is directly involved! The keeper comes way off his line to deal with crosses into the box, palms one away and is then fortunate his defenders block the follow up shot.

What is it with City controlling games before conceding?

And another chance for Aguero! He turns Stephens in the box and shoots low to the back post… dragging his shot just wide!

"He was perfect in Stamford Bridge and no physical problems and it was so demanding for him and he’s ready to play. John Stones is injured, we’ll know what it is in next few days.

"Every day, every game decide what I see. I’m not a manager who blame the reasons why we have success on different situations. We talk always what we can do to improve, I try to be a good human being Monday to Saturday but Sunday I am a football manager."

Bravo, Clichy, Kompany (c), Otamendi, Fernandinho, Toure, Sane, Silva, De Bruyne, Navas, Aguero

What is the team news?

The returns of Manolo Gabbiadini and Steven Davis mean Southampton have a near fully-fit squad for Saturday’s Premier League visit of Manchester City.

Manager Claude Puel is yet to decide whether either will start, but their presence in his squad leaves Charlie Austin – close to returning from an injured shoulder – and Virgil van Dijk, who has an injured foot, as his only major absentees.

Beyond those two, only Matt Targett and Alex McCarthy are unavailable due to to hamstring injuries.

Team from: Forster, Taylor, Cedric, Martina, Pied, Yoshida, Stephens, Caceres, Bertrand, McQueen, Romeu, Hojbjerg, Davis, Clasie, Ward-Prowse, Tadic, Boufal, Redmond, Rodriguez, Long, Gabbiadini.

Pep Guardiola is waiting on fitness updates on two of his centre-backs. Their win over Hull last weekend was achieved with John Stones and Aleks Kolarov as the central pairing. Stones has become a key player for City in recent weeks and Kolarov took his place alongside the England man with Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi not fit enough to be named in the XI.

Kompany, who turned 31 earlier this week, needs to prove he can put his injury woes behind him and still be a valued member of the squad.

Any interesting match stats?

How are the below for you…

City have only picked up eight points out of a possible 18 in past six games.Saints full-back Jeremy Pied is fit after seven months out injured.City striker Aguero has scored 10 goals in 10 games.Southampton centre-back pairing of Yoshida and Stephens conceded 10 goals in eight league games they have played together.

What are they saying?

"We know the next game against Manchester City is a strong challenge, a great team, but it’s better to play against Manchester City after two wins, as it gives us confidence.

"We play at home and, with the support of the fans, we can do fantastic work against them."

"I want to win trophies. I hope we can lift something for us and the fans this year.

"All this year, we’ve been fighting for something… The FA Cup is a big target for us this year. We’re looking forward to it.

"I’m the type of player that always wants to win. In football, sometimes you can lose or draw. We want to always be at the top but we want to keep on going… We play Southampton and we’ll try and win that game."

What are the odds?

Man City 8/11

Southampton 4/1

Draw 13/5

What’s our prediction?

Southampton are unbeaten in three winning their last two matches against West Brom and Crystal Palace while Manchester City have had a sticky spell recently.

City need to win to enhance their hopes of a top-four finish but Puel’s men will not be a pushover. We’re going for a 2-2 draw here.

Mary Wilson helps impact girls with sports

content_img

Saturday, Mary Wilson and the Buffalo Bills celebrated the eighth annual Westerto Nicolas Pepe to edge ahead in the race for the Lille striker.Pepe will sign a five-year contract at Arsenal having been offered wages of £105,000 a week after at one stage it looked like he would be heading to Italy, says the Arsenal-Nicolas-Pepen New York Girls in Sports program. The platform, founded by Mary Wilson, wife of Buffalo Bills Owner Ralph Wilson Jr., began in 2006 with tr Inter beat Serie C side Gozzano 2-0 on Sunday. He struck four goals on his Inter debut last weekend, but the focus since then has been on his weight.Nonetheless, the striker went some way towards answering critics as he started up top with Lautaro Mhe goal of enriching young girl’s lives with sports.

“It’s become more than I ever expected,” said Wilson. “For many of the girls, it’s their first time attending, many of them could have come a total of eight times. I’m hoping that even a little bit makes an impact.”

The WNY Girls in Sports program, hosted in partnership with the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County and the Girl Scout Council of WNY invites 250 Buffalo Public School girls ages 9-12 from “Closing the Gap” schools to the Buffalo Bills Healthy Zone Fieldhouse for an afternoon of sports.

Girls rotate in stations around the Bills Healthy Zone Fieldhouse trying old sports and learning new ones, from soccer, golf, track, volleyball, and tennis, to basketball, agility exercises, Double Dutch and Zumba.

Wilson, who has always been active in sports began the program to teach adolescents the life lessons that sports offers. Mary learned the structure sports provides at an early age. At age 60, she was the top ranked tennis player in the country. Today, she loves to share her passion with the girls, helping them learn core qualities such as discipline, sportsmanship and working as a team.

“Sports impact your whole life,” Wilson told buffalobills.com. “Learning how to work together… there are a lot of times you’re going to lose in life and you need to be able to move forward from there. There’s no doubt that for me sports has given me more than I have given it, and this is my way to pay it back.”

The program coincides with the NFL and Buffalo Bills PLAY 60 initiative, encouraging kids to get out and play at least 60 minutes per day.

“Whether it’s running or going to the gym, sports makes a difference, and affects you in a positive way,” said Wilson.

And Western New York Girls in Sports wouldn’t be what it is without the volunteers. Tlkeeper Anders Lindegaard insists there’s no one individual to blame for the club’s slide since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.Lindegaard stayed with United under David Moyes before leaving during Louis van Gaal’s time in charge. He told the London Evhe program has gathered a vast following of community organizations eager to help out. This Saturday, over 80 volunteers from the University at Buffalo, Canisius College, Medaille College, Upstate NY Jr. Golf – First Tee of WNY, Niagara Frontier Jr. Olympic Volleyball Club, Buffalo Soccer Club, Girls on the Run, United Way, and members of the Buffalo Bills Strength and Conditioning Department attended the event to encourage the young girls.

The annual WNY Girls in Sports clinic takes place twice per year, once in the spring and once in the fall.

Claudio Ranieri visits Leicester City training ground to say goodbye to players – but did they cost him his job?

content_img

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

When asked if it had been an emotional meeting with his players, he insisted it had been "normal".

Ranieri guided the midlands club to a shock title last season .

Leicester have lost their last five league games and are yet to score in the top flight in 2017 ahead of Monday’s visit of Liverpool.

".

"After the euphoria of last season and being crowned Premier League champions all I dreamt of was staying with Leicester City, the club I love, for always.

"Sadly this was not to be. I wish to thank my wife Rosanna and all my family foo Fleetwood Town for the rest of the season.Connolly was with Lincoln City for the first half of the season, where he played 15 games. Now he will head to the League One club for the rest of the term.Connolly has only played one game for the Everton sr their never ending support during my time at Leicester.

"Mostly I have to thy targeted Dejan Lovren for their shock 3-0 defeat of champions-elect Liverpool. Two goals from Ismaila Sarr and one from Deeney, all three of which came in the second half, were enough to seal a famous victory for the Hornets, leaving Liverpool to reank Leicester City Football Club. The adventure was amazing and will live with me forever.

"Thank you to all the journalists and the media who came with us and enjoyed reporting on the greatest story in football."

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho wore a shirt bearing Ranieri’s initials as a mark of respect at his Friday press conference.

Mourinho’s relationship with the Italian has been fraught, but he followed up an Instagram tribute to Ranieri with further warm words on Friday, and described his own sacking by Chelsea in December 2015 – again just months after winning a league title – as "peanuts" by comparison.

Speaking about the initialled shirt, Mourinho said: "It is my little homage to somebody that wrote the most beautiful history of the Premier League.

"Somebody that probably would deserve the Leicester stadium to be named ‘Claudio Ranieri’ – and he is sacked. So I think Leicester made history two years in a row."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also compared the sacking Ranieri to Brexit and Donald Trump’s election as US president.

Reds boss Klopp said: "For me there have been a few strange decisions in 16/17: Brexit, Trump, Ranieri. Do I have to understand it all the time – obviously not. I have no idea why Leicester did this."

Antonio Conte also said he would struggle to accept it if it did turn out Leicester’s players effectively forced Ranieri out.

The Chelsea manager added: "It’s not rightrdiola insists the title race isn’t over after defeat at Liverpool on Sunday.Liverpool proved more clinical in front of goal, scoring twice inside the first 15 minutes to take an early stranglehold on the game. And although Bernardo Silva’s second hal that the players decide if a manager must be sacked or not. If this happened, it means that the club is poor, without power."

But Foxes caretaker boss Craig Shakespeare dismissed rumours of dressing-room unrest.

He said: "I’m not aware of any senior players going to the owners so that’s news to me. What I would say, there was a lot of frustration because of results but he hadn’t lost the dressing room."

Bills heading west early this week

content_img

The Bills will make their one and only west coast trip of the season this week to San Diego for Sunday’s game against the Chargers. What will make this trip different from those of the past is head coach Chan Gailey has his team flying out a day earlier than usual.

Gailey has his team departing Buffalo just a couple of hours after their typical Friday practice wraps up in the early afternoon. They’re due to arrive in San Diego at 5:15 pm Pacific time on Friday.

“You can go a day early and try to get acclimated a little bit or go just like your normal schedule and everyone has a comfort level with the schedule,” said Gailey. “With this it’s different because you’re doing Saturday walk through at a different place and you’re staying in a hotel for two nights. That’s different, but your body is getting acclimated to the time and hopefully that helps you.”

A lot of west coast teams typically come east early to adjust to the early kickoff times, which typically would be at 10 am Pacific time. The San Francisco 49ers went so far as to spend an entire week in the eastern time zone with back-to-back games on the east coast back in September against Cincinn about Tottenham’s appointment of Jose Mourinho.Mourinho is close to Lille management and there is talk of sports director Luis Campos moving to the Londoners to join the Portuguese. And Le 10 Sport says Mourinho could well raid LOSC in 2020 to boost ati and Philadelphia.

Buffalo’s players don’t seem to feel they’ll be all that affected by the time change.

“It’s much harder going west to east,” said Dwan Edwards. “You’re losing three hours and you’re playing at what is 10 am for you normally. Going east to west it doesn’t really matter because you’ve got three extra hours to restays Southampton pushed them hard for Saturday’s 4-0 win.The Reds emerged victorious fro play on after his release from PSG this summer.Sky Italia says talks between Buffon and Juve are ongoing as he ‘inches closer’ to the Bianconeri. Juve will first wait to offload Mattia Perin with Roma and Sevilla keen. Once Perin leaves, everythingom a tough clash with Saints at Anfield as second-half goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah (two) secured the win.Klopp said, “Fir anyway. It’s a four o’clock game for us back home basically.”

“They say getting acclimated to the time change is going to help,” said Justin Rogers. “But I don’t know if it really will.”

“I guess you’re more rested,” said Kirk Morrison. “So I suppose it’s better than going the day before.”

For most road trips the Bills usually have their Saturday practice, and after lunch they head to the airport for travel. This weekend they’ll be waking up in San Diego on Saturday and will be taken to La Jolla high school for their Saturday practice. Meetings will follow as usual in preparation for Sunday’s game.

Next season the Bills will be facing the NFC West as their interconference division with one road game at Seattle or at San Francisco, but Gailey isn’t committed to this approach just yet.

“To be honest with you this is a test run,” he said. “If it goes well knowing we have to go out there next year then we’ll evaluate it at the end of this trip and see what we thought.”

Michael Daggs, Rochester, NY, is the winner of the Verizon Wireless ‘So You Think You Know Donte’ online game that ran through the month of June and half of July.

As part of the grand prize Daggs, along with his five-year old son, met Donte Whitner and spent some time with him after practice at training camp at St. John Fisher College. Daggs also received Marshawn Lynch’s autograph and watched practice as a true VIP.

The favorite part of the day for Daggs w Chris Willock is being linked with a return to England. The Express & Star says West Brom are being linked with a move for Willock. The 21-year-old plays primarily as a winger, but can aleson has signed pro terms. The defender has already had plenty of highs in his short career – scoring against Manchester United at Old Trafford in September being a highlight.”It honestly is a dream come true. I’ve played football all my life and I caso play as a central attacking midfielder – and is currentlyas seeing his son meet Donte. “It was completely unreal. Plus it was one of the nicest days of summer, and I couldn’t ask for anything more,” said Daggs. “My son talked about it all the way home.”

Donte, who has a three-year old son, and Michael swapped stories about their sons and shared some experiences with raising a young boy.

Daggs had fun playing the online game and even more fun being the grand prize winner. “It was a great day!” exclaimed Daggs.

“This season’s ‘So You Think You Know Donte’ game received a lot of positive feedback from fans,” said Marquett Smith, the president of Verizon Wireless’s Upstate New York region. “Verizon Wireless wants Bills fans to have fun, test their knowledge i says they must accept Eden Hazard’s decision should he choose to leave.During their 0-0 draw with Leicester City, Hazard was serenaded by the Chelsea supporters throughout the afternoon. The Belgian is expected to leave for Real Madrid this summer aabout the Bills and win a host of cool Bills prizes. We appreciate the support of the Bills in helping give Verizon Wireless customers and Bills fans the opportunity to have some fun at the team’s site several times a year.”

The Verizon Wireless online contest was a series of fun and interactive questions that fans answered about Bills safety Donte Whitner. The fans that got the majority of the questions right were entered into a random drawing. Daggs was selected among thousands of entries that participated.

Landing No. 1 seed drastically improves LSU’s College Football Playoff title chances, projection model shows

jumped above to the No. 1 spot in the final Playoff rankings that were released on Sunday, which earned them a game against No. 4 rather than No. 3 . The debate on which top team would avoid facing Clemson was one of the more intriguing storylines on Sunday morning and statistics suggest that the Tigers are far more likely to win the national championship now than they were heading into championship weekend.

Stephen Oh, the principal data engineer for SportsLine, crunched the numbers and determined the simulated percentage to win the national championship based on the matchups and computer-generated statistics.

TeamSimulated national title % (Last week)Simulated national title % (This week)DifferenceLSU25%40.7%+15.7%Ohio State32%28.8%-3.2%Clemson26%27.1%+1.1%Oklahoma3%3.4%+0.4%

Why is there such a big gap between LSU and the field? The matchup vs. the Sooners is the biggest reason.

“The odds-makers agree that facing Oklahoma is a huurprised fullback Charlie Taylor is attracting transfer interest.Taylor has been linked with Leicester City this week.”I think he is a very good player,” Dyche told LancsLive. He added: “We want players to develop here regardless of contracts but whenge benefit to LSU,” Oh said. “A week ago LSU was 3/1 to win the championship so the’s enjoying his partnership with Fred. The pair were impressive for victory over Tottenham last night.McTominay told MUTV: “He’s such a nice guy and we have that connection on the pitch, and it’s just a pleasure to play alongside him. We’re getting eir implied percentage improved from 25% to 41.7%.”

That’s quite the jump considering Clemson rolled in the ACC Championship Game and Ohio State overcame a sluggish start to run away from in the Big Ten Championship Game. Of course, some of that jump was caused by LSU’s win over then-No. 4 in the SEC Championship Game. But it’s a stretch to say that the win over the Bulldogs caused that much of a move.

Another interesting nugget is that Oklahoma’s simulated chances only went up 0.4% despite and both beGunnar Solskjaer lacks leaders in his side.Fletcher was speaking after Solskjaer’s young United outfit were put to the sword by Manchester City in the first-leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at Old Trafford.Speaking after the 3-1 defeat, Fletcher sing in the mix last week. National championship: Projections favor Alabama, Clemson over Georgia, Ohio State and UCF

The College Football Playoff is getting , and it’s the third time in the playoff era that these twh former manager Jose Mourinho.Mata was sold by Mourinho when the pair were at Chelsea, only for them to be reunited at Old Trafford two years later. In the latest extract from his new book, Suddenly a Footballer, Mata recalls his reunion with Mourinho teams will be meeting in the national championship. With No. 1 besting No. 4 and No. 2 handling No. 3  in the semifinals, these two programs are head and shoulders above everyone else right now.

But what would it look like if this season’s national championship, played on Monday, Jan. 7, was different? What if , or — the three teams that at least had an argument to make the final four — wound up in the title game against either the Crimson Tide or Tigers?

According to our simulations from SportsLine data analyst Stephen Oh, the upcoming national championship would still go chalk if it involved either Alabama or Clemson. Below is a table for all six possible matchups with accompanying win percentages and average scores. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to suspend a little disbelief here because we’re going straight to the title game; we’re not recreating the entire playoff field. These are numbers in a vacuum and should treated as such.

As you can see, Alabama would still be sizable favorites against the three different opponents. Then again, Alabama would be a double-digit favorite against most teams in (for the record, Las Vegas books have the Tide as a 6.5-point favorite against the Tigers). Either way, Alabama would be projected to win at least 81 percent of the time in all three matchups with average scores ranging from 13 points against Georgia — the Tide needed a thrilling comeback to beat the Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game 35-28 — to 20 points against UCF.

Conversely, the Clemson projections run a little closer, which is to be expected. A Clemson-Georgia matchup would be the closest of all with an average point differential of only a field goal. However, a matchup with Ohio State or UCF still projects to end in single digits with the Tigers never winning more than 67 percent of the time.

These are simulations, though, and Clemson just easily covered against Notre Dame, while Oklahoma kicked down the back door in its semifinal against Alabama. It would certainly be fun to get some different matchups in the championship game down the road, and if college football eventually expands to an eight-team playoff, maybe that’ll happen.

Army vs. Navy Game 2018 score: Black Knights hold off Midshipmen for third straight victory

content_img

Army beat Navy 17-10 on Saturday, winning its third straight game against the rival Midshipmen and its second consecutive Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy in the process. Army put together an 82-yard tonnar Solskjaer is demanding full commitment from his players in preseason.Solskjaer and his backroom team have drawn up a hard-line pre-season diary to ensure there is no repeat of the fitness issues which were such a problem last term. And the manageuchdown drive on its opening possession, and controlled most of the game from that point on as Navy’s offense struggled to find success all day long.

The story of this game, ultimately, was turnovers. Army didn’t turn the ball over once, while Navy turned it over four times. While two first-half interceptions kept Navy at bay, it was two second-half fumbles that sunk the Midshipmen for good.

Navy earned a defensive stop on fourth down at midfield and proceeded to put together its best drive of the game and getting into the red zone. Unfortunately, a fumble by Garret Lewis inside the Army 5-yard line ended the Navy threat and effectively finished the game. Navy would get a defensive stop afterward and get the ball back in Army territory, and quickly capitalized with a touchdown drive to cut Army’s lead to 10-7. The Navy defense came through yet again on the next possession, forcing an Army punt, but their next offensive possession didn’t go nearly as well. Zach Abey was stripped of the ball while dropping back on 4th-and-12, and Army recovered the fumble. It was Abey’s third turnover of the day as he was responsible for both interceptions in the first half.

Army QB Kell Hopkins, on the other hand, had a terrific day. Hopkins rushed for 83 yards and scored both of Army’s touchdowns. He also helped Army convert some critical third downs during the game with his arm, as he completed 4 of 9 passes for 61 yards. Hopkins’ play on offense and the Army defense forcing fou Vardy.Elder left the King Power Stadium in the summer to sign a three-year contract with the Tigers.Elder reckons that both Bowen and Vardy possess similar qualities which makes them both clinical in front of goal.”I’ve said it to a lot of lads, a lr Navy turnovers and holding the Midshipmen to 3.85 yards per play gave the Knights their third straight win over Navy, and gave Army its second consecutive 10-win season. Virginia Tech vs. West Virginia prediction, pick, odds, watch live stream, TV channel

content_img

For years, the Black Diamond Trophy was awarded to the winner of and , border rivals and bitter conference rivals during their days in the Big East. The two squads haven’t played since 2005, and an offseason full of smack talk has added to the hype for this Sunday night showdown at FedEx Field in Landover, Md..

Both teams enter 2017 with e’s unsure of his next move. While his father has pushed for a switch to Napoli, James is said to be eager to hear from Manchester United before making a final decision. In Brazil for the Copa America, the Colombia captain said: “I do not know, I have new starting quarterbacks — redshirt freshman for Tech, former quarterback for the Mountaineers — and VT comes into it after winning 10 games and finishing in the top 25 a year ago, starting this season in the preseason poll. Dana Holgorsen and Justin Fuente both ascended the coaching ranks as well-respected offensive coordinators, and this game is expected to be very informative in terms of how each team has handled the turnover and whether either squad is primed to make a run at the favorites in their respective conferences.

Storylines

: Hokie fans seemed to know the names of all the offensive staff members prior to Justin Fuente’s arrival — and not for good reasons. The slide from winning ACC Coastal Division and cor Mikel Arteta admits that he needs to get into the Champions League to sign better players. The Gunners are among several teams that are trying to find a route into the top four in the Premier League.Given they are out of theback Juan Miranda.RAC1 says Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici is in Barcelona today for negotiations over Miranda.Juve have offered Daniele Rugani as part of the deal. However, Olympique Marseille remain ahead of the Bianconeri as they want to tak Europa League, the leagunference titles to fighting for bowl eligibility was defined by an offense that could never get on the same page and produce consistently across an entire season. Logan Thomas and Michael Brewer each had games — and moments in games — where everything was clicking. Bud Foster’s Lunch Pail Defense was complemented by an offense that could go toe-to-toe with anyone in the country. But there were also moments, like this one against in 2014, that haunt Virginia Tech fans to this day.

Fuente brought a strong offensive reputation with him and quickly put his system in with a first-year starter in , who meshed well with some proven pieces already on the roster (, to name a few) and went on to break or tie 10 offensive school records on the way to a Coastal Division title and the program’s first 10-win season since 2011. The defense still looks loaded, so the main intrigue is whether Fuente’s instant offensive impact has another act with a new cast in 2017.

: Are the Mountaineers a legit top-25 team? Holgorsen has expressed a lot of confidence in Grier, who did go 6-0 as Florida’s starter before his PED suspension, but WVU a handful of key contributors on both lines and two of its top receiving targets. The running back position is loaded, and Tony Gibson has done a great job with the defense in recent years, but like Virginia Tech, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered early to back up hype that seems to be more residual from last year’s 10-win season (the program’s best finish since joining the Big 12) than a projection of performance in 2017.

The good news for West Virginia is that this is nothing new. Entering his seventh season, Holgorsen has moved from being a hot name to temporarily flirting with the hot seat and now seems firmly entrenched with his system and people in place. This is a program where a postseason appearance is the floor and every few years they’ll creep up and challenge for the Big 12 title. These transition years after the peak seasons are always going to be interesting to track because West Virginia could very well be a top-25 team, but in a tough Big 12, that can only be determined by they how they perform against comparable foes from other power conferences, like Virginia Tech.

Prediction

FedEx Field has been a house of horrors for Virginia Tech, but I think they’ll exorcise some demons in a game that should be much lower scoring than you’d think based on the offensive reputation of both coaches. Bud Foster has been scouting the one-back attack of WVU all summer and while I’m sure Holgo will have some wrinkles that can catch the Lunch Pail D off guard I favor the Hokies in that matchup against a first-time starter under center. It’s going to be a rock fight that probably ends on a field goal, so I’m taking the underdog but think Virginia Tech ultimately wins straight up.

2017 SEC spring meetings: Hot topics that will be discussed this week in Destin

content_img

DESTIN, Fla. — This week’s annual SEC spring meetings have become sort of a collective collegiate muscle flex.

It wasn’t just conference groupthink. The league was the best because it cared the most — and vice versa. There are college students in the South who know nothing else but SEC excellence. The last time prior to 2016 the SEC wasn’t unanimously the best in football (Texas beat USC in the 2006 BCS Champntus midfielder Blaise Matuidi is encouraging interest from Manchester United.Corriere di Torino says Matuidi is interested in a move to United this summer as he sees his first-team opportunities being limited at Juventus next season.Juve have broughionship Game), they were in third grade.

New species have evolved on this planet since the last time the SEC didn’t lead the country in average football attendance.

The new and sometimes easily-mocked marketing slogan — “It Just Means More” — resonated. It described the Southeastern Conference’s fervor perfectly.

Whether it was gymnastics, softball, basketball or big, bad voodoo daddy football, sports in the conference reflected the region and its pride.

Let’s just say there is some work to be done this week. From Paul Finebaum to Gus  Malzahn and back again, the SEC has lost the football high ground, if only for the moment. In the conference where it means more, the SEC is no longer No. 1 in football.

Heck, it may not even have been No. 2 at the end of last season. The ACC was/is No. 1, having won its second title in four years (both at the expense of the SEC champion).

Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh have forced the Big Ten to a new level. Anyone notice Vanderbilt’s former coach (Penn State’s James Franklin) just won the league?

Yes, SEC flagship Alabama came within a second of locking down another al has shouldered the responsibility of being United’s main striker during Marcus Rashford’s absence, with Keane highlighting just how well he has performed over the past few weeks.”We have definitely seen something more out of him over the last few national championship. But that 35-31 loss to Clemson only seemed to rubber-stamp what qualified as a down year.

Each one of the other 13 SEC programs lost at least four games for the first time in league history. Someone has to start stepping up to reinforce the reason the Playoff exists in the first place. Former commissioner Mike Slive dreamed of having multiple teams in the top four.

That dream seems so long ago.

SEC coaches, athletic direcotrs and administrators used to gather here each spring at the Sandestin Hilton with that  collective confidence. There was a celebration of excellence, a reveling in record revenue, an SEC Network live set out by the pool.

None of that has gone away or will anytime soon. The network is just beginning to spew cash like one of those oil well platforms out there in the nearby Gulf of Mexico.

But something’s missing this week, and the SEC knows it. The conference has a chip on its shoulder.

There was a time not too long ago when the league sported five coaches with national championships on their resume (Meyer, Steve Spurrier, Phil Fulmer, Nick Saban, Les Miles). This year, they’ve got five who are entering their first (LSU’s Ed Orgeron), second (Missouri’s Barry Odom, South Carolina’s Will Muschamp, Georgia’s Kirby Smart) or third (Florida’s Jim McElwain) season at their current schools.

The league’s overall quarterbacking must get better. Ole Miss won’t be going bowling and faces possible probation.  Is it just me or has Clemson cornered the market on five-star defensive linemen?

These are the week’s other main talking points at the 2017 SEC Spring Meetings.

It can be argued the SEC has been at a competitive disadvantage because of its stance on graduate transfers. Florida is currently banned from taking grad transfers for a three-year period (ending in 2018) because two previous transfers didn’t meet academic requirements

Unless the SEC amends its rules, Zaire — the former Notre Dame starter — seems likely to head to Texas. Zaire doesn’t seem to be a game changer. If he fit that bill, he would have beaten out Deshone Kizer last season. But at Texas or Florida, he would at least be quality depth.

Tom Herman at Texas has doggedly pursued Zaire citing injury concerns about Shane Buechele and Sam Ehlinger. Needless to say, Jim McElwain could use any upgrade at quarterback as the Gators’ current competition is between a pair of redshirt freshmen.  Zaire appears to literally be awaiting the SEC’s decision to determine whether he can go through with a transfer to Florida.

It’s coming … everywhere. That would be booze sold to the general public in stadiums. It’s revenue. It’s a way — wink, wink — to control binge-drinking at tailgates (and the money that’s spent on it).

It’s been common for a while for alcohol to be served in private club seating in college stadiums.

Texas, with its 100,000-seat stadium, now serves alcohol to the public. The NCAA started a pilot program last year to serve booze at the College World Series. (What could go wrong? College students, fake IDs, foul balls reigning destruction from above.)

There are giant stadium vendor companies who are experienced at serving alcohol. But there seems to be something different — perhaps dangerous? — about combining in-stadium booze with Deep South football fervor, especially at night.

Tiger Stadium on a Bud Light rush? Yikes.

There will be something Alabama’s coach will go off on this week. He seems to store up all his angst for this time of year after the draft, after passage of NCAA legislation, and for whatever perceived threat to the empire exists.

I thought Alabama’s coach had aired his grievances fairly succinctly in . If I had to guess, Saban will focus on staff sizes, .

First of all, dismiss anything Pat Dye says because, well, he’s Pat Dye. The former Auburn coach has been out of coaching for a quarter century and has no real say in the situation. He does like to hear himself talk, though.

But it seems the idea of has at least become a conversatiin this week.Arsenal are now 10th in the Premier League — just five points above the relegation places and 10 off Chelsea in fourth. The match was interim head coach Freddie Ljungberg’s first game in charge at the Emirates Stadium and he saw his teon piece. It would supposedly balance out what has become an imbalanced SEC.

The East hasn’t won a conference title since 2008. In fact, the East champ has been within two touchdowns once in the title game since that year.

So, yeah, maybe move Missouri to the West for the “better” geographic fit. I’m sure Saban and Malzahn would absolutely love the possibility of playing twice a year. Hey, and maybe in back-to-back games!

A new home for the SEC Baseball Tournament. Stronger nonconference schedules for basketball. A review of collaborative replay. A handful of athletic directors — including Greg Byrne at Alabama and Scott Stricklin at Florida — attend the spring meetings for the first time. Student-athlete time demands. College football staff sizes.

WATCH: Arkansas’ Bret Bielema has hot takes on eggnog during the holidays

Orange juice isn’t just for breakfast anymore, and eggnog isn’t just for the holiday season — at least according to Bret Bielema. The Arkansas coach went on an inspired rant about eggnog and when/where it’s acceptable. In short, Ber United star Dimitar Berbatov has revealed his way of celebrating his first league title win.The Bulgarian claimed the honor at the end of the 2008-2009 season, when United won their third successive Premier League trophy. And he revealed that he coielema is of the “do you” belief in which eggnog is drinkable whenever, wherever.

So don’t be surprised if Bielema is drinking something other than Gatorade in those little cups on the sideline during the Belk Bowl on Dec. 29 against Virginia Tech.
