How Man City can get back on track and what Arsenal will do to stop it

data-js=”article-bdion Ighalo offers them something different.Ighalo could start tonight at Europa League opponents Club Brugge.“Well for me Odion is a different type of striker for us,” Solskjaer told reporters in Belgium.“He’s a box striker, he’s a goalscorer. Wody” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

. A mid-press is the most likely strategy and this will leave space for City to hit direct passes in behind, something that the forwards must constantly look for. If Arsenal press high it could lead to scoring chances for City, as defenders pass their way out from the back to reach an exposed, vulnerable Gunners midfield.

Arsenal will almost certainly attempt to the block the middle of the pitch to force City’s play wide. City must make the pitch as wide possible to allow forward passes to be played through central areas, having the wingers hug the touchlines to stretch the space between defending midfielders or defenders. This frees up space between bodies to fire the ball to advanced players quickly through the middle.

The wingers must ensure they stay wide to stretch the pitch and create these passing lanes, taking care not to drift inside too early or run into dead ends. Sterling was guilty of doing this against Newcastle.

4-1-2-1-2 and how it caters for Mesut Ozil

Arsenal are great in possession but lack a killer final ball. Mesut Ozil is one of the best in Europe at making that pass but offers nothing defensively. To cater for Ozil, Emery can play three defensive-minded midfielders to provide a barrier in a 4-4-2 diamond, a formation Arsenal have used in their previous two Premier League matches.

All three of Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka can carry the ball aam.The midfielder revealed that Bruce pinpointed West Ham’s tendency to play a high line and deployed Shelvey to pick holes in their defence.Shelvey told NUFC TV: “We know that Pellegrini’s teams like to play a high line.”The gaffer spoke about it bend play neat forward passes through the centre of the park at Premier League level – all of Arsenal’s players are good at this – the problem is finding that magic end product in the final third.

Man City are the home team and, simply, better than Arsenal. For this reason Emery will almost certainly start without Ozil in a more defensive shape.

Arsenal built for the counter-attack

Newcastle pulled off a shock win over Man City by blocking passing lanes and defending resiliently in a 5-4-1. The wide midfielders doubled up on City’s wingers in wide areas to make sure defenders were never outnumbered by rival attackers, with Ayoze Perez darting forward during attacks to a more central position beside the striker, overlapped by the right back.

Arsenal could attempt to frustrate City in a 3-4-3 shape with the forwards dropping into midfield when out of possession just as Newcastle did. If they can keep City quiet for the majority of the game, eventually cracks will appear to make counter-attacks a possibility.

Before they can race up the pitch, Arsenal need to ensure that they frustrate City with their defensive shape. The 3-4-3 can easily become a 5-4-1 with Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang droppingright to turn things around. The Argentine’s five-year stint at Spurs came to an end on Tuesday after a poor start to the Premier League season. But after leading the club to their first Champions League final in June, the THST believes Pochettino didn to a left midfield position (LM), supported by the left-back Sead Kolasinac (LB). The idea is to push play wide, then backwards and repeat until City give the ball away.

The pace of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, Alex Iwobi and Alexandre Lacazette will cause big problems if Man City are caught with too many players ahead of the ball. Employing a slightly deeper press suits their physical attributes – expect a mid-press or low block to ensure City leave space in behind their defensive line to suit pacy strikers.

Dealing with injuries

Laurent Koscielny may not be able to play due to a jaw injury. Sokratis, Bellerin and Holding are all definitely out while Maitland-Niles is a doubt – Arsenal don’t have (m)any defenders left and unless they wish to play Xhaka at centre-back again, will have to field a weakened back four instead of a three simply due to numbers available.

Man City’s forwards will be keen to test any vulnerability at the back, particularly Kolasinac’s tendency to drift forward and leave space vacant behind. Riyad Mahrez has often caused problems for Arsenal in the past and may well start on the right wing to test this theory, with Sterling running at whoever has to fill in at right-back.

The Arsenal centre-backs must watch for City’s trademark move in particular; a winger gets to the line and fakes to cross low into the box, before cutting the pass back to the penalty spot, or edge of the box for a waiting forward to slot past a bamboozled goalkeeper.

Jose Mourinho admits ‘media manhunt’ is getting him down

data-js=”article-body” data-insert-mobile-adslot>

Mourinho, who  has until 6pm on Wednesday to respond to the charge, would have been free to sit in the dugout regardless at Stamford Bridge, where he has vowed not to “celebrate like crazy” if United score or win ght.Barcelona star Leo Messi won a sixth Ballon d’Or title at the Paris ceremony. But Onana told TMW: “Leo is the best in the world but I think Mané deserved the award too. “He and (Mohamed) Salah did very well last year and this must be recognised eout of respect to his former club’s fans.

Mourinho is also concected to blood James into his starting XI once the full-back has been brought up to full fitness.Chelsea shared a video of 19-year-old James dropping his crutches to the floor, captioning it “drop those”.The player himself then shared a photo of him trned that the persistent talk about his future is undermining the team and suggested the dismal first-half showing against Newcastle, when United trailed 2-0 after 10 minutes before recovering to win, was partly down to players waking up to reports that the manager was about to be sacked.

“Some of the players looked depressed in the first half with the result, and with the pre-match, because the pre-match was difficult for them,” Mourinho said. “We didn’t sleep in the hotel, everyone stayed at his own house, and I think the players when they woke up – because they read on social media – the pre-match was not easy for them.”

Nonetheless, Mourinho has been no stranger to criticising his own team and again appeared to damn his players with faint praise when asked why they have been unable to replicate the second-half performance against Newcastle over 90 minutes. “We try,” he said. “The key is for the players to be able to do it.”

Mourinho believes United could be facing the champions in waiting at Stamford Bridge this lunchtime if Eden Hazard can maintain his blistering form. Hazard said this week that he would like to play for Mourinho again but, as much as the Portuguese would love to have him at Old Trafford, he said Chelsea would never sell to them.

“I would love to have him in Manchester United but … Chelsea is led by intelligent and experienced people and they would neicated Manchester City are already thinking about next season.City look unlikely to catch Liverpool in the Premier League this season, with Jurgen Klopp’s side having a 14 point lead and game in hand.”No. It’s unrealistic to think about that,” Guardiver sell Eden to Man United,” he said.

“History says that when Eden Hazard is the best player of the Premier League, Chelsea is the champion. It happened with me [in 2014-15] and Antonio [Conte, in 2016-17], and this season he is the best player until now and Chelsea is top of the league because he is the kind who can make a huge difference.”

PM Practice – August 1, 2008

Yes but the doctor said it had nothing to do with the injury. It was just a bone bruise and he said the injury that I did have, it didn’t have to do anything with that.

It was great for the MRIs to come back negative. It puts your mind at ease and to just come out here and move forward.

You can’t just worry about the injuries. You have to go out there and do your job. You just have to let that go and just play ball.lov is being linked with Chelsea and Crystal Palace this week.Christian Emile said on Nobel Arustamyan’s Youtube channel: “First of all, it depends on CSKA. Do they want to sell him? We must know the position of CSKA, because we respect the club. Thi Like some of the guys said when I first came back, just play and don’t worry about the ankle. That’s what I’m trying to do.

Yes, it’s a bone bruise and it didn’t have anything to do with the injury. They just said it’s a little bone bruise. They said it could have been the same thing on the other leg so just don’t worry about the United midfielder Paul Pogba has dropped a hint he will be soon back in action.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Pogba would miss out on United’s game with Liverpool as he failed to recover in time from a foot injury.Pogba took to Instagram workininjury and keep going.

Going in there yesterday I thought it was something to do with the ankle, I’m not going to lie. Fortunately it was just a bone bruise so I feel good.  I am just trying to move forward and am trying to help this team.

I was kind of nervous. It’s just getting back out there when something like this happens. You know you had the injury before but luckily it was just a bone bruise and hopefully the pain will go away in a couple of days.

No, actualls delighted hearing that Barcelona are keen to buy him back. The Spain international is the subject of a formal €35m offer from Barca this week. And Olmo has welcomed the development, telling L’Esportiu, “It makes me happy that the rumours have becomy it felt great. A lot of people asked me back home how I felt. I haven’t even been thinking about it. I’m just coming out here and playing. I’m lucky I just had a little pain with the bone bruise and I’ll just keep moving.

Army vs. Navy Game: Orlando aiming to serve as host city for annual college football rivalry

The annual meeting between and is one of ‘s finest traditions, and while the game has mid-Atlantic and northeastern roots with the two academies, there is hope that “America’s Game” will Juventus attacker Douglas Costa expects a tougher battle to win the Scudetto next season.Under new coach Maurizio Sarri, Juve are going for nine in a row.“Each year Serie A gets more difficult,” he said.“With Antonio Conte at Inter and Carlo Ancelotti at Napoli, next season will be even tougher, but we’ll do our best to improve too, especially in the Champions League, which is our objective.”make its way down the coast for a more tropical location in the future.

Florida Citrus Sports, the organization responsible for hosting the Camping World Kickoff Classic, the Camping World Bowl and the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, has been aggressive in securing high-profile neutral-site matchups since the completion of the renovations to Camping World Stadium in 2015. Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan said earlier this month that the group hopes to be included in the next round of bidding when the two schools look to secure its host sites for 2023-28.

“When you think of events, I love that Orlando can have the opportunity to be a part of something that’s special,” . “The Army-Navy game would be an experience for people in Central Florida and the people who have traditionally attended the game in Philadelphia or Baltimore.”

According to Hogan, Orlando was one of the cities included in the last bidding window for Army-Navy but scheduling conflicts prevented their ability to contend for the game. The Orlando area is already a hotbed for football during the month of December, not to mention the tourism advantages of planning a weekend getaway in Florida as opposed to somewhere further north.

“It drew my eyes to that’s something now based on the calendar and how it fits with tourism here in this community, that you’ve got to circle hard and be aggressive to go pursue and I think we will,” Hogan said.

In total, there have been 17 different venues in six different states that have hosted the Army-Navy game throuhis season.James has scored three goals in his first four appearances for United, and has impressed with his pace and his direct play.”I don’t think they [United] expected what they have got from Daniel James so early on in his Manchester United careghout its history, but the game hhance. For the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United, Tomori was one of three Chelsea Academy graduates who started the game, alongside Mason Mount and two-goal Tammy Abraham, while Billy Gilmour also made his first appearance late on as a substitute.”I’m heas never made its way to the southeastern United States. They’ve played in Chicago’s Soldier Field and even in California at the Rose Bowl, but on the east coast, the most-southern location has been Landover, Maryland.

College Football Power Rankings: Alabama keeps rolling along as five new teams enter the fray

content_img

Suddenly, we’re one-third of the way through the 2018 college football season. What do we know for sure already? Plenty, we think. Let’s take a quick look.

Alabama is so dominant that Nick Saban is pleading with the press not to compliment his team so much: “I would sort of appreciate it if you would … sort of look atRonaldinho and Deco during his time at the club.He played just 36 games during his four-year spell with the club, though was part of Pep Guardiola’s squad during the 2008/09 campaign before going on loan to Stuttgart, Birmingham City and Wolfsburg.Ho some of the things we didn’t do well,” he said after a 22-point win over Texas A&M.

Kentucky is worth watching. The Wildcats make their Power Rankings debut after a 28-7 win over Mississippi State. Give me Benny Snell Jr.’s ability and personality anytime. It is one of five new entries in this week’s top 25 of the Power Rankings.

All is not lost in the Pac-12. Stanford is the conference’s top team, solidly in the top 10 and has a quarterback in K.J. Costello to go along with quick-strike tailback Bryce Love.

Notre Dame has introduced itself as more than a fringe Playoff contender because of a dynamic quarterback named Ian Book. What is it about Brian Kelly not finding the right No. 1 guy at the beginning of the season? ()

The CFP Selection Committee already has something to think about. Let’s say it’s a choice between Oklahoma and … anybody. The Sooners fell into the trap of chasing Army’s option all over the field. It almost cost the Sooners in a 28-21 overtime win that avoided one of college football’s biggest upsets in years.

We are set up for our first Big Ten mega-matchup of the season: Ohio State at Penn State. The winner has the inside track in the Big Ten East … and a playoff berth.

Yup, even one-third of the way into the season.

Let’s take a look at the latest Power Rankings.

1 For the first time this season, Bama failed to score 50 points. Texas A&M had the audacity to hang around until the second quarter. Anybody out there in Bama Nation panicking? Didn’t think so. You may have missed the fact Alabama will be a double-digit favorite against every remaining opponent. –11-2 2 It never rains in Tiger Stadium, but sometimes things don’t go as planned. Louisiana Tech made a surprising run after being down 24-0. LSU committed its first turnover of the season (Joe Burrow interception) and Ed Orgeron grumbled. “Obviously, we’re not happy,” Coach O said of a 17-point win over the Bulldogs. Up next: An interesting SEC West battle with Ole Miss. –15-0 3 The Return of Urban Meyer looked a lot like Ryan Day never left. The Buckeyes slammed Tulane in a tune-up for a season-defining trip to Penn State. Just don’t let me hear anything about “redemption” for the sitting coach. The Athletic reported Saturday a plan is forming to make Day the coach-in-waiting. 113-1 4 Trevor Lawrence seems to have become the starting quarterback without starting. That was the takeaway from a four-touchdown win over Georgia Tech. Lawrence came off the bench to complete 13 of 18 for 173 yards. But you can’t just put Kelly Bryant on the bench … can you? 114-1 5 The Dawgs are vulnerable to the run! That’s one way of looking at it after a two-touchdown win at Missouri. Here’s another: Georgia already has four non-offensive touchdowns this season. –12-2 6 The Tigers don’t play a true road game until Oct. 6 at Mississippi State. They’d better take care of business. An unremarkable win over an unremarkable team (34-3 over Arkansas) keeps the Tigers in the SEC West hunt. 19-4 7 The Cardinal may have just become the Pac-12’s best playoff hope. A stunning comeback at Oregon made it so. After Justin Herbert missed on only two throws in regulation, the Stanford D forced him into five incompletions in overtime. 24-8 8 Looks like Brian Kelly has himself a quarterback. Ian Book threw for 325 yards in a rout of Wake Forest. Irish are suddenly back in the playoff race with Stanford coming up. –11-2 9 Did OU really run only 40 plays? Did Army almost beat its first top five team in 55 years? Yes to both. The Sooners just weren’t ready for the Black Knights’ clock-eating option. That’s why OU gets nicked here moving down three spots. 312-2 10 In a somewhat easy win over Kansas State, Bill Snyder may have provided the quote of the day: “I can’t coach a team that can’t get six inches on a play.” Sure the Wildcats failed in a first-half, fourth-down gamble, but that wasn’t the main reason the Mountaineers dominated 35-6. –5-der Paul Pogba this summer.Tuttosport says Juventus are determined to land a reunion with the player they sold to United for £89milSG star Neymar.Jesus scored a hat trick against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League yesterday. His goals got the Blues all three points in the fixture. And it means he is the fastest Brazilian to reach 10 Champions League goals, surpassing the mark slion back in 2016. Pogba has played a bit-part role at United this season due to troubles with injury but remains one 7 11 Hey, here’s a new one. Jake Browning was steady in a 27-20 win over Arizona State. Browning became the second Huskies quarterback in history to top 10,000 career passing yards in a 27-20 win over Arizona State. Linebacker Ben Burr-Kiven had 20 tackles. –8-5 12 I’ll say it again: The Knights can play with anyone in the country. The offense under McKenzie Milton is explosive. FAU couldn’t keep up in a 56-36 loss. The Knights are one of nine teams to average at least 50 points this season. Power Five chance this week with Pittsburgh coming in. 210-3 13 Goodness, that was a boat race in the second half Friday at Illinois — 32 total plays on six possessions produced 291 yards and six touchdowns. Nice message to send the Buckeyes. 211-2 14 The N’Kosi Perry era may have begun. The celebrated redshirt freshman threw for 224 yards in place of Malik Rosier. Miami beat FIU, and now Mark Richt says he has a decision to make at quarterback before Thursday’s game with North Carolina. 46-7 15 Go ahead and celebrate, Kentucky. The Wildcats are 2-0 in the SEC for the first time since 1977. A shutdown of Mississippi State sends a message for athletic directors everywhere: Patience. Mark Stoops may be turning the corner in Year 6. NR8-5 16 All that nostalgia from 1997? Forget it. Any similarity between Nebraska and its last national championship is an LSD-induced flashback. Michigan sent the Huskers to their first 0-3 start since 1945. 39-4 17 What would you expect of the Badgers after the BYU bummer? A workmanlike 28-17 win at Iowa seemed about right. Alex Hornibrook rebounded nicely completing 17 of 22 for 205 yards and three touchdowns. The Badgers continue to control their destiny in the Big Ten West. 610-4 18 Are the Longhorns back? Yes! Back in the polls, at least. Tom Herman’s biggest win since becoming Texas coach (over TCU) will have reverberations around the Big 12. One of them: The Texas-Oklahoma game on Oct. 6 just became a lot sexier. NR8-5 19 The Ducks may never forget this one. Up 24-7 at home, they watched Stanford methodically claw back to win in overtime 38-31. Bad clock management and questionable play calling allowed Stanford to tie it in regulation. 312-2 20 A tune-up win against McNeese State went about as expected. A visit to Washington is next. Kalani Sitake got an opportunity to empty the bench a bit on Saturday. NR7-6 21 The rain, the Wildcats and Benny Snell. In less-than-ideal conditions the Bulldogs were exposed at Kentucky. Snell, the SEC’s leading rusher, ran for four touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter, to seal the upset. 46-7 22 Bye. Sorry, you don’t play, you’re at the mercy of being moved around Buffaloes. Down two spots this week. CU hosts UCLA on Friday. 25-7 23 As much as the world likes to unload on Kliff Kingsbury’s defensive sensibilities, the win at Oklahoma State was one of the biggest of his career. The Cowboys were shut out in the second half at home in a 24-point loss. The Red Raiders (3-1) are undefeated under freshman QB Anthony Bowman. Their only loss is to Ole Miss. NR4-8 24 Pick up the pieces and get ready for Kansas. The 24-point loss to Texas Tech was Mike Gundy’s worst (by margin) since the 2016 Sugar Bowl loss to Ole Miss. 118-5 25 The Aztecs have one of the most physical teams in the nation. Without its starting quarterback and after blowing a two-touchdown lead at home, SDSU beat a stubborn Eastern Michigan in overtime. NR10-3

Out: Virginia Tech, TCU, Texas A&M, Arizona State, Boise State

Patterson is committed to Robinson for now but is clearly trying to build some depth and experience at a position that has very little of both.

“Both of them will play in the first game but Shawn will be the starter,” Patterson said. “Mike will have a chance to get his reps.”

TCU was picked to finish third in the Big 12 at media days last month behind Oklahoma and West Virginia, and did receive onis side to try and defend their Champions League title. The Reds are the reigning champions in Europe, given their 2-0 win over Tottenham in last year’s final. But now they have to do it all again as they received their draw for the group stages of thee first place vote to win the Big 12 title. College Football Player of the Week: Stanford RB Christian McCaffery

content_img

It must be nice to have a player like Christian McCaffery on your team. Stanford lists him as a running back, but he does so much more than that for the Cardinal, and during Saturday night’s 35-22 win over rival Cal, all of McCaffery’s talents were on display.

McCaffery finished the game with 389 all-purpose yards (nearly a quarter-mile of yardage) for Stanford. He carried the ball 29 times for 192 yards, caught a 49-yard touchdown pass, and also had a 98-yard kick return for a touchdown in the final minute of the first half that just seemed to suck the ernandes.Sky Sports says the two clubs were as much as £10million apart in their valuations of the midfielder last week, with United only willing to pay £42m after initially agreeing on a £55m deal. But United are expected to continue their pursuitair out of the Golden Bears.

McCaffery’s performance was a key factor in Stanford’s win, and the victory wrapped up a Pac-12 North division title for the Cardinal, but this display was nothing new for McCaffery.

Saturday night was more of an encore than anything else, as McCaffery leads the nation in all-purpose yardage, averaging 255.2 yards per game. That’s nearly 50 yards per game more than his closest competition, San Jose State’s Tyler Ervin (206.7 yards per game) and a full 77 more yards per game than the guy in third, Texas Tech’s Jakeem Grant (178.2 ypg).

With the Heisman ranage the fitness of Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the final weeks of the season.Sarri acknowledges how integral Loftus-Cheek’s fitness is to his good form, and he hopes he will not require surgery this summer on his troublesome back.He said, “We have to conace seemingly wide-open right now, you have to imagine that the Stanford back has as good a chance of anybody to wind up in has defended Jose Mourinho over his decision at Chelsea to let Kevin de Bruyne and Mohamed Salah leave. Now Tottenham manager, Mourinho was in charge at Stamford Bridge when Liverpool striker Salah left, along with Manchester City star De Bruyne. But New York as a finalist this year.

Ex-Arizona, Texas QB Connor Brewer says he’ll transfer to Virginia

content_img

The quarterback transfer carousel continues to spin in Charlottesville.

“He does not stick his nose into football. He wants to make sure the student-athletes are taken care of, and that’s the bottom line.”
